England have got a good group! What is with us and getting Sweden in our group too? That like three times in a row now? If possible, i would like ot see England vs Holland in the final, with an England win- a man can dream...

Doesn't this just look like it's terribly rigged? Look at group A. I mean, omg. Did they just get the worst three countries of each seperate random chosen team or what? Oh wait, does group F include the Netherlands or Czech Republic? No. Those germans are trying everything to get them in the finals. Way to microwave, or something.
I find the 8 'ranked' teams completely ridiculous. How the hell are the Czech Republic and the Netherlands, number 2 and 4 (used to be the other way around) not ranked? And now, the Netherlands is with Argentina, the number 3 in the world, and Czech Republic is with Italy, arguably one of the stronger sides of those 8 as well (they just beat Holland 3-1, no?)
Anyways, Germany won't make it whoever they face, because they just aren't that good. And supposedly Holland should still easily make it. Very, very tough group, Ivory Coast (sp?) is definitely the strongest of a good line-up of African teams. Drogba can definitely surprise imo, and Koné seems to be their third striker..
Anyways, i'll make some predictions =P.
Group A: 1st Germany 2cnd Ecuador
Group B: 1st England 2cnd Sweden
Group C: 1st Netherlands 2cnd Argentina
Group D: 1st Mexico 2cnd Portugal
Group E: 1st Italy 2cnd Czech Republic (4th USA )
Group F: 1st Brazil 2cnd Australia
Group G: 1st France 2cnd Switzerland
Group H: 1st Spain 2cnd Ukraine
Round of 16:
Germany over Sweden
Netherlands over Portugal
Italy over Australia
Ukraine over France
England over Ecuador
Argentina over Mexico
Brazil over Czech Republic
Spain over Switzerland
Quarter-finals:
Netherlands over Germany
Italy over Ukraine
Argentina over England
Brazil over Spain
Semi-Finals:
I can't say anything but Netherlands, though i'd be severly doubting this match. The Italians Holland does not want to face, out of all teams, imo.
Argentina over Brazil (Messi is 6 months older, you know )
Final..
Netherlands over Argentina.
Makes sense, doesn't it . There's definitely gonna happen something that no one expects, though. -

the netherlands were placed that low because of 2002
just a short reminder for you dutch people:
"Ohne Holland fahr'n wir zu WM!"
so you can't expect the team to be placed higher than it was, though they are playing better now.
about the german group. it may look easy at the beginning but then seeing it again it seems to be one of the harder groups.
ecuador won against brazil and argentina so they will make the 1st place.
poland isn't too easy either.
i say if germany wins their group they go to the finals.
group E looks very interesting. there everything can happen. even the US can win that one.
looks like this year will be very interesting. already looking forward to it. -

Wouldn't that be hilarious if the USA got into the 16 and went far?
I only say that because supposedly, we have a pretty good team this year or something. I honestly don't follow soccer a lot, so admittedly, this is all based on secondary sources. -

Actually, Corkyyyyyy the USA team isn't half bad, I'd expect them to reach the 2nd stage at least. -

You 'expect' the US to finish in front of the Czech Republic and Italy? Then you know nothing about soccer, imo. It would be a major, major upset if they did. Believe me, Ghana is more than tough enough of an opponent for the US. But go Beasley!
Lots of goals there trav, that most surely won't be happening. -
Jellybones Offline
Maybe if the USA did something for once, we could get more Americans into soccer. And then maybe the MLS wouldn't be considered a minor league on the world stage and would be worth watching.
Go USA!
Brazil's gonna win though. -

And I'd also "expect" Italy to do fuck all. Again.
Italy have done nothing since 1994 and even then they played in an extremely boring world cup final.
Over rated, dull team in my opinion who struggled against a weak Croatia last time around and then two years later failed to beat Denmark and Sweden and qualifiy for the quarter finals of Euro 2004.. Yeah, great team.
Don't say I don't know anything about "soccer" where you can't even give it its correct name, cunt.Edited by Nic, 10 December 2005 - 03:15 PM.

Please, you're giving the Czechs too much credit. Don't get me wrong, I've never been the biggest US fan, I just like watching soccer, but it would be nice to get a little world football attention here in the states, and I dont' think it's going to be as difficult as WME here seems to think. I think the US has as good of a chance to get out of their pool as the dutch, so shove itEdited by Micool, 10 December 2005 - 04:16 PM.

Aslong as Peter Cech, Nedved and Baros are playing for the Czech's, they will be a tough team to beat- don't underestimate them, they can be a fucking good team.

You're calling me a cunt for not giving soccer its correct name, on an american forum? In my non-native tongue? Yes, i usually call it 'voetbal', that's way better, i'll just fit that right in...
The US hasn't done shit. Italy has been one of the best sides since ages. They're pretty good this time round and they just beat Holland in a friendly. Czech Republic is ranked 2cnd in the world, and not because of any weak opponents. How the hell does the US have the same chances as Holland? Argentina and Holland are roughly at the same level, and should both beat Ivory Coast and Serbia Montenegro (fyi, Argentina beat Holland once in earlier world cups, Holland beat Argentina four times, and they tied twice.)
I know the US is probably going to improve over time and someday be a major threat. For them to upset other teams and make it to the next round they probably needed a luckier draw than one of the supposed 'groups of death'.
And no one is ranking Australia above 4th, why? Australia beat Uruguay coming into this world cup, no one'd think that either right? PSV is about to win the champions league and South Korea did great too last world cup. Just one of the surprises I foresee, though it's almost starting to not become as surprising.
Please open your eyes though people, you don't have a Pavel Nedved, Ruud van Nistelrooy nor a Luca Toni on your side. -
deanosrs Offline
What do you guys mean "if the USA did something for once"? They had a very nice little world cup run last time round if I remember correctly - was it quarters? Definitely at least round of 16, effort to look it up.
If someone didn't point this out already, six frags, your predictions are messed up with who plays who after groups.
I know this sounds kind of odd. But I really want Beckham to get injured for the World Cup. He stifles Lampard especially but also Gerrard, and I think he makes it impossible to play tactics revolving around wingers which most of the other players are used to.
To be honest, I would be extremely dissapointed if England don't make the final. The only teams we should be even remotely scared of on our side of the draw are the argies and holland. We've more than proven we can beat Argentina, Holland would be an interesting game. I personally don't think the Dutch backline is strong enough to contain Lampard and Rooney. Who knows, we'll probably see some time in June. Can't really see anyone other than Argentina, England or Brazil winning it. Because Italy/France/Spain/Holland really imo not strong enough to defeat the Brazilians. -
Jellybones Offline
True, but they probably need to make it to the round of 4 if anyone's going to pay attention.
Though at least around here people will be into the World Cup, but they'll all be rooting for Portugal. -

I wish I could follow this better than just Yahoo sports updates.
But with no cable, the only sport I get on my home TV is American football.
I hate it.
