In my opinion, it's about time that the US had some small cars available for purchase. With the ever raising costs to maintain a car, something needs to come along to help out. This may be part of the answer.
Although the article shows a pic of the four seater, it's no longer being produced. Shame on Daimler-Chrysler, that would be the better seller in the US. They need to rethink only offering the two seater here. -

They wouldn't sell. At least not to the average American. We like big, fast, gas- guzzling cars and SUVs. -

Or we could just have environmentally friendly normal cars...oh wait that makes too much sense for anyone. -

If I could afford it, I'd get one. While I kind of agree with cg? regarding their looks, I'm not really concerned about that. I have a 70 mile round trip to work and back, so I could certainly use the high mileage.
Unfortunately, I would prefer to have the four seater. I've got a 13 year old son that I have to cart around and then add the wife into the mix, I need the extra room that the sedan would offer. -

Our cars are way too large to allow for a smart car. If you got in an accident, there would be a 90 percent chance you'd get killed. -

Well, you can buy them in Canada! We've had them for a year or two now. And if I liked driving, the Smart Car is quite probably the only car I would consider purchasing. But I don't like driving, and thus, when I can afford a home, will live in a transit oriented community. -

The great thing about them is you can park them nose-on to the pavement!
The bad thing about them is that they break.
But yeah I was reading about this bill to get the US government to control CO2 emissions. Of course it won't go through, but if it did then maybe something would finally be done about your car situation.
chapelz - the only reason you wouldn't be able to see anything would be because everyone else would be in huge fuck-off SUVs. Solution: make everyone drive SENSIBLY SIZED cars. -

I'll prolly never see one down here. I'd have to go outside the country.
True they get great mileage, but they just don't look all that great. Besides, there's always the Camry Hybrid or even the Prius if one were to be really conscious. Honestly, it doesn't seem to warrant a big enough market here in the US. It kinda follows suit of the xA and xB - trading their style for the Smart Car's mileage. -

I would drive a sensibly sized car if I didn't live in Texas where I would have to fight with Excursions and other big trucks driven by bad drivers. BTW my Ranger gets 30MPG while its no 60MPG its still good for a truck.Edited by chapelz, 27 June 2006 - 10:28 PM.
