i just saw it this morning before i had to go off to work. what an amazing film. i felt the musical numbers to be a bit forced, but the scene with the underworld jazzfest was absolutely kickass.
danny elfman is a genius.
great movie, though. burton's best work to date, for me.
anyway. discuss! -

I saw it this afternoon. I enjoyed it, more than Nightmare Before Christmas, but I've never cared much for Nightmare Before Christmas, so that doesn't say a whole lot. The main thing I liked about it more was that I've always felt Nightmare to feel a little lacking in substance, that is, I always feel like it's too short, while that didn't seem like a problem with this one. The songs in Nightmare were much better though. I felt a little "meh" about the ending, but I guess there wasn't much else they could do. Overall I think I'd give it an 8/10.
As a side note, I thought it was interesting how the dead world and its inhabitants were much more colorful than the living world.
BTW, I didn't think about it until afterwards, but did we see Victor's parents again after the carriage ride? I don't remember seeing them again. -

I really want to see this, it looks like TNBC, but I don't think it's come out over here yet.
EDIT* It doesn't come out for another month here. -

I loved it. It's fun, whimsical, and nice eye candy, and it had enough heart to keep me attached. I really enjoyed it, and it's probably my favorite film of the year. Then again, I'm a pretty big Burton mark, and I LOVED Nightmare Before Christmas. -

it was a great show, saw it friday; nice and concise. none of that plot augmenting and explaing garbage that every movie seems to have nowadays. i liked how upstairs had the drab colors and other setting elements that made it feel dead, and how in the underworld it was all happy and colorful. the only things possible to make it better would be to have more face expressions on the characters, make the skeletons talk and sing more convincingly, make victor marry the corpse bride in the end instead of victoria or have her not turn into butterflies (what was up with that?).
so yeah, now i need to rewatch nightmare before christmas. i can't remember anything from it. -

I just got back from seeing it, and I thought it was great.
I liked the constrast of the gloomy atmosphere of the living world compared to the festive lively look of the dead world. I enjoyed watching it..my favorite movie ATM.
I should watch Nightmare Before Christmas again to see which I like better.. -

I didn't see it and I don't want to. That Nightmare Before Christmas scared thi crap outta me. That one lil skeleton guy... the movie is always so dark and scary feeling. It scares the crap outta me and Im still havin nightmares.
Like I was in a dome wit like 500 people and then them skeleton guys walked in from some futuristic door thing and all the people jumped up to the top of the dome and turned into cacoon like things. I didnt know how to so I stayed and they came and taped me to a table that poped up outta the floor after they hit a button. They surrounded me and just started to eat me alive starting from my stomach... And I was taped down man! That was the craziest nightmare I have ever had.
I aint goin to see it.

I loved every bit of this movie. I must agree that the musical numbers did seem a bit forced, but this was definitely Elfman at his finest. Burton did a fantastic job, and really has an amazing niche for this medium.
This was by far better than The Nightmare Before Christmas, which I find a bit overrated, (but that doesn't mean I dislike it).
