I'm tired of this community, so you'll probably see one last contribution from me before I move on from these wasted years of my life. Good day.

I love how people love playing the game, but once their done they say they've wasted all of that time.
  • Cocoa%s's Photo
Wow that is very cool Ge, shame you'll be leaving...

^^Well there's only a couple of jobs this sort of hobby can prepare you for, and I don't want to design roller coasters for a living, manage a theme park, or wipe up vomit off of paths, so I'm pretty much corkscrewed. End of story.
  • nin%s's Photo
Oh, 'cause I've always played this game for fun.
  • FullMetal%s's Photo
There's no way anyone could've wasted their time here. I think I've learned more about coasters (in general) here than anywhere else. There are also tons of people that make me laugh. And where else are you going to find a group of people as unique as the one's at NE? Don't leave, G. I love your screen, and I think that when whatever your working on is finished, people will want more. I know it's your life, but it would be a shame to let those people down.

i wholeheartedly agree with ge here.

its fun, but its still a waste of time. nobody really needs much, if any of the knowledge they can gain from playing like we do. and about meeting people like at NE, who gives a shit. when you aren't on the computer they don't exist, so its like that really counts anyway.

    I agree.
It's really fun to play so that's why I play, but I still think I'm wasting a lot of time here. It's sorta like a drug in a way, I know it's not good for me and I shouldn't be spending so much time with it, but I just can't not spend time playing RCT.

    hmmm

It's not wasting time. It's spending time doing something you enjoy. Having fun is not wasting time... If that's the case then everything is wasting time. Everything except work. Even then at work you'll waste time.
  • Comet%s's Photo
No I'm saying I spend too much time.

Of course its wasting time, but you guys act like if you weren't playing RCT you'd be living perfectly efficient lives. Playing RCT is no different than playing Call of Duty 3 all day. The way you guys speak is like you expected RCT to lead you down some sort of career path or something. If you play this game for any other reason than for it to be an enjoyable hobby when you have nothing else to do, then you're playing for the wrong reasons.

Time spent doing something you love is not time wasted.

time is a state of mind. for most americans, there is a past, present, and future. but not the entire world views time like we do. who would have thought i would have learned something in school?
  • thorpedo%s's Photo
    i agree with steve.
RCT is what i like to do. other people play (as stated before) call of duty or age of empires or something - i play RCT.
besides, it's more like a filler than anything else. let's use my life here in germany as an example. we live so far away from school (50 minutes there and 50 minutes back everyday with the bus and train) that when i do decide to come home from school, i am HOME. i can't go anywhere else! so after dinner i usually come up to my room, play RCT and watch 30 Rock on Netflix. why?
what else am i gonna do? read?
    don't make me laugh.

I think there is a difference in playing RCT and some game like Call of Duty.. In RCT you create something you can look back into; An idea/vision or creative outburst, whereas in Call of Duty you just shoot people or follow a storyline.. I would compare it to like watching a (interactive) movie (Call of Duty), or painting (RCT): Both are ways to entertain yourself but with a slight difference.. While "wasting your time" isn't necessarily the right wording I feel that with RCT you get more back for the time you've spend on it..

Most of the time I spend nowadays in RCT to be honest is watching parks already created by someone or myself..
So yeah, that's my view on it.. Certainly not a waste of time :p

But carry on showing screens, please ;)

it seems a bit underdetailed, but nice all the same.

Time enjoyed is not time wasted. Obviously if you don't enjoy the game, by all means quit, but if you have fun doing it you should keep it up.

This unexpected debate was at first a nuisance, but it's brought out a question that should have been asked a long time ago. How is our perception of time echoed in our RCT work, and how can we look at our own work and find in ourselves what we know deep down about our own perception to better allow our work to flourish through mirroring our inner perspective? We've barely scratched the surface of what makes us enjoy certain works over others. How has the obsession with detail become mirrored in our own perception of our RCT work which we continually improve to compare to those whose works we most admire for the reasons we ourselves create? There's clearly something deeper than simple fun going on here, but it's still a dead end for most of us as far as having any major applications on our outside lives that make playing the game worthwhile in a larger way.
