I don't really listen to music... the newest band I listen to is probably Flogging Molly, so I was wondering, since there are obviously so many awesome bands that people here like, could some people recommend good alternative and/or rock bands? I've discovered these are really the only kinds of music I like, except for soundtrack, but that leads into a whole other thing...
Anyone? -

Modest Mouse.
My suggestion: go to the What are you listening to? topic, pick five random songs, and look them up on Limewire.
Rinse, repeat.

Lostprophets probably fits your style more than the bands I listed previously.

^I would suggest you to listen to 'Lunchbox' by Marilyn Manson. If you like this song, you'll certainly like other songs from the same band -

lol I'd have to find the discs first... when everyone started hating Linkin Park I had to hide them
I've listened to:
Lostprophets (probably the best so far IMO)
Showbread (not too great... I didn't really like it)
Modest Mouse (like some things, but the majority didn't sound good to me)
I'll get to Marylin Manson in a minute -

I'm just getting into some new bands like Army of Anyone (the guys from Stone Temple Pilots) and (+44), but if your into the whole rock thing, check out some older stuff like Van Halen, Led Zepplin, all them.
Oh and I support Linkin Park... they're new album better come out this month like they said... -

My Chemical Romance seems to be a popular choice these days and they don't entirely suck (even though they're emo).
If you're looking for something different listen to some old 70's bands like Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Bad Company, and Cream (yeah, they're 60's). They put new music to shame. -

Umm you could try out Thrice.
Check out "All That's Left", and "Between The End And Where We Lie" -

I recommend Muse. They are kind of an acquired taste but I consider their music to be the most amazingly epic stuff ever. They're a combination of metal, space rock, indie, electronic, classical and opera. On their new album they even experiment with techno, r'n'b and latin sounds. Sounds good.
Also, it goes without saying Radiohead, but you probably already listen to them. And if not *slap*
Other awesome bands that I listen to:
-Keane (alternative/pop)
-Hard-fi (alternative/indie/garage)
-Placebo (glam/alternative)
-Wolfmother (retro/alternative)
-Tool (metal/progressive)
-Yeah Yeah Yeah's (indie/alternative)
-Coldplay (like radiohead but not as good)
-Franz Ferdinand (indie/garage/alternative)
-Bloc Party (indie/alternative)
-The Vines (garage/rock/alternative)
-White Stripes (garage/alternative/blues)
but thats just me but give them a listen if you want. -
