I know barely anyone uses the "ask the experts" forum.
But why not be a trendsetter, I always say!! -

It sure requires lots of spare time. What I do is envision the look on somebody's face when they see me make a great park. You have to picture your park. If it feels interesting, it probably is. Translate your vision from your mind to the game. When you make your park, you are just communicating your vision. All it takes is one spark to start a fire. Every time I go somewhere, I get a crazy idea for a theme park. Maybe I'm just unique that way.Edited by HandyAndyG, 15 January 2006 - 09:44 PM.

Like Master Jay said, Imagination and Patience are the two greatest qualities in my opinion that you need to possess to finish such an endeavor. I know I myself might not seem as valid in saying that, but after over a year's of work, my solo is almost complete and it feels great. I'm sure if you asked Fatha', Turtle, SA, or any of the "greats" they'd give a similar answer. -

Another thing is to NOT expect any of it to happen overnight. I'll take weeks for areas to come to gather and many times months or even years to actually finish a full size (125^2 or larger) park. (Just look a WDE)
Basically it takes lots of time and the vision and patence to use it.

i couldn't have worded it better. very impressive.
i really think this "imagine your park in real life then think how it could be pulled off in rct" approach is really the key for me at the moment.
then, it takes practice, really. rome wasn't built in a day, applies ultimatively to this game. -

You know, you need all three primary skills; patience, imagination, skills to create the ultimate park. Me, I have skills and imagination, but im so inpatient that I rarely release anything, most of my releases are scrappy competition designs and the odd park here and there.
The thing about painting the picture in your head is spot on IMO. That said, does anybody else sort of draw coasters in their head? I always find myself day dreaming about coaster designs. What makes it worse is when I translate the ideas to the game they work down to a T, even the speed I imagine the coaster to be traveling is sort of right. Scary! -

I always do that at school, then scribble down the design because i know i'll forget it by the time i get home. same with planning out anything, really. -

The most important factor is time and patience I think. Even though you're very skilled it doesn't mean you can put down a brilliant park, it takes years to build one. Too many actually if you ask me, that's probably the reason why so many people fail to build one although they're caple of doing it.
Whithout skills you wont get very far of course but during the process of building a park you improve a lot so that comes naturally.
Just my thoughts -

you should ask the makers of certain parks personally, because when you ask for stuff like this on the forums people that have no idea what they're talking about will try and answer your question anyways. -

You need the Iron Will of a Ferocious Tiger.
And of course it helps if you have skillz YO. -

Depending on how you build, yeah, it can take years to build.
BGSS has been in the works for at least a year, and I know Cork's WDE has been going for several... and it's STILL not done.

its one thing to toss together a park within a couple days/weeks etc. but it is completely another thing to construct a park with the right mind set. Why take scenery and toss together detailed buildings and filler to make a "nice park" when you can spend time to make a park more satisfactory for your pride and accomplishment when you form buildings. complete difference. take that into account when building. quality takes time. of course many people here draw it out over the course of quite some time which is really extensive. but hey, they come off as quality parks and its very appearant. -

ive been working on my park off and on for a long time... and ive still got a long way to go. i think to myself if i was a guest in the park, would i be impressed? people arent gonna like to see huge blank bare walls or completely flat land or terrible roller coasters. yeah but im not an expert so... whatever
