General Chat / Last Movie You Saw?

Juno - On my quest for more Jason Reitman, decided to watch this for the first time, I don't really have much to say on this one other than that it was good. It was smart, funny, and just charming in general. Ellen Page was excellent, and it was fun to see her first big performance. Definitely want to see it again. 9/10

I also am quite ready for Harry Potter. I love the books so I tend to be a bit more critical of the movies, but I've heard lots of good things so far, mostly that it was a great wrap up to the franchise and it was probably the best film yet.

Battle: Los Angeles - cool action scenes, and I liked the fact that it only portrayed the battle in Los Angeles specifically and didn't get too much into other locations. However the plot itself was pretty minimal; the characters were all two dimensional and all the emotional ties were just too overdone for this kind of movie.

Up in the Air - generally liked it. Must've been George Clooney day on HBO, so I was kinda getting tired of him at this point. Adding to the ending argument, I think it fit in perfectly too. At a point earlier in the movie someone (I think that girl) mentioned that if she had all the free miles, she would look at the departure board and go wherever she wanted that day. And that's what he did at the end, not going back to the life he had before.

Super 8 was solid and very entertaining through out.

just saw Horrible Bosses tonight and its probably the summers best comedy by a long shot, i recommend it

Yeah, I mean, 0 car chases, how can it be a good movie if you don't have one of those?
  • chorkiel%s's Photo
    ^finally someone who gets me ! ;)
No, it's not like the lack of action is the only thing I disliked about it.
I'm not saying you can't like it, I just didn't like it.

im a sucker for movies placed in an older age, maybe that's why i enjoyed it so much. plus the acting was superb along with the storyline itself

Memento - Engaging, original, mysterious, complex, this movie has a fragmented story structure that was brilliantly executed. Even when the movie is done there's still so much to think about. As long as you can get past the first 10 minutes of confusion, you'll love it.
    10/10

Source Code - Excellent. Almost like a combo of The Matrix, Deja Vu, and Vantage Point. All of which are movies I really like. The ending was cool and left you thinking too.

^That was a good movie. The really super-duper happy ass ending kind of threw me off though.

Fuck movies...we got another high-speed chase in SoCal :p Been watchin this for a couple hours now. The acting is non-existent but the plot gets better by the minute. An attempted DUI stop that turned out to be someone on felony parole with this being his 3rd strike. If he comes down the 405 by us, I'm going to the bridge at Bear St. (by South Coast Plaza) with water balloons
    Stay tuned.....

Edit@ 10:33PM: apparently he has a female passenger that has made a few calls telling anyone that will listen that the guy has told her that he's simply not going to stop for anything since he's facing a pretty serious amount of prison time no matter how this ends.

10:46PM The plot thickens....news is now telling people that they might want to put children to bed (a parental advisory of sorts) because the car has to be running low on fuel and they're worried about what might be seen on live coverage. Man, this is the best chase in a long time :mantis:

Edit:11:14 The worst 'ending' ever. Cocksucker went up the 5 into nowhereland and the copters apparently couldn't follow him any more because of the terrain and complete darkness....so all of the coverage came to an abrupt, simultaneous end.

I just lost my boner and I need another drink.

BUT, on a high note...they assured us that they'd clue us in on the outcome on the morning news. Like I'm gonna fucking be up for that.

    Fuck.

    1408 and Insidious.

Very interesting psycho thriller and a crappy horror flick. Excellent night for movies.

^a good film with Samuel L. Jackson that is NOT Pulp Fiction? Who'd a thunk it?

Watched Frost/Nixon yesterday. And then the original interviews afterwards. Langella was a better Nixon than Nixon.

Sooo anyone see the last Potter film? I thought it brought a good sense of closure to the series. I know it sounds stupid to some but I'm sad it's over, having grown up with the books since they first came out. I wonder if any book/movie series has ever captivated a generation so much. It's been fun watching the characters (both in the books and the actors) mature, with the tone of the series getting darker and the themes getting deeper. A lot of people hate on HP but for those of us with imagination and who aren't ashamed to bring out their inner-child, it's such a treat.

Edit: Oh yeah, Super 8 was great too. :mantis:
