Man, I've been swamped with work. Gimme about an hour or two (gotta type up this Concept Statement for my project. Why am I here instead, you ask? Because I'm procrastinating. Ciao!).
Sorry about the suckiness. It was a bit rushed. Anyways, Gymkid did the skeeball machine and the ATV machine. I did the Gameboy (with Arcade Tycoon, which was going to be my justification for a RCT scale arcade), the Galaxius V machine, the ATV screen, and the sad beginnings of the pinball machine. The park itself was Gymkid's idea, and originally centered more on the pinball machine (which is why I'm sad that it's so unfinished). Nothing is quite finished. Nothing is in the correct proportions (that would require a much larger map).
What? We forfeited again!? We're making a bit of a habit of this...
Shame this wasn't finished. It really had the potential to be my fave park this season. Great idea and brilliant execution. Something fresh for once. As I said though, real shame you guys never finished this.
Hmm, there's a lot of ideas in there that I like. The ATV ride and Galaxian ride are creative ideas that work pretty well. The pinball machine definitely would have been cool (just out of curiosity, what kind of ride were you going to use?) It could have been an unexpected variation on the room theme -- but it could also be a mess. I like the gameboy, it's very well done, but what is it doing there? And the pinball machine should really be elevated if you're maintaining the arcade theme. There's another problem with this kind of theme in general -- it is nice to see people challenging the idea of what an RCT park should be, but at the same time you're completely sacrificing any hope of scoring points based on park atmosphere. The two bedroom parks for example had a lot of clever ideas in them, but as a whole they weren't really places I could imagine myself in, and I suspect that would be the case here. And without that connection, it's all too obvious that I'm just looking at an RCT park. There's no magic you know? I like the magic. The parts of the map I liked were the ATV ride portion and the Galaxian ride portion. Maybe it would work better if the map were filled with rides like that? You score points for creativity, for execution of a clever and unusual idea, but even if this were finished it's never really going to work as a place, it's always going to be an object -- a glorified sculpture -- and I'd have a hard time picking that over a well-designed traditional park with a good atmosphere. But then everyone knew week 9 didn't matter, so I'm sure you guys are saving the really good stuff for the playoffs.
I was most imprssed by Gymkids Skee-ball game, the awning tickets are like the funniest detail ever. The whole Arcade idea was all Gyms, then due to making the playoffs we had added Ryan on at the last second. He stepped in and worked for only like a week making the ATV facede, Galaxain and gameboy.
Not bad work guys, tho Gym you really did not get much done and I was pretty disapointed by that.
(just out of curiosity, what kind of ride were you going to use?)
Funny you should ask, as I'm really not sure. There was an old custom bobsled coaster that used as sphere as it's car, so that could've worked, but I couldn't find it, so that was out. I was thinking maybe the automobile cars on the mini coaster, as they're sort of roundish, can be colored, and are capable of a lot of movement.
I like the gameboy, it's very well done, but what is it doing there?
Yeah, it doesn't make that much sense. Probably because the idea came to me when I was trying to fall asleep. It was mostly just an excuse to get in a top down screen, to take up some ground room with something that wouldn't block something else, and to include an RCT-scale arcade (I was planning on more machines, but all I got done was the DDR machine and the beginnings of another machine.). The only excuse I can think of that fits the park theme is that someone brought it in and set it down while playing the extraordinarily small (by comparison) skeeball machine.
BTW, the Galaxius machine was made mostly because it allowed me to make a coaster and because I really like older space shooters. It was inspired primarily by Gradius (note the Moai), but also Salamander (or Life Force, as I knew it when I was about 6, which is the reason for the sun scene), Asteroids (thus the asteroids and the UFO), and Galaxian/Galaga. I'd planned on the ending part of the ride being some kind of boss battle (that's why it slows down). The theming for it was, at best, only half done.
Anyways, I agree with most of what you said. Fantasy parks aren't really my thing, but it was pretty fun working on one. Maybe we'll finish it after H2H is over. I don't think it would take much more time.
Thanks to everyone who thought this was a good idea, and sorry to have it not finished.
This is probably my last peice of RCT. H2H signups were at the end of the school year/beginning of the summer, and figured I'd be able to build quickly and easily. I never really got the 'rush' out of building this park that I got out of building my old parks, and as a result I ended up procrastinating quite a bit.
It boiled down to the fact that I loved the idea, but didn't feel like sitting there placing 1/4 tile blocks for hours as my friends went out to do something fun.
That, and I realized that I'm never going to have as much free time to just play a game that I once did in high school and younger. Not until I'm 55 or so.
So, thanks/sorry. Thanks Kumba for giving me a chance to play. +Xcoaster your stuff was really cool you took the idea and ran with it.
