We don't have snow on our lawns. There are icicles on the blades of grass instead

Today I was getting into my car for the first time since I've come back to Vermont, and since then we had snow, freezing rain, and more snow. So my car was covered in snow, then a solid sheet of ice, and more snow. Not just ice that forms on your windshield all the time, either. That was a first.

I was at a Los Angeles Branch Library on Santa Monica Blvd earlier today (site visit; I'm an architecture major), and it started HAILING!! No joke! HAIL!! It doesn't quite snow down at this elevation, but hail is pretty rare too. In fact, it was probably the fourth time I've ever seen hail in LA.

    Hail baby!!

    Hail in motion!

    Car. Meet hail.

No, it's not snow, but in LA proper, it's close enough!

Everyone in the library was amazed. And I must admit, it was pretty cool.

Shit. This is the worst time possible it could snow. Today was supposed to be the last day of finals but now I'll probably have to go back tomorrow.

Only time I've ever been angry at snow.

Are you saying your finals got postponed due to that light dusting of snow?

    Wow.
  • gir%s's Photo
Living in North Carolina, yes. And did all the snow/ice on the roads melt within an hour? Yes. Good call county school system.. :\

    Meh. That's not snow.

    Try:
-over 6 feet of snow in the past 3 weeks
-almost-permenant black ice on most side roads
    -15+ foot snow drifts
-icicles longer than I am tall
-piles of snow over 50 feet tall in most big parking lots
-14+ hours of snow shoveling in past 3 weeks
-another 8-12 inches expected this weekend

CO looks like it's getting pwned in the snow department.

psst jkay if you wanna loan me like six inches i'd be pretty happy.

everytime precipitation occurs in maryland, it warms up enough to make it rain. then when the rain stops it gets cold.

    ^ Same here.

^(Way up there) Yeah, pBOB, that's what my Birch looked like. One of my Bradford Pears split in threes, and the other might barely survive. At first it looked like a wintery forest, then a warzone, now a bare frontyard.

It snowed for about 20 minutes in Connecticut, then changed to rain, then freezing rain, which is coming down right now. Fun.
  • Jellybones%s's Photo
Today it was quite warm. Around 25.

Grow some fucking balls. You Californians whining that its 40 fucking degrees outside, you guys make me sick.
  • Corkscrewed%s's Photo
    How'd you react to a 5.0 earthquake?

Grow something resembling a central nervous system. No one from California has been whining about how cold it is in this topic. Now, it actually has been pretty cold recently, as evidenced by Cork's pictures (though I guess hail must be more common in San Diego, because I've seen it quite a bit). Anyways, temperature is relative. What's cold in California might be warm for you, whereas what's cold for you might be warm for someone used to bathing in liquid nitrogen.

And if temperature isn't relative, 40 degrees is pretty damn cold.

40 degrees is cold when you are used to 60-70 degree temps. But when it hits 40 after being well below freezing, it feels like summer again.

Actually, it probably was a good call by the school system. I'm sure that there were a lot of accidents around the area that could have created even worse situations if kids were trying to get to school.

I know that here in Indiana, this may have caused a 2 hour delay for the schools to open. But it would have caused numerous accidents on the roads. For some reason, Hoosiers seem to forget how to drive in winter weather over the summer.
