I am subtly excited for this movie. I know it's going to be amazing and I can't wait to see it.

Does it disturb anyone else that this classic of American cinema is basically about validating beastiality? -

Because it's a big symbolic allegory for the white man holding down the black man. Peter Jackson doesn't care about black people. -

I just saw this movie, and thought it was fantastic. Definitely, not the best thing ever, but darn close. I was wonderfully surprised by Jack Black's performance. I was a little worried about how he'd do in this movie.
JP is at the top of his game, with the special effects. I was dissapointed though, by the amount of green screen stuff. When they were running amongst the dinosaurs, it was so fake and I became disinterested. The T-rex scene was absoloutely incredible though. Probably the best dinosaur/creature action sequence I have ever seen.
I highly recommend this movie. Although, not perfect, it is quite an achievement. The three hours flew by. Very exciting, and fun, but the sad stuff put a damper on everything.

JP? Certainly you mean PJ, unless this is intended a la Canadian/British/whatever dating conventions (today being 14/12/05)...
I've not seen this film...it does look amazing, though it is of course a modernization/rehash of the classic, meaning there's only so much you can do with a doomed Supersized gorilla. It seems (at a simple glance) to be the monster movie equivalent for the 00's that Titanic was for the 90's. A 3 hr tragic tale (that we know the ending of already), wrapped up in a fancy CG package...
I do plan on seeing it, though likely on video. Yea, video...the reality of having 2 kiddos...I actually just saw Goblet of Fire this afternoon (finally). It was good, and I'd rank it behind POA of the Potter flicks...maybe I just liked Cuaron's style better?
Anyways, Narnia with Di Linh later this month when her sister visits for New Years, and then V in March (wife or not).
Cheers to Kong on video someday, despite how it just won't be the same (admittedly so)...

Omg, the movie, I cannot say enough. It has been the most powerful piece of cinema I have ever seen. Brilliant.

The beginning kind of dragged, and I was worried about the casting of Jack Black at first, because his first few scenes just didn't seem right, but I shouldn't have been worried. The difference between Kong and Titanic was that because I knew the ending, Titanic wasn't that touching, while even though I knew the ending of King Kong, it was still incredibly gripping. A fantastic piece of filmmaking. There were some jumper moments but the really scary parts were when you first see the native girl and the bug part, and since I'd already seen the native girl in the trailer, the bug scene stands out in my mind.
Peter Jackson said recently that he'd like to go back and make another low budget horror film, but hopefully not too soon. I mean Jesus, the man cannot be stopped.Edited by Micool, 17 December 2005 - 02:48 AM.

WOW, amazing movie...
But just too long. Too repetitive... too many shots of the inner-workings of the ship, too many animal chases, too many girls Kong picks up looking for Ann, too much time of Kong swinging at airplanes... the movie could have been 30-45 minutes shorter, and it still would have been just as or even more effective and powerful. By the end, I cared, but I was just... so tired...
There were some INCREDIBLE individual moments, though... like when you see Ann in the window of the door, and when Ann is doing the scene on the ship in front of the sunset (ah, made me want to cry), the whole tribal people part was scary, thrilling, and hilarious all at the same time... the Kong-Ann interaction was amazing... then the third act of the movie (minus the previously-mentioned repetitiveness) was stunning.
I hope the DVD comes out with an un-extended version so I could enjoy it properly.
EDIT: And oh yeah! The acting was great... Naomi Watts deserves an Oscar nomination, and I wouldn't mind seeing Brody or Black getting a nod either.Edited by Valp, 17 December 2005 - 09:23 AM.

The bugs gave me nightmares. When the cook was being eaten by the slug things I nearly walked out; so intense. But still a great film. Black did surprise me being able to play such a serious role, yet I don't think I can ever take him seriously. He made a laugh a few times during the 3 hours and I'm sure the comedy wasn't intended. -

Steve. I seen one of those Slug things in Half-Life 2, I didn't know those shits were real... O.o -

I think that few people realise the genius of Jackson for casting Black for that part. You weren't supposed to take him serious, his character was a bloke an idiot blinded by his greed for making money. The casting was brilliant.
Steve, I agree, although I didn't have nightmares. That bug scene was incredibly powerful. I'm pretty sure most if not all of those bugs were all original creations, there might be a few parralells between HL2 and these bugs but not that much.
Another thing: the scenes where Ann was making Kong laugh and the skating rink scene were amazing. They broke my heart. I laughed and clapped along witht the laughter scene and there was an undeniable warmth in my heart during the icerink scene. I never wanted it to end.
Also, Steve, I do believe that was supposed to be some comedy intended, you cannot have an entirely serious movie!
