    It is in fact a dome. Trouble is that when you sink a 3d theatre you get weird glitchy three-quarter hemispheres when you only want 1/2, so the wooden track is there to trick the eye into seeing a dome instead of a ball.

    To be honest it looks incredibly awkward. I'm not really a fan. Each component kind of sticks out rather than flowing as a whole structure.
