Yep, a diehard Northeasterner. One of the ones who lives in sunny Southern California and wouldn't have it any other way though. Oh, and I think SFMM is better than CP. Hell, I think Ghostrider is better than all the rides I named except the Boss. I just forgot about it because I was busy changing the channel while typing on AIM while rattling out CCI woodies (And I'm not referring to the result of a CCI employee seeing an overdressed underfitnessed women). So yea, a Northeasterner is the last word I'd use to describe myself. Well, second to last behind Republican.Edited by eman, 17 July 2006 - 06:42 PM.

It would be nice to see a wooden coaster built that wasn't too rough and had higher drops like SoB. Wooden coasters have a tendancy to give a bigger thrill to me than rides such as Goliath here at Six Flags Magic Mountain.
Texas Giant can't touch any of the larger scale CCI's IMO. Boss, Rampage, Tremors, Legend, Raven, etc. are all absolutely godly.
Two words for best woodie:
Texas Giant.
Nuff said.
You guys so badly need to ride El Toro. El Toro is the best rollercoaster in the world. That is nuff said. -

Personally I think Cornball Express is the best coaster in the world because I can ride it 25+ times in one days and still want to do it again. I can't say that about any other ride I've ever been on.
Anyway The Voyage, while it's my #3 coaster overall (Millennium Force = #2) and #2 woodie, worries the shit out of me. It's huge and so incredibly fast throughout the layout with major forces... I know it might only be 3Gs but it's trembling in the best possible way the whole time. Anyway I pray that Holiday World keeps after it and retracks sections as they need it and some of it will need that this winter I'm sure...
Oh, and the people in that book are ass holes. Their reasoning was extremely poor, however their point remains true. Steel coasters ARE pretty lifeless compaired to the woodies... I don't really know why, but trying to justify it would just pollute the fun.
As for SOB I've seen video and such of it, looks like a very poor layout. They could save it much in the way Cedar Point could save Mean Streak- GCI. Hire GCI to do re-profile and re-tracking work and put millennium flyer trains on it. The result, for at least the first couple seasons would be buttery-smooth fun. Sure it would quiver a little but what fun is a ride that doesn't?

Is El Toro longer than it looks? I see that thing and go "okay, it's a lot of airtime, but the ride looks like it lasts all of 45 seconds." Which means it's great, but nowhere near "best ever."
So just wondering if it's just that airtime, or if I'm missing anything. -

Holy Crap! No one said The Voyage, either? Wait, where's that?
And eman, you sir, are hilarious. -

I'd rather ride The Boss once with a line then ride El Toro for a whole day with no lines whatoever. At least judging by the POV's. I haven't actually ridden El Toro so my opinion might as well be ignored, but from what I've seen it looks like a lackluster B&M hypercoaster with worse seats and a wooden structure. Not that that's a bad thing, it just can't compare to CCI. But alas, this topic regards the shitpile of lumber known as SoB, a wooden coaster that shamed all other wooden coasters (Even Psyclone ), and as far as I'm concerned they can turn it into a Vekoma Boomerang and it woud be an improvement. (More inversions, less rib fractures!) -

El Toro doesnt come anywhere close to a B&M hypercoaster. The seats are worse than B&M's, but only because B&M's are the best ones out there. El Toro's seats are extremely comfortable and are my second favorite after B&M hypercoasters. But yeah, from pictures of POVs, El Toro doesnt look much differant than a normal woodie/hypercoaster but it so is. At the top of every single hill, the airtime is throw-your-ass-out-of-your-seat extreme ejector air. You wont get that on any B&M coaster. My only CCI I've ridden is Boulder Dash and the only GCI's are Lightning Racer and Wildcat and El Toro blows all of them out of the water.
The actual layout is pretty long, its 4400' of track (Ghostrider-4533', Boulder Dash-4725', Legend-4042', Raven-2731', Villain-3980') so compared to other big woodies, its on the longer side. The actual ride is shorter than others because 1)The lifthill is all of 10 seconds because of the cable lift and 2)Because the ride is like 15 mph too fast for its layout so it flies through it (which makes the crazy ejector air). And its not just the airtime, the twister is just as crazy as the airtime. Imagine going through this section at a good 60 mph: http://img273.images...76/twistze2.jpg its ridiculous. Is El Toro longer than it looks? I assumed there was insane ejector air from the POV. That still doesnt change my opinion. You want crazy airtime/lats, ride in the back car of the Boss on a rainy day, the little dropturn after the first drop will kick your ass like no other. But not in a painful way, just a holy shit im gonna die kinda way. As for the length thing, I think length is where El Toro suffers. Like you said, its too fast for the layout. If Intamin had made the lift 20 feet shorter and merely varied the hill heights more and made a more mixed coaster than heres the hills, heres the twists, heres the brakes, goodbye, El Toro could've been great. There should be more to a wooden coaster than airtime and lats, they need to be at the right times and with variety. Thats why rides like The Voyage and Boulder Dash will stay atop the top 50 wooden coasters in the Golden Ticket awards, while El Toro will barely touch the top 10 if even. -

But if it was any slower, than the ride wouldnt be as fun. The length actually doesnt ruin the ride one little bit. If they changed it like you said, then El Toro could have been great? I've ridden 60 or so rollercoasters and El Toro is my favorite one, the ride IS great and IMO it is perfect. As for the length thing, I think length is where El Toro suffers. I'm quoting you to that. I cant wait until you are proven wrong when the new Golden Tickets come out.
I think its funny that you have all these strong opinions about a ride without even having ridden it. -

not a big SoB fan. loop or no loop, the thing is not enjoyable or beneficial to the park in any way other than it's reputation and obviously adding to the number of coasters in the park. it needs to come down and be replaced with a beemer or something. -

Yeshli, keep in mind I said "I haven't actually ridden El Toro so my opinion might as well be ignored." And, hey, everyone has their own idea of the perfect coaster, I'm just stating mine. (Which happens to be the right one ) And please do quote me on the GTA, I'll get Toro being 7 or worse and you can have 6 or better. Winner gets a coke. -

I don't know about ratings but I'll take El Toro having the least creative design in a long time for a coaster of its height.

While standing in line, you're exactly right, but when you're sitting on the break run, you're thinking "thats the best design for a coaster I've ever seen"I don't know about ratings but I'll take El Toro having the least creative design in a long time for a coaster of its height.

Lets put it this way. El Toro is an eleven-trick (or however many hills it as) pony. The thing is that it's the same trick. Well, and then the banked turns come in at the end.
Great coaster? Definitely. Best ever? I doubt it. But then again, I wouldn't call Boss that way either. You're the first person I've seen who does not think it's too painful. You're like my friend who enjoys riding Psyclone. -

In all honesty, I've never heard complaints of Boss being overly rough, but maybe thats just because I'm naive. Seriously though, it's hardly rough for a wooden coaster, it's just intense. I've ridden it somewhere aroud ten times, and never once was it painful at all. Maybe that's just me though; I am quite the badass. -

Hello.
I was an El Toro naysayer when I saw the videos and layout...
I did however recently ride it last week and I must say...
My top 2 coasters of all time list is now the following...
1. Millenium Force
2. El Toro
I really can't go into more detail than that because for me that says enough.
I also rode it at night not seeing the second section of the ride and it was beyond insane.
Stupid layout or not. The ride is amazing.
