General Chat / Nintendo Reveals Revolution Controller

I'll be the first admit that I'm a Nintendo fan, having bought all 4 major consoles and the GBA SP. And this does look revolutionary to me, unfortunitly, with any new ideas, this has to many 'what if's' for my likeing.

You have to stand a certain distance from the screen, because of its 'depth perception' ability. So can I not play from my bed across the room? Or from my recliner in the corner? Do I always have to play from the exact same spot in my room?

And what about multiplayer, two or three or X many people cant stand in the 'exact' right position, we have to be spread out across the room, wont that throw off the depth perception, and angles and what not on the screen?

And finally...how tired is my arm going to be, if I have to hold this remote up to the screen throughout the entire game? I have to stop flippin through the channels on my TV around 65 and take a little breather...do they really expect me to hold this thing up for a few hours to catch a virtual fish?

To many what ifs, but we'll just have to wait and see.

I just realized also, that while you could use your free hand to have a cold drink while gaming, you could also use your free hand for...well you know, if you're one of those freaks who gets off on cyber video game chicks.

And if this thing rumbles like most controllers...uh.

Haha what if you could use it to bang virtual chicks like a dildo.

    :0 :0 :0 :0

    My apologies.

N64 controller wasn't so bad for golden eye, fuck, that game rocked.

Yeah, but what other games was that thing good for? It's only good feature IMO was the Z-button being right where a gun trigger would be.

I see the concept behind it, and whilst I do think it's a marvelous idea, they dont seem to have utilized it quite right, and therefore looks awkward to use...
  • Atlus%s's Photo
    That's sick.
    It looks awesome.
  • inVersed%s's Photo
Eh im not liking the looks of the controllers. They look difficult, i also dont like how they look like the are controlled by one hand... imma stick with my X360 and PS3.
  • Atlus%s's Photo
Anyway does anybody know how much this thing is going to cost?
  • RMM%s's Photo
Well it aint nearly as new tech or as powerful as 360 or PS3 and they said itd be a family affordable, and quiet console. So I'm guessing $200 to $250. No higher than $250 for sure. But they games will fall off and no1 will want something new. They dont wanna take the chance of losing $300+ on new things that they aint sure is gonna take off. I dont think it will anyway. Nintendo is makin too many mistakes.

Nintendo is makin too many mistakes.

If by "mistakes" you mean "pushing the boundries of gaming and not making shitty 'look, I'm a juiced up badass who shoots everything' games", then yeah, they're making mistakes.

    ^Indeed

Nintendo has always had the best variety and originality when it comes to games.
Plus im loving the price tag on the system.

Yea I like how they come up wit new things but people aint payin that much no more for stuff like that. And the GC already lost because of game sales... the Revolution is new so wat makes u think they'll get more games. It really depends if people pay $250 for a new thing. I know I won't. I would surely rather pay $300 for an Xbox that I know will succeed.
  • tracidEdge%s's Photo
if they still have that ability to download old nes and snes games, there's no way in hell i can't buy that.

i also hope they'll still have a regular controller, because i doubt i'd ever get used to one of those.

That was so dumb. Are you at ALL aware that Nintendo not only made enormouse profit this generation, but was the ONLY console to make any profit at all.

Dont even bother to express an opinion like that.

GameCube? The hardware sold bad. Mainly cuz no online play and all that. But what I was tryin to say it that I just can't see this controller and revolution thing catchin on. It wont be a revolution at least.
  • penguinBOB%s's Photo
lol, you're missing the revolution point of the controller--the motion sensor doo hickey--not the popularity. also, if you could, learn some grammar, please; it would make us take your arguments more seriously.

Problem is, is they have no shoot 'em games at all. Lots of good party games, but who likes playing Super Smash and Mario Kart by yourself time after time?

    FPS games are grossly overrated.

    FPS games are grossly overrated.

Whether that is or is not true...

They sell consoles, something all the Mario Karts in the world won't do.
  • Atlus%s's Photo
Nintendo aren't as innovative as they think. In terms of hardware, yes, but they really need some new ideas for games.
  • Blitz%s's Photo
the motion thing is brilliant, I'll grant that. Now fps, rts, etc. can be played on a console like on a pc, and then still have the same mechanism work for classic games by turning the thing on it's side.

It's an "all in one" thing, that's all. Not a bad idea at all.

I usually pick on nintendo because of exclusivity bullshit, and because in every generation, they avoid my thirst for piracy! (PS2 or XBOX + harddrive = all the game you ever wanted for free if you just put them on the HD or just burn them from PC... yay for CD images!).

I'm usually pretty cool with this "console" BS because I can just sidestep it to spite them for their greediness and corporate smugness.

Not the case with nintendo :( so they get the brunt of my angst on the subject.

I won't buy this, but it IS pretty spiffy. The only thing I'd say is that the controller should be more ergonomic (sp?) for the classic setup (like, grab stubs jutting out the bottom to the left).
