So I just read that Bush has more or less given Israel authority to continue bombing the hell out of Lebanon..
Iran, is developing nuclear weapons. NK more or less has one.
Oh what a joy the world has become. -

Yup.
Now, just wait 'til Iran and Syria jump in on Lebanon's side.
US backing of either side here is a bad, bad idea...

since when has blowing up everybody else because of a three-year-old, disproven theory become unnecessary? -

....last time I checked, blowing people up over a disproven theory is essentially the definition of unnecessary. (When put in the context of war of course) -

Well I'm supposed to be going to Israel (Jerusalem to be exact) on September 2nd for nine months. Looks like this will be comming down to a last minute decision on weather I'm going. Hezbolla, Hamas, Al Queda and every other terrorist organization does need to be wiped out so I don't see this as unnecessary. -

Fortunately, they can't even control it...NK more or less has one.
No, I'm serious. During those tests they shot up two weeks ago, their Taepodong II (I think that's the name) was so unstable that the US couldn't even determine its trajectory (the missile failed 15 seconds into flight), and North Korean never had control of it.
Hezbolla is really the major one to blame this time in the Middle East. They basically interjected themselves into this again and kidnapped a soldier. However, Israel is definitely using this as part of an excuse to carry out their agenda of bombing the shit out of countries that want to destroy it.
Israel sort of has a point this time, though. They withdrew out of Gaza, making an unprecedented concession to the Palestinians, and yet the PLO and Hamas continued to attack Israel. Of course, the official PLO policy IS to take any concessions and continue to fight until Israel is no more, since they do not recognize Israel as a state.
Basically: it's stupid. Very, very stupid. And while this current crisis won't erupt into World War III (unless someone does something idiotic... like China nukes Israel), it's definitely no laughing matter either. -

Sadly you, like many other of my fellow Americans, are missing a few very important points. By creating massive conflicts in the Middle East we're tossing tens, if not hundereds, of thousands of otherwise unbias, innocent people into the line of fire. They weren't in that position without American forces there, therefore they'll side against "US". In other words our "war on terror" is most likely creating as many terrorists and is destroys at the cost of billions, or perhapse, tillians of dollars and tens of thousands of priceless lives.
If you have any love of humanity you'd see that all of this is bull shit. This situations isn't WWII, there are not clear enemies and there aren't "battle lines". This is a war the American military is not set up to fight. We're excellent at either invading, evading or eliminating a defined force head on. We're fucking sitting ducks in the Middle East without a defined force to attack.
Anyway WWIII can't be too far away unless the whole world is willing to give up on oil, rather than fighting for the remaining suppies of it. Speaking of which that's what these wars are all about anyway. Creating a "new Iraq" isn't in America's interest. Opening up the Iraqi oil fields however is.
*sigh* Now that I've gone off on that rant about our impending doom I'm feeling like shit... *sigh* It sucks to be aware doesn't it?

The oil problem in the United States stems from a lack of refineries, not crude oil. We can have all the crude oil in the world and it will do shit for us if every refinery is already running at nearly 100%. -

You guys do know that the US contains more oil than exists in the Middle East don't yoo?
It's in the form of shale oil. Meaning it exists within shale rock formations. The only reason that we don't get this oil is the cost of extraction from the shale.
Now might be a good time to see if there is a more cost effective way to do this so that the US isn't as nearly dependent on foreign oil. It might even make the US a major oil exporter rather than importer. -

Im not so worried about China, as Im Iran and Syria. A lot of this current activity points to Iranian/Syrain controllers of hezbollah.
Although as Cork said Israel does have a point. They've been making a good faith effort at peace, and getting shit on for it. A country will only bend so far before it says enough already...
Also on the oil thing. There is a ton of oil still to be drilled in the Gulf of Mexico, but that kind of deep sea drilling is unprofitable at the moment. Of course, this could change very soon, as convential oil wells dry up.
Lastly, and at the risk of sounding like a dick here, I think its absolutely hilarious that the government is charging people to be evacuated. -

I'd rathe make a stab at going for alternative energy sources that can burn cleaner. Heck, it'll help the oil problem and the environment at once.
Oh, except our oil companies won't ever allow that unless there literally was no more oil... -

Damnit croky who cares about the environment, theres money to be made here...I'd rathe make a stab at going for alternative energy sources that can burn cleaner. Heck, it'll help the oil problem and the environment at once.

I wouldn't argue any of that with you at all Corky. But it probably won't happen until those same oil and/or energy companies have some serious control over those energy sources too.I'd rathe make a stab at going for alternative energy sources that can burn cleaner. Heck, it'll help the oil problem and the environment at once.

Doubtful. More just ends up being found. A few months ago the Saudis estimated to have more than before despite current drilling.Of course, this could change very soon, as convential oil wells dry up.
I don't really see though how the car companies wouldn't love an alternate fuel that is as cheaper than gasoline. A comparable car that is cheaper and easy to operate would sell.
