RCFan, change Italy to US and yours would look just about like what my predictions would be. Except my final 4 would be Argentina, France, Netherlands and Brazil. (Or US instead of France if I'm feeling optimistic)
And, after seeing the Argentina CIV game, I think both teams looked very strong.Edited by eman, 11 June 2006 - 09:55 AM.

Wow Magnus..... I thought this Holland-Germany thingie would have been gone for the "younger generation " nowadays...... but obviously not.....??
Well basically I love Holland. When I was younger I spent most of my summer holidays in Holland and loved it, but when it comes to football this is still a common joke in Germany. 4 years ago we were all happy when your team didn't qualify and had this song "Ohne Holland, fahr'n wir zur WM". Then again all this is just fun. Most people I know like seeing your team play, but if it was Germany vs. Holland it would be pretty obvious for whom we cheer. -

interesting games so far today.
Mexico and Holland getting points.
Not bad games. Not sure the Serbians deserve to of lost. thought they were unlucky not to get a draw.
Ready for a thrashing tonight? Angola Vs Portugal -

Mexico kicked some ass, much more fun to watch then that 0-0 tie yesterday.
I don't follow soccer much and got a few questions, like when they show a players profile with his name and age whats "caps" mean? and how do you get called offsides? Last one, when is this huge USA vs. Czech. Republic. match gona be?
I kinda like watching this due to all the hype and the wild fans, also aint like anything else is on at noon -

Caps means how many times they've captained for their team (I think). And the offside rule is really hard to explain. If a player behind the oppositions last defender passes it to a player on the same team who is past the oppositions last defender and there is clear daylight between the player and the last defender, then it is given for offside.
Someone else have a go at explaining it cos I can't explain shit for love nor money. -

usa and czech is tomorrow.
offsides is when an attacker is in front of a defender right when the ball is passed (to him or in that general direction too, i think)
i want to know what caps are too, got no clue. :' />Edited by penguinBOB, 11 June 2006 - 12:05 PM.

Offside:
Red: Defender
Blue:Attacker
White:bal
Anyway, Holland played good(Not to good, okay). The position game was good, Robben was good and Heitinga suprised me with his passes. We where'nt brilliant as sometimes in 98, but we played 'zakelijk' (Business, i don't know how English call it) -

What was the score on the Ivory Coast game?
2 - 1 Argentina.
About offsides, you should know that it is only judged when the ball is played. If a player makes his run behind the defense after the ball is played through, he is on side. It's usually a pretty tough call, especially at this level.
Netherlands won 1 - 0. I love their style of play, possession the whole game. maybe a bit slow compared to other teams attacks, but still a joy to watch.
Also, Mexico beat Iran 3 -1 with two great goals from Bravo and an awesome header from Sinha. Too bad for Iran, they seemed to just die after they fell behind by two goals. Great win for Mexico though, and you have to sympathize for Sanchez. -

Caps is the number of times someone has played in a match for their country.
not captained. -

Actually, if the referee hadn't disallowed the first goal, Argentina would have won the match 3-1. -

jep, wanted to fill them in on that too lol.
anyways, a deserved win imo. There were some chances for the Serb's but most of the possesion was our way, and we were 1-0 up basically the entire match so heey, if the opposition doesn't score then you win right? i would have liked 2-0 but my prediction was 1-0 before the start of the match already.
Robben was awesome, umbelievable. Not there during the practice matches and some people wanted to know why he was still on the first squad. Well, here is why, one brilliant action after another. I love it how he passed up the entire opposing side once haha.
Anyways, we could have played better, van Nistelrooy and van Persie were mostly invisible. but after all, we were clearly stronger, in charge of most of the possesion, and a definite winner in the end. Mathijsen being our obvious weakness, where are you stam when we need you right? boulahrouz might make a personal preference, anyhow looking forward to ivory coast. Gonna be tough (didn't i say to you guys they were awesome way back? and you told me to look at the africa cup and laughed at me? i love being right you know)
And people in the states think Czech-USA is a big match? hahaha. of course they do. Though i'm semi hoping with you for an upset :). -

Pinned as it is the official World Cup Topic.
Notice there are no "Go Mavs" topics pinned up there, so, fuck off. -

Of course we think it's a big match Evil, after all we have a reasonable chance to win, and if we do it all but ensure that we will go on beyond pool play. And about Netherlands, I was actually quite dissapointed by them. Van Nistelrooy did less than nothing, and the only player who contributed to their attack was Robben, though I will say that his play was excellent. -

i was dissapointed by van nistelrooy too, though he did almost score one weird goal haha. would have been nice. other than that he didn't really seem to be there, no. In the end, when you're up 1-0 you don't really have to score though, do you? It's up for the opposition to take charge then and the serbs did nothing like it, they didn't even have the ball most of the time. -

Cant really blame van nistelrooy as he hasnt been playing for the latter part of the season, kuyt shoulda started.
