All I know that when I first downloaded RoB, I had no idea who he was and I wasn't even a member of the site yet. So his name had nothing to do with amazing me. Like Panic said, it wasn't one individual aspect, it was the combination of excellent layout, rides, landscaping, and composition. And even though some people have produced fancier buildings, or better coasters, no one has even come close to RoB yet in overall quality. I'd say IC is pretty damn close to achieving that in a modern way, but RoB is still on a higher level. -

Not to be an LL lobbyist suddenly turned RCT2 lobbyist or anything, but I do think it's a shame that RCT2 gameplay has seemed to have only one pinnacle (RoB) thus far, never afterwards surpassed except maybe like Rift Valley, whereas LL had so many. I kind of hope that great RCT2 parks that could possibly unseat RoB are still being made (IC actually comes closer than I remembered) and that sheer respect for that park won't lead people to dare not surpass it. It could become like the Legends West of RCT2 or something, I dunno.Edited by Panic, 29 May 2006 - 01:30 AM.

I think if I was making something better than RoB i'd damn well make sure people saw it. -

Not to blow my own trumpet or anything, but I was damn happy with how close IC came. I'd honestly put IC second to RoB in that genre of parks.
And I didn't aim for second best, no-one does that. I just didn't quite make it. -

IC is a hell of a park and I think it vs. RoB is a matter of personal preference. Personally I think it could have used more coaster action but that's just me.
Although in a lot of ways, I do think the reason RoB still stands out from most RCT2 parks is because of the great coaster lineup. I think a park that will beat RoB needs coasters that people will remember for years after, such as an Eversio Lemuria. The coasters in the RCT2 parks that (IMO) have come close have usually been great but that uncanny memorable factor has been missing. It's hard to explain.
edit: This may seem weird, but in my opinion perhaps the RCT2 park that has come closest to RoB, perhaps as much as IC or even more, is Euroscape. I know it's unrefined and everything and not pretty on the microcosmic scale, but its sheer expansiveness is almost unrivalled, Taurus is a masterpiece and the other coasters are great, and it's just so much fun to explore. It brings back the days when everyone wasn't so worried about perfect minute details and made stuff more out of the sheer fun of parkmaking.Edited by Panic, 29 May 2006 - 05:05 AM.

Out of all of ROB's coasters only Lemuria is "Unbelievable"....The woodie is very good, The Drachen Fire rec is decent (Its very slow), and the Flyer is above average (First half is very slow, second half is ridiculous). The Suspended is great also however.
My point is, ROB only has 2 amazing coasters, with the rest being decent or above average. -

I don't think IC had any amazing coasters, though. That's the defining difference. No offense Steve.
Fatha, I liked my woody! -

i don't mean to sound bitter, but I really didn't like it; mainly the over use of brake runs and too much dependance on the terrain.
lotus is realistic, I'm sure if somebody made tatsu two years ago they would think the same thing about the pacing but that's a huge quality of the b&m flyers, they are paced much slower in flying position because of the way the riders are positioned. -

The pacing on Lotus while realistic is still poor imo....both halfs are so drastically different that the ride itself does not seem to flow. And I didn't like the woodie for the same reason you did....the brake runs killed it. The terrain use was cool however. -

i have to jump in here and say that rivers of babylon was, at least for me, the greatest and most influential park in all of my work. i think phatage pretty much outlined it importance best. it's pretty much the layout of the entire park. every building was placed immaculately and it all results in a seemless flow throughout the park that people have been [unsuccessfully] trying to imitate since. also eversio is the greatest coaster of all time. and that entrance is absolutely perfect. and that rapids is the greatest most-imitated in RCT2 history. i could go on forever.
he, and that park, are definitely not overrated though.Edited by metalface, 30 May 2006 - 05:21 PM.

Well, IMO Poseidon's Rage is the greatest coaster of all time.
I think Eversio is merely an extension into RCT2 of a long line of great LL Beemers that don't seem to get enough attention these days in comparison to it. It's like the tip of the iceberg. It's probably the best of that line and was the only RCT2 one at its time, but there are a lot of them that are ALMOST as good. When I look at Eversio I see those coasters in it, and the sense of it being truly exceptional gets kind of diminished. -

Meh Spitfire was a good layout but it was far from the whole-experience provided by RESIDENT EVIL.
Also El Ranchero. -
