Congrats Steve. I just got mine about half a year ago and well, actually now that I think about it I haven't really had much need for it yet. Oh well, at least there's no harm in having one. -

I don't think you can call it driving without it being manual. Where's the fun in automatics?! -

I'll tell you why I prefer manuals.
You have less speed control over the car with an automatic. They particularly suck in winter weather because you can't maitain lower gear with a fucking idiot computer shifting for you. I also hate how automatics are always going forward when your foot is not on the brake (unless you use neutral and I don't). Automatics totally take away your "feel" of the engine that I'm accustomed too. Also, when it comes to a sport cars (which I will own one day), automatics are not available nonetheless pointless.
Bottomline, automatics are ghetto. The only thing useful about them are they allow the driver more freedom, which for me, sucks unless you are using a cell phone, looking at a map or something. I usually feel bored driving automatics.
The absolute shittiest automatic I've ever driven is a Kia Rio. I might as well have been driving a fucking Korean golf cart with turn signals. -

Oh and if your vehicle is almost as old as you are and is an automatic sometimes it gets stuck in second gear and shifts no further. -

What year is your Jeep, Jelly? '88?
And I don't know - personally I like the freedom of automatics. Who wants the hassle of a manual? Besides, cars aren't really meant to entertain you, you know (for those saying it's 'no fun', mantis). -

91. Close enough.
And Manuals are more fun, and cars are meant to entertain. Sometimes. -

oh you mean your left/right hand is avaliable for other uses!
i always giggle at the sound an automatic makes when changing gears!
Anyways congrats on the passing, an automobile gives you so much freedom from parents!Edited by petrov, 08 April 2006 - 05:53 AM.

Ever been stuck in a traffic jam driving a manual transmission? I'm not talking about one where you keep moving at a slow rate, I'm talking about one where you stop, drive a few feet, stop, drive a feet, stop ... And your stops don't last much more than a few seconds. Now think about doing this driving up a hill.^tis true

Oh, keeping the clutch pressed when stopped also causes it to burn out quicker. Using it to keep you from rolling backwards down a hill is even worse on it. -

Yeah, Rohn Starr. That is the only thing I have to complain about when driving my stick shift.
