How could anyone not like Pryor? The man was a comedic genius. This is a shame. He completely changed the way comedy is done. -

Geez. He lived WAY longer than I think anyone would have expected, but this is still sort of a shock. This man was indeed a comic genius. An absolute genius.
But he also effed his body up like mad.
Still, rest in peace, Richard Pryor. -

i don't get this "comedic genius" tag. i've seen his movies, i've heard his standup, and, really, he just strikes me as being a complete idiot. his jokes aren't funny, they're stupid, and often cruel. if he did anything of importance it wasn't comedic, but social. he was a political radical, particularly as it dealt with race, and he has a lot to do with modern black culture, especially black comedy. however, even his political radicalism strikes me as being more about offending people for the sake of offense, like some snotty teenager, than any real conviction. he's even argued the same point himself, and says he regrets behaving like that. when he started telling jokes that were less inflamitory people didn't laugh. he's didn't make us laugh because of some sort of great comedic talent, but by offending us so deeply we couldn't do anything else. take that away, and he had nothing. -

Oddly enough I was wondering if he was still alive while playing video games, so I got on the internet, and lo and behold right as I got on, the first article that popped up on MSN was "Richard Pryor Dies at the Age of 65", weird stuff. -

Well, I haven't seen a ton of his acts, but I found the ones that I have seen to be pretty damn hilarious. Then again, comedy is pretty much one of the most opinionated and objective arts out there. Meaning it depends on the audience a lot of times, not the comic. -
