I absolutely hate this coaster. It is definately the most painful ride I have ever been on and even if it weren't painful, it would still only be moderately enjoyable...it just keeps doing the same thing over and over with a loop thrown in the middle. I say tear the fucker down and give Kings Island a long overdue steel monster (a B&M hypercoaster like the article suggests would be excellent). It could be massive with all of the room Kings Island has to build on.

They should tear it down, along with Psyclone (SFMM), and build something really cool with all that lumber... like a pier or something.

Yeah...a B&M Hyper would be great, or an Intamin Mega/Giga coaster.

I still find the idea of a wooden coaster with a steel loop to be stupid.

It would be nice to see a wooden coaster built that wasn't too rough and had higher drops like SoB. Wooden coasters have a tendancy to give a bigger thrill to me than rides such as Goliath here at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

Massive woodies are nice for the first few years but tend to go to hell after a while. You want a woodie? Build a nice medium-sized one. Those hold up a LOT better over time because they dont' tear themselves apart. There's a reason the giants are bad: wood isn't meant to support 200 feet tall structures. In housing, you don't build more than three or four stories in wood. Why should you build giant near-hypers? It's not meant for such heights.

A hyper could prolly fit within SoB's footprint pretty nicely, actually, but we'll see.

Their first mistake was going with RCCA to design the ride. Horrible, horrible layout, and their coasters are notorious for being both rough and boring.

If they would have gone with an Intamin plug-and-play, it would've been able to stand the height and been smooth as glass.

    Well, that too.

Replace it with a CCI woodie.

I have a roller coaster book, from a while back (1999, I think) and in it, people were interviewed, saying that "steel coasters have no life or soul, becauseyou don't feel the excitement or roughness of the wooden." Also, there was something about how steel didn't have soul because it's designed on computers.

Well I have news for these people: THEY'RE FUCKING IDIOTS.

-broken ribs=not fun (I don't know about them, but I personally don't like hospitals)
-all coasters nowadays are designed using CAD. Wood and steel.

Yeah, the world could use another B&M, so let's just tear the thing down. (Psyclone at SFMM will be going with the rest of the park)

Your book is damn right. Nothing can compare to the feeling you get on a CCI such as Boss where you are 100% out of control and every turn seems like hell until you finsih the ride, at which point you immediately sprint to the entrance again, pushing your friend down to get there before him so you can get the "good" side. Steel coasters are nice and all, but they are not nearly as intense or unique as the good wooden coasters (See CCI). Only pussies, 5 year olds, and pregnant women have good reason for avoiding a good wooden coaster. Everyone else is just plain missing out. The people in your book aren't the fucking idiots. I'll let you figure out who really is for yourself. (I'll give you a hint: Name rhymes with sing and starts with an L.)

Yeah I went to Knott's with a friend a year or so back. We rode Ghostrider first and when we rode Silver Bullet afterwards he was like "dude, that was so smooth and controlled it was pretty lame."
    case in point?

    Two words for best woodie:
    Texas Giant.
    Nuff said.

Woodies have their strong points, steels have theirs. Hone in on those characteristics so that they become the greatest each time one is opened. That's what I say.

Texas Giant can't touch any of the larger scale CCI's IMO. Boss, Rampage, Tremors, Legend, Raven, etc. are all absolutely godly.
  • Corkscrewed%s's Photo
I wouldn't really call Raven a large scale CCI... it's not even 100' tall (altho it's got a 110' drop).
  • eman%s's Photo
Well, large scale regarding length/reputation.

I assume not enough people have ridden it, yet. It may need a wee bit of time to build a legendary name for itself. Legends aren't born, they're made. Or at lest that's what the TV said.
