Hey you cocksuckers, is there some rule against seeing and enjoying all three because that's what the fuck I'm going to do
Jesus, everything's a competition. C.S. Lewis is J.K. Rowling's favorite author and idol, and King Kong is Peter Jackson and has nothing to do with either. Plus, Narnia looks like LotR because WETA is behind all the artwork!!
so holy shit stop comparing them all, and ps unless jackson's reputation gets him rocketlaunched into contention none of them are going to win the Oscar, so I guess you can all go see all of them.
The problem isn't that it looks like Lord of the Rings, the problem is that it looks exactly like Lord of the Rings, but made with less care. If it was done with equal care, or originality, I wouldn't be so upset, and if it was done with both, I wouldn't be upset at all.
Besides, WETA is a special effects firm, and one of the best, but they have nothing to do with the film creatively. They just help bring the filmmakers's vision to life, they are not the filmmakers themselves. -

I agree with cg?. He said what I was going to say about the Narnia series.
Rumor has it King Kong could possibly be up for contest with the best pictures. It's supposed to be this epic love story, and if Titanic can win, so can this.
Harry Potter is going to be beyond awsome. Even the trailer is amazing. The pacing and music are great; that is rare for a trailer these days.
Mantis, I don't think they gave away everything with the Kong trailer. Jackson really conveyed the atmosphere of the movie with it I think. Drowzy on the island, sharpe and clean in New York, Mystery, etc etc. I am really excited for this years winter season. -

"Come to www.impawards.com for one of the web's largest galleries of movie posters" is a really shitty movie name.
Anyways, about what I was saying earlier; there's some more stuff about Clarke/Tolkien/Lewis down onthis site. However, it isn't really like what I said earlier. No Asimov. Some of what I said seems OK, but I swear I got the rest from somewhere. I'll look through some of my books later this week and find something I can be certain of.Edited by Xcoaster, 07 November 2005 - 10:18 PM.

ok, for the record, every litterary work in the history in forever are "rip offs" and borrowers except for the two greatest, and oldest, poems ever written--The Illiad and The Odessy. So yeah, just thought I'd clear that up--I guess you can say I'm still a little fanboy from when I read them when I was little...In school when i was 10 we was forced to read 'Narnia'. Its the biggest pile of rip-off shit i've ever read. Its just toally 'twee', like it was written by a four-year old on steroids.
With that being said, I would like to see all three. I feel Narnia is going to be the worst of them, Harry Potter looks really cool, and I don't know much about the King Kong movie, other than Jack Black's playing a serious roll (for the first time in his life) in it. -

Weta Digital is a special effects firm. Weta also encompasses a miniature house, costume/prop design houses, and John Howe/Alan Lee (I can't remember which one). Weta was responsible for the art direction of Narnia as they were for the LOTR trilogy.
Anyway, they really don't look that similar. -

You're right, Narnia looks like a cheap knockoff. -

it's looks cheap, but it doesn't look like a knock off... despite your misguided insistence. -

I always thought that was what was up, but then I heard Tolkein was the deeply religious man, while Lewis was an Atheist? Possibly incorrect. -

I'm pretty sure that's incorrect. My church quotes him all the time, so I'm quite sure he's a Christian. From the wikipedia entry:I always thought that was what was up, but then I heard Tolkein was the deeply religious man, while Lewis was an Atheist? Possibly incorrect.
"In addition to his career as an English Professor and an author of novels, Lewis also wrote a number of books about Christianity — perhaps most famously, Mere Christianity, which is considered a classic work in the area of Christian apologetics. After some years as an atheist, he converted to Christianity and joined the Church of England. Although he became an Anglican, he stated that he was influenced by his Roman Catholic friend Tolkien. He was very much interested in presenting a reasonable case for the truth of Christianity." -

Well. They didn't know any better.
Anyway, I was pretty harsh earlier, sorry about that. But still, if you think Narnia is trying to take advantage of LotR, you might be right. If you aren't going to see it for that reason, fuck you.
By the way...has anyone seen this clip of the Quidditch World Cup...It's fabulous.

What mystery is there left in King Kong? Hooray he fights a TRex. Hooray he goes wild in the city. We already know what happens so why the hell show all the lovely effects in the trailer so they aren't a surprise in the film?
