RCT Discussion / NE Hall of Fame Disscusion

    quality > quantity always.
  • RCFanB&M%s's Photo
Hmmm...well, quality is very important, but if we're talking about getting into the HoF, so is quantity(excluding small parks). One good park won't be enough, and many crappy parks aren't even close. I mean, quality and quantity kinda complete each other.

High Quality - Low Quantity: Failed

Low Quality - High Quantity (at least 3 medium/large parks): Failed

    ...IMO
  • Phatage%s's Photo
tim cross was a one hit wonder, but he's been copied so much that you may as well claim so many other parks as his, although if they were his it would bring down the average quality of his park's' because none have lived up to it. those that disagree with this don't realize how much people who are often credited with stuff really got it from FW. therefore he has the quality and quantity, so there should be no debate, and the same arguement applies to other 'one hit wonders'

    tim cross?

I'm totally at a loss, is that the guy who played rct2 and was here at NE at the start of the race to complete the first full rct solo?

If it's who I'm thinking of, I don't think all that many "copied" him, and I sure as hell never did.
  • Phatage%s's Photo
you don't copy anybody, and http://www.nedesigns...unner_ups&s=faw
  • Blitz%s's Photo
Ah, yeah him. I remember that guy. He got a lot of hate from a lot of people at the time if I remember correctly.

I'd say more people have copied SA and TY than TC. And then lots of people also copied Pyro, Nev, and Nate in comparable amounts(if not more-so) to those that copied TC.

I think where rcfan is going is this:
it isn't only about how good a parkmaker is or was, it is also about what he did to the rct community.
For example if he introduced a new kind of theming or shared a lot of knowledge are also point to consider if someone is HoF worthy.
Of course you need to have good parkmaker qualities also, but it's not only about who made the best park, that's the list already.
  • minnimee85%s's Photo
Well if you truly want a hall of fame, its important to consider the contributions of many who have never made parkmaker. For a while RCT Station had innovative parks that were never considered for NE, because of differing styles. This does not make their parks any less important to rct. Further, as was said earlier, special mentions should at least be made to those programmers who made rct what it is today. Without their actions, we wouldnt have NE as we know it, and the importance of that should not be undermined.

The essential question I think comes down to is this a Hall of Fame specifically for NE, in which case choosing from parkmakers only would be perfectly valid, or some larger RCT in general Hall of Fame, in which case the contributions of other players from other sites should be recognized. Furthermore, if this is to be done correctly, then a panel that encompasses not just NE parkmakers/admins, but the best from other sites should choose who gets in. Of course this all depends on how broad of a scope you wish the hall of fame to encompass..

I haven't really been following the topic, but I've read a few bits of a few people's posts.

My opinion - This is the New Element hall of fame. Fuck other sites, and fuck those that have made rct utilities, this should be a hall of fame of NE parkmakers. Whilst obviously I appreciate the contribution from those the likes of Doctor J, Ja227, AmazingEarl etc. I though the aim of this was to properly differentiate those that have made a mark in NE history with the parks they've released, and those that have made/are making some great parks, and those that aren't quite there yet. Let's stop fucking about with all this utility shit and get down to working out which fucking parkmakers deserve to be on this list

    I nominate Toon.

well i know this is way off but from what Kumba said using RctFan and Six Frags as an example i think it wouldnt come down to who had worked harder but rather who had made the bigger impact. being a parkmaker is about making REALLY nice work so much that is REALLY stands out. ya maybe one person made 5 good parks but one person made 1 REALLy good park i think it should go to the REALLY nice park. it may be from lack of update but in the parkmaker pages alot of parkmakers have less then 10 parks and are on the ratired list. i dont think it is a matter of number but rather skill. also how do you know one person didnt spend so much time making that one park that all the effort he put into it is the same as the other persons only that person made 5 less detailed and amazing parks. just my thoughts. i really think that a REALLY amazing park should represent a parkmaker not the amount...wheew thats alot

If you want to narrow it down to the absolute legends in terms of stylistic pioneering and influence my starters for the hall of fame would be:

    Scheussler
    NeVis
    Mala

    For earlier work:

    Joe Holland
    SA
    LAA
    Buster

As we go we'll get the newer legends, like RRP, Fatha', X-sector and Natelox.

EDIT: As for parkmaker spots; Quality > Quantity. Some of us *cough*me*cough* just took a while to get the former up to snuff while the latter was in progress. :p

^ I'm so gutted that i wasn't around when those guys were. They really pioneered RCT i guess, and i just think it's a shame that the new generation missed out. Although i do find it annoying when half of the people that have only been here a year or so, pretend that they were around when the 'legends' were.

So really i don't think we can have much say as to who gets inducted, we have to just look back and admire their accomplishments.

But in a few years, when it comes to inducting the guys that are around now, then we can have our say :)

    ^ LOL

Quite frankly the majority of the "Legends" weren't really around much anyway. Search the forums for posts by Mala, there aren't many... Same goes for NeVis and I've never seen a post by Scheussler.

SA was quite active for about a year and a half during the construction of RoB, and remained so for a short time after and then has been an occasional lurker since.

Fatha, Nate, Pyro, Butterfinger, X-sector and other great parkmakers were everyday posters when I joined though in 03'. That summer this site buzzed with activity. It truely was amazing. Sure the majority of us sucked (honestly, I think the quality of even the "beginners" has gone way up in the last year or so) but we built & released a lot of stuff fairly quickly.

Oh, and my say is based on some experence of those legends (all Mala's rct2 work was released after I joined) and a better appreciation, built through time and a good many chats with Posix, Coaster Ed, Iris and other "old guns" of rct. The three people I'd like to nominate I think are desirving because of their effect on their respective "styles".

NeVis = NE Style (LL) - Basically everything here decends from this to some extent or another.
Scheussler = Classical Style (LL) - Brought into rct2 by slob (metalface), but the whole "beautiful simplicity" thing really started to become a style with JS.
Mala = Fantasy (LL & RCT2) - Defined fantasy with Mountain Beach, pushed it to it's limits in Cydonia City, and shifted the whole community's view on the capabilities of rct2, and... oh yeah... he built Mount Sinister, voted the #1 LL park of all time (a ranking I fully agree with)

    Ride6 has it.

Kumba, please take note of what people are saying here. There's no way this kind of thing can be settled by a community vote, with the current community knowing so little about the who what and why.
  • Kumba%s's Photo
Im listening. I think the forum members will get a fraction of the say, but not all of it by any means.

    I nominate Toon.

    Many thanks to you!

    My votes:

    Nevis
    - Revolutionized ride making and coaster making.
    - Created the first real great Adventure ride (again, first GREAT adventure ride)
    - Invented and pioneered Snow theming
    - Basically invented trackitecture.
    Mala
    - Hold his place as the most extreme ride maker ever.
    - Theming is actually above-average, not amazing, but his atmosphere-creating abilities are second to none.
    - King of landscaping, nobody creates better "worlds" than mala.
    - Only parkmaker ive ever seen create amazing peepable parks.
    SA
    - Made the first freat RCT2 park, and possible greatest RCT2 park.
    - Invented the idea of themed lands (along with Joe H)
    - Invented the 4 corner idea (4 themed lands on each corner).
    - One of the top 3-4 coaster builders ever
    - Legendary rides (Eversio Lemuria for example)
    Last Arch Angel
    - Before the was Mala, there was him, and most people forget him because of Mala's otherworldy talent.
    - Created the first real great park at Danimation.
    - Created the first real adventure ride (in Testament).
    - First real RCT superstar (along with Joe Holland).
    - Versatile, could create a great realistic park and great fantasy park.
    Coaster Ed
    - Seriously advanced the way LL was played, and one of only a couple LL parkmakers to be able to challenge RCT2 parks in terms of detail.
    - Seriously advanced the way LL rides were made.
    - Seriously advanced hacking in LL.
    - Took LL to another level, even before Mala and I did.
    Iris
    - Just for the simple fact that NE is here, and NE is one of the most important things to ever happen to RCT.

    On the Bubble
    RRP
    - Basically created the NE style with Sea World Atlanta.
    - Nobody influenced more people than him in regards to theming in LL.
    - Creates excellent atmospheres, best realistic atmosphere creator.
    - Lack of production maybe stops him from making it.
    - Only made on special park, even though it was really special.
    Nate
    - Prolific collection of great parks
    - First to really capture the magic of Disney, and one of the few to do it (XCoaster is another)
    - Excellent ride maker
    - Excellent themer
    - Brought a mixture of natural theming and trackitecture together very well.
    - Might not get in because imo, he lacked the special "wow" factor, but instead was consistently excellent.
    - Lacks a major breakthrough park that tremendously affected the RCT community (Perhaps Ouest would have been it).
    Phatage
    - Incredibly talented
    - Excellent themer, excellent ride maker.
    - Premier RCT2 parkmaker, sets the bar for others to reach.
    - Not a lot of excellent work (Only 2-3 great rct2 pieces).
    - Amazing coaster builder (Denali for EX)
    - Might not make it because of lack of production (or lack of amazing and influential work in numbers)
    - Likely when hes done, hell be there.
    X-Sector
    - Supremely talented much like Phatage
    - Sometimes works to fast and does not focus enough, which makes his parks less special (even though they are great).
    - Did not affect the game like those in the Hall of Fame
    - Likely one "amazing and influential" park away from the Hall.

    Not Enough
    Shceussler
    - IMO, he had one great park in Moonlight Magic. IOA Hollywood was not spectacular, even though it has one of the most ridiculous floorless coasters ever.
    - Lived in the shadow of SACoasterFreak, likely due to similar style (and SA being better at that style).
    - Pretty decent coaster maker, has some gems but not enough.
    - Pretty decent themer, but very very inconsistent (See IOA Hollywood).
    - Not enough work to make up for lack of "wow" factors in parks.
    Joe Holland
    - Unfortunately, despite his genius, SACoasterFreak took his style and elevated it.
    - Lived in SA's shadow, and basically became forgotten.
    - Not enough great parks
    - Not in the game long enough, only was here for a year or two.
    X-Coaster
    - Not enough time, but if he keeps doin work like DisneyAir hes a shoe-in.
