Wow. Unexpected. I can't believe Crash is nominated for best picture. It's a good movie, but flawed.
I still can't get over Kiera Knightly being nominated for Best Actress. I really can't say anything though, I haven't seen Pride and Prejudice.
Who do I want to win?
My picks:
Picture: Brokeback Mountain (still can't believe Hustle & Flow wasn't nominated... and CRASH AND MUNICH WERE!)
Directing: Ang Lee
Actor: Hoffman or Howard. I'd really like to see Terrence Howard win it. Phenomenal in Hustle and Flow.
Actress: Huffman or Witherspoon. God, they were both so wonderful in their roles. I'd like to see Witherspoon take it though.
Supporting Actor: Paul Giamatti is fantastic in Cinderella Man!! HE NEEDS TO WIN THIS. It'll most likely go to Clooney though... bah..
Supporting Actress: Amy Adams in Junebug or Michelle Williams for Brokeback. I'll be happy with either one.
Adapted Screenplay: Capote
Original Screenplay: Squid and the Whale
I'll post more later. g2g for now.

Whether or not Brokeback deserves Best Picture as a movie, Hollywood will take the chance to use it as a political statement and it will win. Voting for it will be the chic thing to do. -

Geoff's picks were about the same as mine (although I had Brokeback for best adaptation). I think Brokeback deserves best picture...granted I did not see Good Night, and Good Luck...but from the other films nominated, Brokeback would be my choice, followed closely by Capote.
I thought Crash was terribly boring and exaggerated. I barely remember anything about it, except being unimpressed.Edited by supertrooper, 31 January 2006 - 04:56 PM.

I think it'd be hilarious if Capote totally swept everything, thereby leaning all Brokeback fans stunned.
The comedy would be in the unexpectedness of it all, I guess. Like a dark horse who comes and destroys you. -

Are you implying something by your darkhorse comment, Corkscrewed? I've got my eye on you. I think you're rigging that contest and I'm going to get to the bottom of this... -

Regardless of anything else it's nominated for, I think Brokeback ought to win Ang Lee the best director Oscar. It was beautiful. -
