The refs were clearly for the Steelers, I mean in their back pokets you could see terrible towels hanging out -

Am I the only person out there that actually thought Ben got the ball in the endzone on the TD. I'm so sure the ball crossed then when the Seahawk made contact it came loose and ended up under Ben at which point he shuffled it back over the goal line. It was very close, but even as a Seahawks fan, I think it was the right call. The pass interference is another matter. The first holding call seemed correct to me (I was away from the TV for the second one tho) also and the refs did reverse the fumble by Hasselback correctly as well. I actually think that for 80% of the game the Seahawks were the better team, but in the other 20% they killed themselves with mistakes at the worst possible times, whereas Pittsburgh lived on the big play which was enough to win. Not a well played Superbowl...but I was happy for Bettis.
EDIT: I did forget about the brutal roughing call on Hasselback's tackle after the interception. So I guess if the second holding call was really bogus that is three big calls that either took points away from Seattle or helped lead to Pittsburgh points. Could've been the difference right there. Maybe I should be pissed at the reffing! -

We're not here to discuss the halftime show, champ.God, that halftime show sucked balls.
Anyway. I personally just don't believe the Seahawks played well enough to win that. They just looked happy to be there, because they were a mess. Too many blown opportunities. In fact, there was little urgency from either side. It was like just another game. Not the Super Bowl. Maybe next year will be better when the Pats get back in it. -

psh that coverage was leaning towards the steelers also. all the commentary was about bettis / steelers. oh well i didnt like these teams either. -

Toon, I totally agree with you on the call concerning Hasselback's tackle, and the interference call on what should have been D-Jacks TD in the end zone. They were both clearly screw-ups by the refs.
Why is it that refs play worse the more important the game is? Are they nervous or something?Edited by ride_exchanger, 06 February 2006 - 05:10 PM.

Yeah, the ball crossed over part of the line as he was in midair, which is a touchdown.Am I the only person out there that actually thought Ben got the ball in the endzone on the TD.
I think the refs made good calls throughout the whole game, except for offensive pass interference call on the Seahawks. Given that TD wouldn't have made a difference though. -

Hey, if you saw the way they blew the 2 minute drill--TWICE, you basically lose any sympathy toward Seattle for losing. -

That play created some maddness in my house. My Dad just got back from Las Vegas and had placed a $10 bet on him scoreing the games first TD at 18 to 1 odds. He thought he missed the goalline on the replay so it was like watching a really fast bipolor person as he went crazy, got pissed off, then went crazy again -

Speaking of the Packers, its looking more and more like Brett will retire this year (still unofficial, however). That's sad, because he's a legend in Green Bay. Based on how he played this year, its like he's lost his edge though, and with that said, I'd be surprised if the Packers even win six or seven games next season. There is hope though. It looks like Ahman Green will stay. And I think Aaron Rodgers has major potential. Plus, Mike McCarthy brings something new to the table. Still though, he's definitely got his work cut out for him there in Green Bay. We'll see I guess. Despite their mediocre season, I've actually become quite fond of Green Bay and I will definitely be watching their games next year.
Oh, and we all knew Pittsburgh was going all the way when they beat Denver. -

Personally, I wont believe Farve is retiring until he says "Im retireing", then sits out the whole year, THEN doesnt come back the following year (doesnt pull a "Jordan"). I wont miss him once hes gone either. -

Favre's a great guy and a hell of a QB (though I didn't think so the year the Pack beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl...way to dash an 8-year-old's hopes and dreams, Brett ) but I think it would be for the best if he hung it up. There is no shame in calling it a career, especially when you've had a career like his.
