Roomie, that's awesome. What I would say about the mall is to have fun with architecture. Malls are garish, malls are vibrant; they're just giant advertisements littered with signs. I'm a little worried you'll play it safe with the brick/glass combo, as you can have a TON of fun with the forms. Outdoor escalators, elevator banks, balconies, swooping walkways... A mall like this would use dynamic forms. I'd look up the Selfridge's in Birmingham by Future Systems as a cool addition to a mall; it'd be similar to a lot of Natelox's Gehry-inspired work in terms of form and execution and would definitely add some dynamics. Dave, I know you can take this far.

I love the overall look of it and I think this is really exciting. The brick and wood work perfectly.

does anyone here have an object i need. its the orange-ish bench as the ones in the shetler but as four???

@roomie: is it LaQua? anyway nice work! I can't imagine taking the time to make something like that.

something i probably should know, how do you stack fences? when I try in codex it just counts all the fences as one object so it automatically goes up to the height of the first one.

Ed: its done simply by building a sloped wall on square A and cloning it over a bush or something similar ona flat square.

Robbie: Both my local malls are fairly boring.

I'll try and be a bit more jazzy with the Entertainment center side of the mall.

J K: thanks very much. I hope to improve it a lot anyway.

Cocoa: The idea of Thunder Dolphin at Laqua has been added to a more british style Mall in this case. Fences are stacked by building a bush under a fence and then dragging the fence over the bush in the object editor.

That's awesome, Highroll3r. Your foliage is much better now and I love the architecture. The screen has a very realistic atmosphere.

i agree with musicman. it's a very nice realisation of thunder dolphin, but it's somewhat unattractive.

I think it's been over-codexed to the point where it's lost it's LL charm.
  • posix%s's Photo
Feels like that goes without saying, but still well observed.

Haha fair enough Louis. The thing is it’s impossible to achieve what I want without Codex. The same could be said about Loopy's World Of Tomorrow. Without Codex the areas in that would simply be impossible.
However that is kind of the point in this. TTA is a showcase of a classic LL park and Portal is inherently me. With this I'm trying to see what is actually possible in LL with codex. It certainly won't be classic LL by any means. But that's not really the point.

However this is a learning experience and I don't expect it to be perfect or even beautiful on the first pass. I will be asking for opinions on things and will hopefully have thoughts from Robbie, Loopy and co while I proceed.

I have reworked a lot of the things in this screen already and have added a lot more besides.

i don't like them. it doesn't look like you thought about it. the layout pretty much makes no sense.

Yeah, I'm not saying don't use codex. codex is a brilliant tool, but here, for me, there is the use of codex where it isn't needed. objects being used for no real purpose, well it seems like that, for example the barrels on the side of the walls, what purpose do they have? the big '9'. what reason is it there for except for the coaster to go through, etc.

it doesnt have to be classic LL to have LL charm, plenty of codexed parks (loopy's WoT included) still keep the LL charm, it's just this doesn't seem to have any.

^^well I defenitily thougt some parts out pretty good,
the cobra roll and loop over the water, the overlapping corkscrew is something I just needed to add.
and most inbetween things were just transitions inbetween those things actually, though I tried to make it look as flowing as possible.
  • J K%s's Photo
Chorkiel I don't like it that much and the picture you've created doesn't do the layout justice at all. Why did you rotate the picture of the full layout to the side? It looks so much harder to view when that's the only picture we're interested in.
  • highroll3r%s's Photo
looks like the pacing of the train would be to fast for those corkscrews!!! im not a fan of it really CK, imo it doesnt look realistic and i dont know why there brakes on the first drop? everything doesnt have to be realistic but this twister coaster looks more like a hyper coaster.
  • djbrcace1234%s's Photo
I would seriously look at this site because it gives you the basic knowledge to build realistic layouts. It starts like a TOGO coaster (with the long 180 turn after the lift), and the only thing that reallyscreams B&M is the interlocking coasters. Not to mention the mid-course brake run comes way to soon to make some of those airtime hills you made to be enjoyable. I'm not saying to duplicate manufactures like most of us try and do, just work on mimicking something in reality to create flow, aesthetics, and combine thrills aliked.

That's like saying that women shouldn't be allowed to dunk in the WBNA because it just loses that WNBA charm. Codex allows LL to not be completely held back from possibilities, and Roomie decided that's what he would showcase.

as far as the discussion on codex goes, I don't mind it as I view it as two different games: on one hand the classic LL charm of some parks, and on the other hand the brilliant realism and technicality that codex offers. the difference is sort of there in rct2, but not nearly as strongly.

thanks for the wall tip too, I think I figured that out once before but immediately forgot :D

First off, thanks guys for all the comments on the screens, I appreciate it. Anyways, is this fencing any better?

Also, the colors I know are sort of a 'drab,' but it is part of affect, to show that the paint is old and losing it's color. I may change the color though.
