Here are the first photos i've taken with my new Nikon P5100
The trip to Geneva was to celebrate New years & My best mates 21st Birthday.
The house we stayed in
A table in the garden

Some of the gang
Some slime lol
Something in the garden?
The compression doesn't do some of the photos justice but they are all 12mp and straight off the camera. -

Nice to see you went with the Nikon. Image quality seems to be great. Can you sent me that last shot on full resolution out of the cam? Really want to see what the P5100 can do.
Looking forward to your future pictures out of that camera. -

Shame you didn't get those in the shot, or a separate pic. Wood carvings are always great to look at, i imagine those would be fine pieces of work.It is a slice of trunk held up by four elephants carved out of wood. Trust me.

A shot I took for my photography class. In the project we had to take pictures based of off pictorialist photography from the 20s and 30s. For this I covered my lens in vaseline and shot this picture. It's of a hallway at school, you can see the lights going down the hallway, and some of the pipes on the ceiling. It's revealed because of construction.
I took this early this week using a small small aperture and a long shutter speed. This wasn't on purpose, I just thought I take a picture of my friend and it came out really good.Edited by sixflagsfreak56, 10 January 2008 - 07:47 PM.

What class is that exactly? and what are you supposed to do?
Photography is more than a great camera and those pictures you are showing are more than snapshots. However there is still a long way to go.
Using the vaseline technique is nice to see. I really want to do that one day, but will wait until I can waste my old lenses on it.
The problem you got there is that the picture does not really create this long and lonely corridor atmosphere which is mostly because of too much vaseline and lines ending in the middle of nowhere. Read some books about the effect of lines and you work will get a lot better.
Also the picture might turn out a lot better in a subway like setting. You got the same line of lights there but a lot more details which can add to the atmosphere. Also think about less warmer colours. The rather strong grain fits in perfectly.
The second picture however is no more than a snapshot in my opinion. Creating a busy look by using long shutter speeds is a well know technique which I like a lot, but looks overdone here. The setting for the picture could be a lot more interesting in order to give the viewer more to look at and think about.
Apart from that the post processing needs a lot more work. Having huge dark areas in a picture is no big problem to me, but at least some details there would have been good. The tonal value break between hair and sky looks horrible, almost like cut out. You should also consider adding parts of the face to the shot instead of only showing his hair. That again would be something for the viewer to concentrate on.
The combination of long shutter speed and b&w fits really well together.
Good luck with your photography class. Looking forward to some more of your shots,

This is just Photo 1 in my school, and these are just some of the projects. we did.
On a side note, I forgot to mention that I didn't actually cover my lens with vaseline, I put clear wrap on it and then put a rubber band to hold it in place and put the vaseline on it.
Thanks for the construction criticism. -

Here's some more I took for the class. Our objective was to "fill the frame".
My favorite of the three:

Kyle, Your photos are comming out very nice, but a bit grainy. Set your ISO at a slower speed to avoid the grainy-ness. -

Grain does not have to be a bad thing and certainly is something less important in photography. However, can't say a lot about the pictures.
Rule of thirds might be interesting for you. Golden section aswell. -

You got some problems with chromatic abberation in that shot, which is quite normal for high contrasts. Should be easy to fix with the one or other GIMP or Photoshop filter.
The strong branch on the left is too dominant, especially because the line doesn't lead the viewer into the picture. I can imagine this would look at lot better in portrait mode with a path between the trees, which would also underline the misty weather and give the viewer a line to focus on.
Snow and trees are really hard to master in my opinion, especially without a clear blue sky. This is an interesting start.
Wish I had the chance to take some pictures with snow, but therefore the winter was way too warm.
