lazyboy speed becomes a problem when you get people that still has a car from before 1990 that has seen much better days and they try to push it on a highway; they cant keep it straight and weave in and out of their lane. and then you have the mexicans that go 30 on the freeway and the ones that think they are hot shit and try to race everyone(though it is pretty funny to see them get arrested when the cops find out they are aliens). and yes mantis mexicans are the worst drivers most asians and indians are ok but mexicans are either really slow or are trying to cause accidents. -

No, teenage American girls are the worst drivers ever. Who seriously drives while smoking, putting on makeup, and talking on the cell phone--all at the same time? ...That's right, they do.
At least the foreign crazies are paying attention while they're driving like psychos, and they usually have some type of method to their madness... usually; Americans (in general) don't know what's going on even when they ARE paying attention to the road!
I don't know how many times I come home from either school or work and wonder how the hell some Nebraskans (and Iowans, for that matter) are legal drivers. Between the rural bumpkins that have no business driving in the city and the "city dwellers" that have no business driving period, it's really mind-boggling. Our standards are so unbelievably low it's ridiculous.Edited by John, 01 June 2006 - 06:37 PM.

Pilots generally don't have as much control about where they fly as you would think. They have to fill out a flight plan for the general area they intend to be in, and they are being watched by air traffic controllers at all times, warning them of nearby air traffic. -

How about eating, putting on make-up, fixing their hair, and texting at the same time? That's my sister. -

Ahahaha, only supertrooper and I know know what's like with the worst METROPLEX of drivers in the nation (poss. the world). EVERYONE does a minimum of 10 OVER on almost over road in every city (save Farmers Branch). We also have one of the highest or the highest uses of cell phones during driving.
Oh, and for the 80 mph thing, this would only be for roads in west Texas (remember, driving from side to side, it takes 16 hrs to do) and if Texas allowed such a thing to happen, we would lose federal funding. All of it for highway use. Not a good thing.
I do find it a bit sickening that we only go through 2 1/2 weeks of "training" to get a liscense. What's Germany's training like? Don't you have to pay a lot of Euros and take months of it, too? I wish America had that, too.
I will back up America with the fact that there are less crashes and crash-related deaths because 1.) there are less vehicles and usage of those vehicles in Europe, and 2.) there is a HUGE existing mass transit system in place in Europe (i.e. trains, buses, taxis etc.), unlike America and it's very low amount of transit systems in place (save large metros). America grew more outward than upward - which is the basis of almost every other nation's contruction plan. -

^Texas sure has some crazy drivers. People there regularly drive 15-20 miles above the speed limit, at least in Austin and San Antonio. I recall 3 or 4 near collisions which would have been severe.
If anybody ever designs a car built to not crash at all, don't use Microsoft software.Edited by Ge-Ride, 01 June 2006 - 09:48 PM.

i wasn't trained at all to drive. my dad taught me on a dirt road near a catfish restaurant. i haven't had a wreck since i got my licence. i did hit a parked car when i had a permit.
i will say that while nate's way of thinking is a good one with the "how can anything be safe that is designed to withstand impacts?" (outside the box should be encouraged), such sweeping and quixotic ideas for changing a huge system like transportation are just that. sweeping and hopelessly ideal. so the way to compensate is to make things that when hit, you will be able to get out of them alive. not a bad compromise i think. i want to live.
i dunno. i guess when i hear something about change i want to see it work and be able to be implemented. i guess silent protest isn't with me. -

Minority Report. I liked that system. They do have something like that in Japan, sort of. I think. -

Yes, there is one operating maglev in Japan. The system in Minority Report only seems to be for major cities. -

Interesting article. Lots of American drivers would fail the driving test if they took it again.
Take the test itself here:
http://www.gmacinsur...feDriving/2006/
And post your scores. I got a three wrong. 3, 12, and 14. For 3, I could have sworn the answer I put was what was right on my permit test. Oh well. I feel like I should have done better, although 14 was a stupid mistake because I didn't read, and 12 sorta sounds subjective.I always overthink these things.

So that isn't speed, it is improper maintainence and racing.lazyboy speed becomes a problem when you get people that still has a car from before 1990 that has seen much better days and they try to push it on a highway; they cant keep it straight and weave in and out of their lane. and then you have the mexicans that go 30 on the freeway and the ones that think they are hot shit and try to race everyone(though it is pretty funny to see them get arrested when the cops find out they are aliens). and yes mantis mexicans are the worst drivers most asians and indians are ok but mexicans are either really slow or are trying to cause accidents.

Tried it aswell and got 95%.
Was wrong on question 15, but that was only because we have a similar sign over here with a different meaning. (Here it means less space between lines ahead.)
This test is ridiculous easy. That's just the basics everybody should know when driving. There are many other things you have to know aswell .... -

I have been in 3 road accidents. One in a car and 2 in a bus (got whiplash in one due to no seatbelt) so i guess that's kinda evidence against your theory Nate, though some of the points you brought up i do agree with. Good topic.
I got 70%, not bad for an English kid.
