DOUBLE FEATURE!!!!!!!
The Rules of Attraction
Bret Easton Ellis has the midas touch so I knew the story would be good at least. The adaptation was gimmicky at times (the opening scene which keeps reversing is saved only for the brilliantly self-referencial "I feel my life lacks forward momentum), but it has one of the most mind-blowing and amazing scenes I've ever seen: A three minute recap of some dude's trip through Europe told at a dizzyingly fast pace. It's enough to make your brain explode.
Before Sunset
Warms my black little heart so it does. The transition from improv to script is awkward at times, but other than that, this is fucking perfect. Let's talk about his book idea though! I wrote a short-story awhile back based on the exact same concept. Sadly it wasn't anywhere near as cleverly realised. Consider this: If time is a lie and everything is happening at once, then that night lasted forever.
DUDE. THIS IS BLOWING MY MIND. -

Another bit about this movie I want to mention. When whatsferface is getting raped at the very beginning of the movie, her voice-over says, "Great. I lost my virginity to a townie". This is one of the greatest lines in cinematic history.Edited by catachresistant, 24 March 2006 - 10:47 PM.

Just got back from Failure to Launch. It was alright, some funny parts in it. -

I guess that is what happens when you have the attention span of a 12 year old.
Yeah, it's definitely not what happens when somebody just doesn't enjoy the story.
Anyways, saw American History X pretty recently (about the kid who grows up as the younger brother of a white supremacist). Very, VERY good, it's got a story that opens your eyes to a lot of stuff, plus it's well written and directed.
In my top 10 now. -

I just saw Princess Mononoke again on Cartoon Network. Pretty good, definitely the most adult oriented of the Miyazaki films I've seen, but not my favorite. Probably around my fourth 4th favorite of the 7.5 (I think) that I've seen by him. Which is still pretty good, since I really like all his films. I did have fun noticing what seemed like Christian thematic elements this time, though it was probably a bit of a reach, especially considering that it's anime.
...
It seems like I only watch Ghibli films, huh? I'm just taking advantage of the month long showing of them on Cartoon Network, since I missed it when they were showing them on TCM. Next Saturday is Laputa.
Hopefully I'll get to see V for Vendetta in the next few days. Break up the whole Ghibli cycle a bit. -

I would watch all the Ghibli movies over and over if I could, but I can't afford DVDs, don't have Cartoon Network and have a crap computer that can't play videos properly. Woe is me
Mononoke Hima is probably my favourite, actually. It's just so beautiful.
The last movie I saw was probably Nochnoi Dozor (Night Watch), which I finally had a chance to see last weekend. Liked it a lot: reminded me of when I first saw The Matrix, but perhaps even better. Loved the whole feel of the movie, but maybe that's partly just because Slavic languages are the best languages ever. I heard the sequel, Dnevnoy Dozor, has already been released in Russia, so I'm eagerly awaiting that. -

That 3-minute Euro thing is fucking awesome. I still remember being in complete shock for about 20 minutes after seeing it. Fuck it, its worth buying that film on DVD just for those 3 minutes. -

The Hills Have Eyes-
The only movie I've ever walked out of right in the middle. Too graphic, and pointlessly so, for my tastes... bye-bye, $8. -

I just saw Red Eye. It was WAY better than all of Wes Craven's other crappy movies. It wasn't really a good scary movie, but it was pretty cool to watch.Edited by Ruiz, 26 March 2006 - 07:42 PM.
