The Czechs and US seemed to both suffer from a lack of effort. Both teams had great potential and individual talent, but neither of them performed as they should have, except the Czechs against US and the US against Italy when they were a man down. Its a shame neither of them are going on, but it'll be interesting seeing how far Italy makes it, they look very strong thus far.

Header by Ronaldo in stoppage time to tie it up just before the half. That was pretty cool. It's nice to watch a team that can actually... you know... pass.

Ouch, US down 2-1 at halftime due to a penalty kick awarded on a dive by Pimpong.  It's not looking good for the US.

Speaking of this, I thought the refs were supposed to be looking for these "dives" and "Actors" and giving them yellow cards? I've seen a whole lot of award winning acting and no penalties for it

Anyway, Id say the USA's group did turn out to be a "group of death", because it turned out all 4 teams were better than average, just the USA did not play like it.

OK, Brazil ended the game 4-1 winners, and deserved it. Robinho was wonderful, as we all knew he could be, and Ronaldo played very well to equal the all time goal scoring record in the world cup finals, on 14. I felt sorry for the Japanese midfield, who were excellent, but had no-one of a good standard up front to pass to. I think Nakamura, Nakata and Inamoto are three top quality players.

Czech Republic has a great potiential...sad that they didn't pass.

As for the US/Ghana game....

Wow, some great matches played today.. I think I can safely say today's the best day of the tournament so far with some very tense matches.

I feel sorry for the Czechs for not getting through.. The injuries of their strong attackers Koller and Baros (although he did play) really got them in the end.. Nedved and Rosicky were very strong on the midfield, but they couldn't really break the Italian defense (which I believe is the strongest in the tournament). Italy played their game very smart, and I think they're going all the way, and maybe could win it all..

Ghana really surprised, but the US also did.. It could go either way, but in the end Ghana was luckier.. I would love to see them play Brazil though, as I think they are physically and conditionally stronger.. Brazil has tons more quality though (that they proved today), so it will be very interesting to see how Brazil will handle Ghana..

And wow, Hiddink did it again! He really proved to be a winner and risk taker with all those attackers he brought in the 2nd half.. It certainly put a lot of pressure on Croatia.. Australia deserved to win though, with 3 penalties where only one was given.. Croatia scored their 2nd goal lucky too with Kalac' fault.. I don't expect Australia will be any threat to Italy though, but you never know..

Brazil has the hottest fans there, hands down... with the UK having the ugliest. Aussie's aint bad either... fugly American chick though in the later one.

haha i went about half way thru it, i love the way how they only put up pictures of some of the ugliest british women our country has to offer in the crowd lol, they may aswell have put a picture of me up there for fucks sake! But yeah... every Brazilian is sexy, there are no exceptions!

My predictions.

I'd say about the same, except personally I think Italy will beat the Aussies.

I think that match will be closer than expected.

Jellybones, I agree with everything you've predicted, except Italy will beat Australia.

I'd like to see Portugal make it to the final, but there's no chance they'll beat off Brazil.

For all those who think England still has a chance of winning... look at how many strong teams they'd have to beat to get to the final alone... not gonna happen!

holland over portugal (more of a hope here.. the record says differently. argentina and holland should have tossed it, they were scared of mexico and we're scared of portugal.. and not the other way around... one of the hardest matches to predict..)

brazil over ghana
spain over france

Germany over Italy
