Two things I'd really like to find out about.

    1) Why the hell is there polar bears
    2) Why did those guys want Walt / What was it in the water?

Lost was entered as a drama, while Desperate Housewives was entered as a comedy (where it was beat by Everybody Loves Raymond, which is fine with me).

Ah.. I'm British, so didn't watch the awards or anything. I just downloaded the episode from the net.
And Everybody Loves Raymond won over DH!? Why!? That show sucks!
It must be more popular in America (I read somewhere about it getting a spin-off show), because over here it's on at like 7am, and nobody watches it..

This is a theory, but its in white so it doesn't spoil anything. Its not my theory.

I recently found an interesting natuarlly occuring thoery found in our world that states everyone has a mirror image somewhere in the world. You may have heard of this. Its called Roussau's genetic mirror theory, and I must say it is very interesting. Roussau's genetic mirror theory says that everyone in the world has an exact twin somewhere, however according to the theory you never encounter this person, by laws of probablitly and other natuaral occuring phemnomen. Its the theory that was devised by a French Mathematician named Marseille Roussau in the year 1988. He used a series of numbers to explain his theory. Now I know you're not going to believe this but here goes.

    4 8 15 16 23 42

    Let me explain...

The 4 stands for 4 degrees of separation (not 6 or 7 as commonly stated.) Roussau believed that everyone in the world was connected by four different people. So in theory could meet yourself by using four different people connected to you. Example: Your brother's, boss's, neighbor nephew, knows your mirror. Hard to believe, I know but keep reading.

The 8 stands for the eight continent, or the only place in the world where you could meet your mirror. He calculated it to be somewhere in the south pacific. Now we know its not actually as large as the other contintents but its used figurtively because everyone in all 7 continents could meet there mirror on the 8th universal continent.

The 15 stands for the chances of you acually meeting yourself on this place, as in 15 out of 4,815,162,342. Look at the second set "815." Ring any bells? Interesting huh?

The 16 stands for the maximum amount of people that could encounter thier twin all at the same time. Think about the number of main characters.

The 23 is the number of years apart your twin and yourself are. You are not the same age as your twin. By chance and probablity it takes 23 years exactly for the same genes that made you to be connected again to form another you.

The 42 stands for the maximimum number of years your twin and yourself can be alive at the same time. However people do die at diffferent times so thats why everyone isn't dead at 75. For example my twin was born on Sept. 6 2003 b/c i was born on Spet. 6 1980. Now that doesn't mean i will die in the year 2045, I could, but its not set in stone. My twin could die when he is 16, and then the whole thing starts over again.

This is all very complicated and I don't know how well I explained it but the connections with the show are too coinidental to not be real.

Roussau and his team (wife, included) went to the 8th continent. You can figure out how they died and why by the numbers and equations. It also fits with every character. You can predict when they will die. There are others on the island who are twins of the survivors, but have been there 23 years longer.

There is a book Roussau wrote 16 years ago in 1988 when he came up with the theory.

    Highlight it.

^Well that sounds crazy, yet in the same way it sounds very very believable
  • JBruckner%s's Photo
that doesn't make sense as they have not met their twins?

i don't want the show spoiled, really.

I second that; the show would be nothing without it's constant cliffhangers and guessing games.

by the way, just saw the season two opener. what a shocker.
  • Nic%s's Photo

that doesn't make sense as they have not met their twins?

NO SHIT SHERLOCK. PERHAPS THAT HAPPENS IN LATER EPISODES?

    Jesus... thought you were clever.

i am shamed. i just don't see the show going that way. i don't really see any point in all these out of this world ideas about the show, just let it happen etc etc.

    dunno.
    sorry nic!

From what I understand now, that theory is probably a hoax. No one can seem to find any info on the internet to back up the writings of this Roussau, so the whole idea was probably created by a Lost fan to make everyone excited. But, if it is true, which if the author's evidence isn't fabricated, it probabily is, it also might explain the monsters and polar bears, based on the probability of something very unlikely happening (think improbability drive). "The Other Tiger" by Arthur C. Clarke is a very short story that explained the idea of a monster suddenly appearing in an otherwise normal world when it shouldn't even exist, based on the idea that somewhere in an infinite number of universes, it has to happen.

Just saw yesterdays, my first episodes of Lost that I've actually seen, amazing show.

Anybody have any clues as to why Desmond is on the island? :X
  • yeshli2nuts%s's Photo
    a recap of tonights episode.....(SPOILER)

blah blah blah blah blah blah michael and sawyer find jin and "the others" on an (possibly the same) island.

what a waste of an hour. it was 57 minutes of nothing with 30 seconds of excitement. well maybe not nothing, i mean it did bring up TONS more questions that probably wont be answered untill weeks, months, or years from now. answers i want are; who is "him" that desmond was refering to? what did those flipping numbers that was counting down from 2 minutes and went back up to 108 have to do with? what if locke didnt put in hurley's numbers in before the time ran out, what would have happened? why couldnt jack press the button again? its so frustrating because its such a good show but all these damn questions are pissing me off.

and another thing, who else thinks that desmond is the crazy guy from hurley's mental hospital?
  • HPRenegade150%s's Photo
    ^The 108 is all 6 numbers added up. 4 8 15 16 23 42
  • inVersed%s's Photo
It's a crazy idea but I thought this....

What if the numbers executed by locke revealed the physical form of the "Others"

I recall from 1st season that the only we ever knew about the others were their whispers, perhaps what locke did was release them from just their whispering form into there physical.

I also recall from episode 2.1 when walt appeared to shannon he said the words that were something like "Don't push the button, the numbers bad" (only in reverse) perhaps he was warning them not to push the execute button to release the others.

Also, if anyone saw the previews for next week was the women that michael met in the pit that asked him "Are you from flight 815" or something the same women that jack talked to about the seats on the plane?

I just watched last nights episode a second time..........better than the first time I saw it.........I am so glad that they are really delving into a mystery here....as opposed to just "exploring" an island...a la Gilligan.

I am anxiously awaiting the next episode...which I'll miss as I'll be out of the country.
