RCT Discussion / Help here

Okay, some of you (X250, Cedarpoint6, Artist) might remember me from the old CoasterForce (CF-INFO) forums. Well, I tried re-installing my RCT2 and every time, it freezes at around 22%-specifically at the "css8.dat" part. Does anybody know what can be causing this, as I want to show some of my works here (such as Athos) and, well, it's damn annoying!

    Thanks,
    Daniel (Dan)

Does it tell you a message about a CRC error? In that case your disc is just broke and in most cases you'll need a new one. RCT2 only costs 5 euros these days though.

No error...it just freezes. My CD Reader does whizz a lot when it gets to 22% though. Like a zip drive, almost...

Maybe the disk is broken; I don't know. It installed on my other computer (which isn't connected online). Odd.

In that case you might try cleaning your cdrom-drive (and cd). The disc could be scratched, but it can depends on how precize your drive is on how well it can read it. On my older computer my cd-writer was the more precize of the two which allowed me to read some disc which the other drive couldn't. However cleaning is your best try here.
  • Dan%s's Photo
Well, I will try that. See how that goes...maybe it is the disk. Meh, I will clean it.

Its probably what Tyandor said, give the disc a good clean because something similar happened to me before with LL. Its either that or there may be a corrupt file in the games data folder, but thats unlikely.

Ehh...how are your methods of cleaning? I don't think whiping it on my shirt isn't a good idea.

I ran a CD-ROM cleaner (CD with brushes sticking out of it) on my top CD-ROM-I use the bottom one for burning only- and it did not seem to solve the problem.

I then ran RCT2 on the bottom driver and around 22%, it gave me a error about "cyclic redudancy check" or something like that.

Personally, I don't want to buy another disk, as they come prepackaged with the expansions (Unless they are separate CD's).

What the hell is going on?

That's a CRC error. Usually related to a damaged disc. I can get the rct2only version easily at many stores for low prices. You can also download it, which is legal since you own it (right?) Requires broadband though
  • Dan%s's Photo
Makes more sense now; seeing how the disk does have a few scratches on it.

And yes, I own it (2 CD's in fact; the 1st was damaged also >_>). Can you please point me to a site where I can download it? (And no; PLEASE not Kazza. My machine has troubles already).

    Thanks,
    Dan

I PM-ed you. It learns you how to use the best program around: Bittorrent

Uhhh...is it possible to copy the game directly to a CD and install it from there? Would be simpler than downloading the files...o_O

    How do you mean that?
First copy the files from the cd to hd and then back to an empty cd?
Forget it, it won't work if your cd is f*cked up...

You can find the game in EdK2*00, E-M*le, Sharea*a, Be*rshare etc...
It isn't that difficult to find it...

It works on my other computer. Hence why I can copy it.

My other PC is not connected online. Hence the copying.

You could try that. RCT2 easily backs up by the lack of a decent copy protection.
  • marinersfan59%s's Photo
you could also try the toothpaste trick as a last resort.

    ^Explain, please.

Okay, I am installing the game and is giving me problems with "css8.dat."

    The error message:
"CRC error. The file f\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Rollercoaster Tycoon 2\Data\css8.dat doesn't match the file in the setup's cab file. The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted; contact your software vendor."

Is this the typical CRC error? I got a different one last time around. Also, what is css8.dat? If someone can send me the actual file, that would be nice.

    Dan

EDIT: Okay, the fucking message is occuring during ALL of the cab files. What should I do BESIDES the method Tyandor told me. Because I am using that as a last resort.

Oh great; I got tbe game installed, and it was working for 3 days and now it won't run. No error message; it won't start.

You get that spinning disc icon perchance?
Anyway, you might try a no-cd crack. It helped me when I couldn't run rct2 just after I bought it. The benefit is that you don't need the disc anymore to play which is great for preserving your expensive discs and you don't have to change disc for every game anymore.
You can get one here: http://www.megagames...l/c906710_0.htm
Megagames is a trustable site btw.
One of the upper two will be fine I believe. There isn't any crack that works with Time Twisters though (no problem with WW though) but I personally don't care about that :)

Actually, my hard disk died. That is why.

It's fixed now, but I will have to go through everything again...
