    Memory Lane by Kumba

There aren't many parkmakers at the site left that have the same enthusiasm, talent, and consistency that Kumba has for his parkmaking, that's unquestionable. Unfortunately for him, sometimes his idea's can get the best of him and his decision making has held him back from becoming one of the top tier NE Parkmakers. We saw this firsthand as last year he sold himself just a tad short in the first Pro Tour with 'Darwood Grove', which paired two great themed areas with two creative, yet poorly executed ones holding him back just enough to surrender parkmaker status to both Slob and John instead. He screwed himself again in the QFTB-X after a strong showing with "The Following", he followed that up against Corkscrewed with a half-assed entry with hacking problems that gave Cork the extremely easy win, proving Kumba was not yet in the same league. In H2H3, more of the same...as after months of trashtalking came back to bite him in the ass as ride6 humiliated Kumba's creative-but-frantic "The Day After Tomorrowland", looking like space aged throw up in terms of aesthetics. Finally, he released "Bayfront Parc", his biggest and most ambitious project, a full fledged park featuring several insanely creative themed areas that would have pushed for Spotlight had he not decided to throw together an everglades section in two days and ruin the entire park. Which brings us to today and wouldn't you know it, Kumba yet again proves he's no match for the best parkmakers at the site. After last year's impressive performance you'd expect Kumba to come with something aspiring and daring, but instead he shoots himself in the foot again with the most half-assed Pro Tour entry of all time. Kumba seems satisfied with his status at New Element but he'll forever go down in the books as the parkmaker who was 'almost great'...in other words, disappointing, in the class of forgotten parkmakers along the way like Jesse, Hyper Helix, or Blind Guardian. All in all, a somewhat cool idea...but wrong place, wrong time. Kumba's life story at NE.

    It begins!

I had a blast judging the entries, thankyou to everyone who submitted one, and sorry I didn't.

I respect him for being original. After all, that's what I do, and I think that Kumba had fun making it. Your solo park had better be great, now. But come on, eleven game years? You spent more time on your Genus Carcharodon coaster then you did in a contest with a hundred dollars on the line!

I loved it Kumba, I've looked at all your old parks and it has shown how far you've come. Unfortunately it didn't show the present, with things like genus whatever and the crimson corkscrew coaster, but all your entries never fail to make me laugh.

btw can we get a thread for park #15, seriously, as without it and the people behind the pt this all wouldn't be possible? Thanks.
  • Toon%s's Photo
Honestly, I respect him for submitting something even tho he knew it was destined to finish at the bottom. I guess when you're egos that big it can afford to take a hit now and then. :p

Ok, on a serious note. This was a great, but very difficult contest to judge. Advance congrats to all the parkmakers who made the effort to enter. I know it's always nice to come back and find the site still going after a long absence and without the PT and the effort of the parkmakers who put the time in, that might not be the case. So cheers to another PT and hoping that there are more in our future!

Oh yeah...you should all have some time now to do some solos, so get building!

Well I did this coz I had always wanted too. As you can see my goal was only to enjoy myself like, like for Parkmakerz! in H2H3. As a result you get the same style, one that is what it is, I was not trying to make it good. I think the end result is a funny park and like always not many details were spared, some are pretty cool infact, but I will admit the entry area was ment to really suck :p

As for iris's comments why do you say that like im retireing or something? I still got a lot left in me, but yes looking back I have shot myself in the foot a lot, that is ture, but those days are over as of today and you will see that in my solo (new update this weekend btw) and my admin wars collabo area/s

Props to hobbes for getting it up and working without the aid of viagra and to Cork for that logo, you been doing good ones for me lately like with Genus:Carcharadon :)

P.S. For some reason I get errors when I try to open its page both on Internet Exploer and AOL :<img src=:' /> The good news is I have a copy ;)

I will now brace for comments...

Kinda reminded me of BOMB, actually...

It's really nice, IMHO. Lots of little details (I like the dino diplomacy thing... hilarious)

So, if this was at the bottom, we can expect some good entries, I guess.

Kumba, when you said you'd get last I highly doubted it. Really you've progressed too far for such nonsense. *shakes head* Well at least I easily achieved one of my goals; beating your sorry ass (again). What's amazing is that I've tracked you pretty much form the beginning but didn't really like you until the IWV/ Tiumba: TLI time period. Before that I really saw through you stuff even thout mine sucked just as much (if not more at the time). Cool entry, very fun but a bit oversimplified, even though you hit the "big" moments... If it was lack of quantity that held this back at last I have little to worry about but if it was the quality I'm shivering in my boots because my entry won't be far off...

Works in my IE. But I use Firefox, as should you.
I've downloaded, and I'm preparing to look. Comments later.

    Edit:
Well Kumba, your style of parkmaking is truely unique, but frankly, I'm getting a bit bothered by it. While it can have it's humor, and it is always entertaining and creative, I fail to recognize any actual artistic nature that compells me to continue looking at it.

That said, this was by no means a "bad" entry. As others have said, it is quite obviously not enough actual work to get a good position in such an elite competition as the ProTour is. The quality was there, in places at least, but there just wasn't enough of it. As Toon said, you're a brave guy submitting this, not only because it probably was destined for the last place position, but also because of the bold style you've become known to have.
So while I don't necessarily enjoy every aspect of your parks, I certainly respect the fact that you can create them to be recognizably your own.

Looking forward to the rest of the competition, as this was a promising beginning to what appears to be a promising competition.

Thanks iris, Corky, Kumba, and others for trusting me with this task.
I enjoyed working for the site, and hopefully I'll be able to be of service onwards into the future.

^ lmao at your failed disguised text there, ride6.
Thanks for the comment about bowing, though that's not necessary. Grovelling will do.

I've done ride6 the favor of correcting his failed disguised text for him. ;)

I'll have more detailed comments later, since it's dinnertime.

i was a little dissapointed, to tell you the truth. i had really been looking forward to your entry, Kumba, especially since G:C. like someone else said, it was a good idea, just poor execution. but the good thing is that you had fun with it, and that's what matters.

can't wait to see the rest of the entries.
  • Xcoaster%s's Photo
Yay, it has begun. I saw the banner at the top of the screen changing, so I scooted on over to the PT2 page. I really like what you guys did for the page for the workbench.

Anyways, as far as Kumba's park. Honestly, I wasn't sure if you were serious about that you felt your entry was going to do badly, but I figured if you were, you must have had a good reason. Which we can now see you did, as it's obvious that the small size of the park meant an almost instant last place for it. But even so, I found the park really fun. It was a little weird, but there were a lot of quirky little banners and details that made it really enjoyable. Plus, the progression of it and the banners throughout almost made it seem narrated while looking at it. So, though it may not have been worthy of placing really high because of its size and just being a rehash of your earlier parks (though that's the point, so I don't think it's a really bad thing, just something that keeps the originality down a bit), in my opinion it's a great start to the contest. I figure if you knew you were probably going to get last place, at least the park was fun, and I'm sure you had a lot of fun making it. I'd much rather have this than an average park that takes up more of the map, but isn't really noteworthy at all.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I'm happier with the actual judge line-up than with what I thought we were getting.
    EDITx2: Thanks, hobbes!!!

    Take that back! ;)

Kumba! It's great as always to see work from you and to laugh and laugh. I really like a lot of the cute little details in this, even if nothing has anything to do with anything 20 ft away from it.

This park is the RCT equivalent of the talented but really drunk guy at the karaoke bar: it's really fun to watch and you can tell he can sing if he puts his mind to it, but you hope that's never you in that position.

And oh yeah, big thanks to I and C and h and anyone else who had a hand in getting this going. Some nice surprises in the judging pool too!

Haha, nice idea Kumba. Totally not the kinda thing I would send into the Pro Tour but I can see that you fully intended not to get far in it.

As for the actual park, I particularly liked the idea of putting all of the coasters you had in BP into one, that was really cool. And I liked the "I like it so fuck off" sign. Nice, lol. The talking dinosaurs were a funny idea too.

Really looking forward to your creation park, that will be cool to see, I just hope you don't spoil it with one section :p

    Well done

It really shows how much you have improved, its a good idea for a park aswell, and the coaster at the 'end' is pretty cool. Its pretty nice, however there is just not that much there. Looking forward to KC though!

I liked it, nice idea actually. I really recognised much things from a long time ago. I liked to coaster around the park with so much speed. Well done Kumba, great start of the pro tour. :)

Looking forward to the other parks.

HandyAndy - It took longer then 11 RCT years I think, but hacking can set the date back.

Phatage - I am very happy to hear you find my parks funny, its not something I force, its just part of my personality.

Toon - Thx, nice to see I did not get a 100% Tooning to your last place rateing even after I moved your pasta house to hell ;)

ACefanitic02 - I think that was also my fav joke, along with the Red Ram stall selling dirt and the mouse traps about to fall on Jacko Shanty's head. :)

ride6 - Why not stop talking and we go 1 on 1 QFTB-X style? Id put my solo on hold to personaly own you

hobbes - Belive it or not in my upcoming work I am focusing parts on artistic nature, well as I see it to be, but I think you may like that.

tracidEdge - This is one of the ways I have fun, the other is by making the coolest visions in my head into stuff in RCT and you guys seem to prefer that.

Xcoaster - Glad you picked up on the banners, tho the best are the smaller scrolling ones imo...

cBass - lmao, great anlogy, and a big thx for creating the blank space tile witch I did use a few times...

Metro - The BP coaster is sorta neat, but I compleatly forget to build an exit for it :X

X250 - I agree, but I could have done more, just I wanted to end with BP coz its my biggest achivment yet, so thats why you did not see C:G, Crimson bullet or a KC preview area, ect...

Keep the comments coming, more mite make the next park come sooner... or not, but it can't hurt :birthday:
