Miami Heat Interview Report

Anyway for an article for my colleges newspaper I decided id try to do a piece on the Heat, coz my college' main campus is 2 blocks from it. I got a press pass and got to go to interview room where I waited with some local press for the team to bring out some players and maybe the coach. The first guy the brought out was Pat Riley and I asked him a question and tape recorded his reply for my article, it was a pretty good quote I could work with.

Next the Dwayne Wade came to the mic and the other press guys jumped at him coz he was coming off that 40 point game vs. Washington. I just asked him a basic question about what the team's gameplan was for the playoffs, I got a reply that was ok, but worthy of a weak question like that, but I needed some basketball basics to put in my article.

After Wade left the guy's were told Shaq was coming next, but after about a half hour everyone except me and one other guy left. I stupidly assumed asking Shaq a question would be easy with the room empty, then the other guy told me it was over and we just had to go, but this other guy was a friend of Shaq's and was in-town to do a photo shoot with him later that day and had to see him and I knew this coz we had talked a lot before the press conference started. Infact maybe some of you have heard of this Photographer, Andrew Bernstein, he is in the NBA hall of fame for his work and has been to every NBA finals since 1983 or something.

So after just about everyone was gone I was disappointed, getting Riley and Wade was great, but I wanted to get a quote from Shaq above all, so I walked out to sorta follow this guy I knew would see Shaq sooner or later and sure enough I turned a corner and saw him and Shaq standing there talking and walked up. I waited for them to notice me then I approached Shaq, introduced myself as a reporter from Miami Dade College and asked Shaq nicely if I could get a quote, he was cool, said yes and gave me a great quote on his opinions of college students as fans. After that I asked for a picture and he sorta grabbed me, I ment just of him, but I guess he thought of us both, but you can't argue when a 7'2 man has His arm around you, so I got this pic.



After that I chatted with Shaq for a sec and even said hello to Alonzo Mourning as he walked by messing with Shaq. I could not help asking Shaq one more question before I left. "Hey, how many backboards have you broken?" he grinned and said "seven".

And that was my Miami Heat interview, mostly thx to the team having a very nice PR department. I think the note my newspaper staff advisor made out for me could get me into any press conference, however I will not to do that and push my luck.

Yeah, I walked into a restaurant in Carmel last night, noticed the Clips losing by 15 in the first half, and laughed.

It's... the best I can do these days.

The Clips and Lakers won on the road. When was the last time on the same night?

I dunno... prolly not as long ago as we think. But at least we beat the Celtics. This could have been a 3-0 trip so far if we hadn't blown the game against Cleveland and let New Jersey back into the game they won.

Oh schnaps, Miami got SHUT DOWN tonight in the 4th. That was one uglyass game.

Also, when Bill Walton was describing Dwayne Wade's body, that was pretty creepy.

The reason Spurs are losing is because Manu Ginobli and Tim Duncan haven't been doing so well lately. Probably have too much beer and sex on their minds. Hope they do well in the playoffs like last year. BTW, I live in San Antonio.
