Figo will probably get disciplined for that (probably rightly so). It was pretty funny watching the other guy pause and then go down clutching his face.
And when Kuyt went into Ricardo I swear that Ricardo was acting a bit too - buying them a bit of time for substitutes/water etc.

Yeah there were are a couple of things that deserved us our lost that didn't had to do anything with the strenth of a team or to determine which team is 'better';
1) IVANOV; Someone at the Fifa should fire this guy, he's just totally nuts. He couldn't controll such an important game on such a high level. He's incompetent as he has proven also in previous matches to lead a game well in order to have a FAIR match. Total playing time was 55 minutes out of the 96, which is pretty pathetic.
2) Portuguese theatre; If you play a game to steal time you don't belong to the best teams of the world. They looked like really skilled actors to steal this absurd large amount of time.
3) Van Basten's line-up; Why leave our #1 hitman Ruud van Nistelrooij out of the squad. He had scored that goal Kuyt missed. He was there when van Persie gave that pass in front of an empty box. No, Van Basten lined up Kuyt who hasn't played a decent match yet, scored no (important) goals and did no thing a striker should do. He also lined up Heitinga when Boulahrouz was sent of in favor of van Bommel. How stupid can you be when you're 1 goal against?! He also lined up Vennegoor as pinchhitter who hasn't even played yet at all. He did a poor job.
4) Unexperience of our players; It's pretty clear our young unexperienced players let themself go and gave the opportunity to Portugal to steal an aweful lot of time. Heitinga should've played that ball back to Portugal, before Deco got him.. They just should've played football instead of played Portugal.
I'm now rooting for Argentina btw for the reason Magnus mentioned
Oh, And Hiddink's Australia too.

Netherlands was diving just as much as Portugal....and Netherlands is partly to blame for how little playing time their was, since almost every time there was a big shoving match it was instigated by a Netherlands player. While the reffing was pretty bad, there is no way that it helped Portugal to win except for what Evil said about how little actual playing time there was. The bottom line is Portugal scored a great goal, and Netherlands couldn't get the ball in the back of the net to save their lives. -

And what a boring game that Italy Australia one was...spent most of it doing the crossword.
Not even sure that deserved a penalty either. Seemed like the referee just wanted to end the match. -

Cos the Argentinian team are all gay, cheating twatbags. Much like the Portugeuse and the Italians.
But damn they are good this world cup.

You're saying that because you're from UK, aren't you?
And "cheating" is present on every single match...
I don't know why are you against argentinians...I agree with you about Maradonna, yes, he's a big fat, drug addict, etc...
But I don't see any reason for insulting all the argentinian players.Edited by RCFanB&M, 26 June 2006 - 02:26 PM.

Oh, come on, that's not a reason ...I play tennis and I don't think that Roger Federer is gay, just because he would beat me on the court.
Besides, I don't think Argentina is better than England...I think both teams are similar. I mean, both teams have great players, and not any team reachs 1/4 final in a World Cup. -

That portugal game is another instance of just what i hate about footie.
There were minor flashes of brilliance in here but the rest was just a farce.
How did the player who through Deco to the floor not get a yellow? how did Figo not get a Red. The ref had no control at all.
Its interesting that Figo could of been banned if the ref hadnt given him a yellow for something he blatently didnt see anyway lol. (something about double jepody) -

I thought that game was hilarious. Great entertainment. We were all sitting there hoping for extra time and more cards.
Better than games where nothing, but nothing, happens. -

The Switzerland vs Ukraine game was terrible, one of the worst matches i have ever seen, and i'm a Wolves fan...
Brazil vs Ghana today, and Ghana have lost Essien through suspension, so i am expecting a pretty one sided battle there. Spain vs France should be a good match, but i expect Spain to win, France are not half the team they were, they were very lucky to qualify.

Yeah, a terrible game with a terrible penalty shootout (although that 'Panenka' penalty was quite entertaining).. It almost topped the Ukraine vs. Tunisia match.
I somehow feel there could be a surprise in tonights matches though..
Even if Essien is suspended Ghana still has a pretty solid squad, with Appiah, Amoah, Mensah, Gyan and Muntari.. Brazil has a lot more quality though, but on the other side A LOT more pressure because they're the tournament's favourites to win..
