Right, but in that, if one says that "this" is bad, the people who are involved with it must like something "bad", and therefore, have opinions that are "bad".
I don't think you guys have played any American sports. If you haven't, and have only "watched" them on tv, you haven't a word on if they are "sub-standard" or not.
It's too bad that we are a little more cultured to try 99% of the sports out there and don't just play one sport that the world has deemed "the best".
I've played basketball and baseball. Basketball is moderatly fun and baseball is cricket without the class. NASCAR and American Football I've watched on TV - give me the option of watching rally driving or F1 or rugby anyday.
Face it, its only North Americans who actually cares about any of those sports. Funny how the world series doesn't actually actually involve the world and no else actually sees the entertainment in watching a slower, more armoured version of rugby. NASCAR is just, and I quote "taxis turning left for 500 miles".
Basketball, to be fair, is more popular (although not in the same scale as football, rugby etc) over here and I would have no qualms about actually going to a basketball game and/or playing in one.

In Argentina, even if the most popular sport is soccer, the tendency to play basket has grown a lot. -

Nope its still all about football.
Maybe, Argentina doesn't have as good basketball teams as USA, but it's not all about football...every year a lot of basketball teams compete in National tournaments.
Tennis is also one of the most played sports here...
Like I said before, "Soccer is the most popular sport here"..........
BUT IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT IT.Edited by RCFanB&M, 02 July 2006 - 02:49 PM.

Nice stereotyping dude.
Oh, and just for the record, I've played all those sports at some point, American Football i found to be a puffs sport, because of all the stupid protective gear you have to wear, i prefered rugby, the real mans game. Baseball didn't appeal to me, reminds me of cricket, the only thing making it still popular is tradition. Basketball is awesome, and im pretty good at it- have a hoop in my garden lol.
So yeah, nice stereotyping.

Rally driving, while cool, is not a sport. Nor is any other kind of race driving. NASCAR is the lowest of all of these and no one with an IQ above 50 watches it. I'm glad we can all agree on that much. -

Racing is a spectator sport rather than a sport sport.
Why did I double post.Edited by Nic, 02 July 2006 - 04:29 PM.

Let’s not be under any pretence.
American “sport” is just an excuse to drink beer and eat nachos. British sport (read as: real sport) is an excuse to drink beer and shout at a bunch of ridiculously overpaid foreigners (or people from a different city).
But our (read as: the correct) definition doesn’t invalidate theirs. Sitting at home getting drunk and eating junk food whilst watching CNN or whatever is wrong. But when you do the same thing watching a bunch of morons running around a field, it’s socially acceptable. Clearly.
The same is true for our sports, hurling abuse at people just because they are wearing shorts and a different coloured shirt is unacceptable behaviour (regardless of how fundamentally wrong men wearing shorts is). But again, if these people are professional athletes this is more than acceptable. Indeed, if you have paid through-the-nose to get tickets to spend all afternoon drinking shit beer from plastic cups and watch the aforementioned bunch of foreigners run around in circles, you’re the envy of your mates.
I don’t really know what I’m talking about now, but I think what ever it is needed saying. -

you guys are forgetting hockey.
this saddens me.
because if you want to talk 'real mens sports' this one is up there or nearly there with rugby. -

Onto matters of the actual game.
This Germany-Italy match has had some of the finest goalkeeping by both sides I think I've ever seen. -

That was incredible. Really really good football.
And i'm glad Italy won, since I was backing them in my fantasy football thing.
Now I need France to win too.
What a great game. -

wow, speechless. An amazing game, finally a game with two very good, even sides, and the best referee in the tournament to match it. Both teams played exceptional, and it was a really difficult one to call until the very last minute of extra time. Italy may go on and win this now, their defence looks unstoppable, and their attacking play is really sharp too.
Germans played very well, couldn't fault their performance at all. The game was so finely positioned right until the end, it could have easily swung in the Germans favour if luck was on their side.
Both goals were fantastic though, especially DelPiero's, excellent finish. Also the first match where i don't think the referee made a wrong decision.
