In celebration of our great nation and all it stands for one of my friends held a Team America viewing party the other night.  That movie is brilliant.

Just got back from Dead Man's Chest. It was alright. Not bad, not great, but alright. Good, I guess. The kraken was cool. The movie reminded me of Monkey Island even more this time. The ending gives me more hope for the next sequel. Anyways, the first of the two main problems was that it suffered from sequelitis in that it just lacked some originality, seen especially in how it had to have every character from the first movie make a cameo, and how it made a point to beat any humor found in the previous movie to a bloody and sad death. Please, mention the rum joke again. No, you didn't kill it the last fifty times. Go on. Okay, maybe it wasn't that bad, but it still lacked the originality of the first one. A few more original jokes couldn't have hurt. The second problem was that it just seemed overdone, in most respects. I'll probably post a longer review tomorrow (an edit, maybe, since this is already getting a little thick), but a quick word of warning. There is yet another short clip after the incredibly long credits. I was curious and stayed and watched. Don't. It's dumb as hell. The dog becomes king of the cannibals. That is all.

Oh, and one disclaimer. Any negative attitude is probably at least partially attributed to the fact that I was fairly tired while watching it. So maybe I need to watch it in the afternoon before I can judge it more fairly. Still, you probably don't want to stay for after the credits.

^I saw it the same time as you and thought it was great. The rum joke WAS used a little much though. :)

I was entertained and that's what i paid for.

I hate all these 'critics' damning the film for having overblown effects and a plot that fades in and out......it's a bloody popcorn flick! We don't want to sit there and think about it, we want action!

However having said that i did have some qualms with it. For one it didn't get off to a great start (compared to the first). There were some familiar faces that didn't really need to be there and they did rape some of the gags to submission.........

but they don't weigh it down too much and i thoroughly enjoyed it and will more then likely go again.

Saw DMC (hehe). Great movie. Lots of sub plots for the film to not dwell and moan to long on the main plot very nergetic and I was pleased that Verbinski moved though all of them at the perfect pace. Effect were fantastic, ranging from Jones' tentacles to the tentacles of the Kraken itself. I know people would say, "Hey, this movie doesn't have the greatest acting in the world," but in this instance, I wouldn't care too much for award-winning scenes and such because that was not the point of the movie. I know the rum jokes were a bit numerous, but I felt that if you took a lighthearted look at the movie, they wouldn't get to you. I've read a critic or two's reviews and many of them say this was par with the first, but didn't mean it was a fantastic film. Honestly, I think they're wrong for wanting to "feel" anything from this movie, for that was not its intended purpose. If they wanted to feel something, go watch The Devil Wears Prada or something like that. This movie was intended to entertain and it achieved above and beyond that with myself. It was very enjoyable for myself and I recommend people to see this with the intent on having fun, not to learn/feel/take something from it.

Oh, btw, Knightly is still hot in men's clothing.

^Me too. I liked it. It looked like they just decided to have a lot of fun with it. All the effects were great and I liked how they brought jokes from the first one to this one. If you see this, leave your brain at the door and enjoy the adventure. My only problem with it was that the story seemed a little stretched out with all the sub-plots and stuff. I also hate cliffhanger endings ;) .

My 6 and 7 year olds had trouble following the story. The sub-plots kind of went over their head. They still really enjoyed it. Especially the Jack Kabob.

    lol

That part still cracks me up.

You know, with all the sub-plots and such, it reminded me of some rts game or something with all their missions.

I saw POTC:DMC today and was kinda dissapointed. I loved the first one so I was extremely excited to see this but it wasnt nearly as good as the first. I just didnt think the plot was good, it seemed like it just never moved and there were too many dull parts. I loved the ending, it had the one thing that the first one had that made it so good.

    LOL
yeah, Dead Man's Chest kinda sucked, but it wasn't all that bad. However, at the end, I freaked out. "BARBOSA! W000000T!"
