Just got back... was about 2 hours and 10 mins long, as expected. It was pretty good, better than I thought. My were there a TON of dorks there... like... a ton. The previews showed Ice Age 2, some nanny movie, Cars, and Pirates 2. 3 out of 4 actually were applauded... guess which one wasn't. Anyways, yeah, movie was good, child actors were better than I thought for n00bs. Effects were pretty stellar. Music was amazing. Pulled off the book perfectly imo. The fight scenes were also pretty neat, except for the last kill bad guys wise... that was lame. there were a lot of clapping going on from the numerous dorks in the audience, pretty lame. They all laughed at the end too when they showed the kids old out of nowhere... allison and I were all... did we miss something? Anyways... yeah... 3:15 now... i'm gonna try to go to bed now.

Yeah that bit where they grew up was hilarious! Come on, that film was classic - not only was it pretty gripping, it was also so funny (unintentionally in places...when Susan kills the guy it's like her ONE bit of heroism lmao) and the look of the film was beautiful.
So yes, maybe i'm not the average viewer (all that symbolism stuff passes me by) but I thought it was an extremely entertaining film. Obviously there were flaws - the wolf with american accent (what was that all about?), the stilted dialogue in places (are you with me? to the death!) and the tendency for melodrama, but apart from that it was GREAT.

LMAO edmund the just, susan the gentle...PETER THE MAGNIFICENT.
Absolute comedy.

lol... yeah the wolf thing was kinda weird, and the names at the end were pretty corny.

And about the symbolism, Allison's a pretty big christian so she wasn't watching it during the lion thing with the evil witch, I was just all c'mon and got all on me over it, but didn't care.

I thought it was shit in all honesty. Im guessing its because I hadnt read the books.
IMO everything happened so quickly and so willingly that it failed to grip me, I didnt feel like they would ever fail, and so, never really felt excited when they won the battle. It was also really predictable, although when Lucy (is that her name?) was crying on the Lion (Which has a mint name BTW) I thought she would use that potion thing on it.

I have to admit though, every aspect of it impressed me, from the scenery to CGI and even to the actors. WTF, when they skipped 30yrs ahead the actor playing the King looked totaly different to the kid lol.

In summary, I wouldnt recommend the film to non-book readers such as myself, but at the same time, for curiositys sake, I'd say watch it, because on the whole I am one of the few people who thought it was a waste of money.

On a side note, I actually went to the Cinema to see Doom but it was on too late. I'v heard thats shit too, but I loved the game so im gonna watch it anyway.

Yea, Doom follows basic principles in the game, but nothing fantastic as a movie. Although the first person was pretty cool to see.

I'm a bit skeptical of Narnia just because I think I'll feel that it'll be the 'zoo' version of LotR, but that's just my first impression.

The movie was really good IMO. The special effects were pretty amazing, and the music kicked serious ass, and I usually don't notice the music so that's saying something. The Witch was pretty evil looking, too. Props to the team that made her look so damn wicked!

If this movie goes over well, I expect we'll see the rest of the Chronicles of Narnia books made into films soon. Which isn't a bad thing, it's just I'm unfamiliar with those and may not catch on as easily as I did with this one.

I'm considering seeing this one purely because I read all the books IN THE CORRECT ORDER except for the Last Battle, which as I understand it is rather depressing compaired with the others.

The Magicians Nephew is the first book by the story BTW, and a good one. I hate that people automatically go in the order written 50 years after the last one was published.... GO BY THE STORY.

Other than my issue with the order there's nothing to keep me from at least considering it.

It was good, but I personally think one should read the series in the order it was published first. Story-wise, it's not chronologically correct, but I think it's better to be thrown right into Narnia first rather than see its creation first. For example, reading "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe" first you see the lamp after they go into Narnia and you're like "WTF? A lamp? Intriguing!" But if you read Magician's Nephew first, you're like "Oh, it's that lamp again." It's similar to watching Episodes 4-6 of Star Wars before watching the prequels, or reading the Hobbit and LOTR before the Silmarillion. t's just a matter of opinion though. Unlike with those two examples I gave, "The Magician's Nephew" is probably still a decent starting book. And the publication dates in comparison to the chronological order is all screwed up for the entire series, so it can be confusing the read them in the order they were published.

Anyways, I still haven't seen the movie. I'll probably see it this weekend. Maybe I'll reread the book first, since I don't have anything better to do, aside from playing Rct2. And it'll probably only take a couple hours to read it through.

As far as sequels, the director is supposed to interested in doing "Prince Caspian" next. If I remember correctly, my favorite was "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader," with the first three (by publishing date) following after that. The other three would be good too, except that I've always thought "A Horse and His Boy" sucked.

Really, from the previews the production values of this movie look like shit. I will go and see it tomorrow just for the sake of it.

Well, I've never read the book, but I throroughly enjoyed this film. It's certainly not as epic and grand as LotR, but it has that almost childlike fun and adventure going for it. If I was 12, I think I would have fallen madly in love with the story and the mythology. As it is, despite some minor abrupt transitions, I thought it was a great movie. Probably my favorite of the year, at this point, because of that magic that it has.

Looks like I have a reading list for winter break... and since I'm lazy right now, could someone tell me the two orders? Basically the "official order" and the chronological order.

EDIT: Well, half nevermind... I found the Narnia chronological order from the site (apparently there's a narnia.com that I just discovered), so I guess the order he wrote would be the one I'm looking for now, unless that's written on there too. I'll see..)

EDIT 2: It's all on the site. And I wasn't aware that the book features different protagonists as well. Very, very interesting indeed, although not all the books sound interesting (by the descriptions at least). Ah well. At least they're relatively short.

I was quite impresed by the film. About as good as I expected, perhaps a little better. The special effects were expertly done, and the acting was generally good (minus the guy who played Peter) If only they made it a 12 rating then I could imagine it being much better (with more thought into making the audience think the good people will be destroyed, more graphic detail in the battle scene, I mean, edmund got stabbed, yet there was no blood!) but meh. Definately worth the watch.

I liked it. It wasn't super stellar amazing, but it was very well done. I liked the way the "true queen" of narnia looked.

I saw it, thought it was horrible, will post on it later though, I've got college stuff to do.

Joey, your seemingly dogmatic beliefs and supposed assumptions and almost high and mighty way of looking at some movies really bugs me.

But only because I disagree with you in this case.

The movie was just too airy for me. I wasn't really into the kids saving the day kind of thing. I was bored and the final battle wasn't even cool.

If it were a bit darker and PG13 then I probably would have enjoyed it a lot more.

Unlike many other movie villians the Witch did nothing to haunt me, I knew she was going to get her ass beaten because Aslan is this beastly lion who is Jesus.

I did have fun looking at the Christian allegory in the movie though.

I really want to write a critique of this film, but I've got so much to do!

I just saw this and really really liked it, it's now my all-time favourite film. The cinematics were great, the acting was superb. I really like the ending and the bit just before the ending I cried ^_^
