General Chat / It is snowing.

Actually, it probably was a good call by the school system. I'm sure that there were a lot of accidents around the area that could have created even worse situations if kids were trying to get to school.

Yet school was cancelled after buses were already out, so at that point all high school buses were fully loaded and some more than likely at school (and since the buses were out we actually don't have to make up that day). Right before I was going to leave to drive to school, the local news station reported it was cancelled. Part of the problem was also, the meteorologists seriously mucked up the forecast and called for 2-4", when all we got was 1/4". This is pretty typical of the county though, I guess I wasn't really expecting anything more.

Nice pics Jkay! Now, send some of the white stuff over to Salt Lake.

And Jampri, are you in Brigham?

    Yup :)

On a side note, we got another inch here today, and warmed up to around 20 degrees. Stupid cold snap had us down in single to low double digits for over a week. Add in the inversion and you have a soupy mess.

We just got 3 or 4 inches here.

We.ve got some snow a week ago here, at Montreal. Good ski conditions, although the temperature is so cold, -40 C' with the wind factor... It isn't the right time to ski...

we got some more snow. probably 2 inches. but then it turned to rain, and now it's a giant slushy mess.

The snow this winter is terrible.
It has only snowed on the weekend:
The first time it snowed was on December 31st... but we were on winter break.
The second time was the weekend before Martin Luther King Day... but we had MLK Day off anyway.
And it snowed yesterday and this morning, so we won't get a snow day tomorrow.

What good is snow when I end up having to drive in it, and school isn't cancelled? It's absolutely worthless. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to drive everywhere... but alas, I do.

I guess the plus side is that I work at an ice cream shop, so no one wants ice cream. ;)

Hahaha, its fun reading this stuff, I guess where some of you live it has high humidity, but you remind me of all the people in Toronto complaining of -15 celcius, -15 celcius with humidity is pretty cold, but up here in Fort McMurray Alberta it gets to -40 celcius before we turn our BBQ grills off and when it hits -55 (coldest it ever gets, never -56, always -55) we start saying, "Getting cold eh!"

Weather up here is pretty crazy, a few weeks ago it was +8 during what is usually a -40 day. And in the summer it gets relatively warm with temperatures nearing 40 celcius, weather should not have a range from -55 to +40, its abnormal, but hey, the weather in Canada is pretty crazy. Until you are outside in -55 celcius with strong winds you really dont know what bad Canadian weather is. I remember last year a lot of people would boil a large amount of water, put it in a bucket, and toss the water off on the side of the road, and it would turn to ice before it hit the ground, its really interesting. It would be hard for me to live in a place that dos'nt snow.

Back to my first point, people in Toronto complain of -15, that is why the Leaf's suck.

my school got cancelled today, nad it was because of the ice, not hte snow. it was actually kind of stupid, becuase the roads are better now than they have been for like a week. kind of baffles me.

School has been cancelled so much here that some districts are adding 20 minutes to each school day to make up for the lost time. I found that kind of crazy.

We got another 8 inches here last weekend. Thankfully, we might get two weeks without any more snow. All this moisture is really taking its toll on the streets and roads here. Some major pot holes....actually, some streets have pot canyons. City Maintenance crews will certainly have their work cut out for them come spring...lol

Where I went to school, and where I am going now, has NEVER had a snow day, or a day cancelled because of weather. If it was less then -22 then the elementary schools would have indoor recess. But never, in the -55 weather, were the schools closed for the day. I guess its because some cities are not used to snow or ice, and more drivers means more people likely to get hurt.

I found this awhile ago, making fun of people who can't drive is hilarious, especially when they can't drive in a little bit of snow...

Some really terrible drivers in Omaha during a less-than-exciting snow event.

This is the first time someone has come to our house offering to shovel our driveway for money.
