Communication is overrated - seclusion is the new revolution.

yes. my friends get service in my house. EVERYWHERE in my house. Crystal fucking clear.

I have to leave my PLACE OF LIVING to check voice mail.

Good choice on the Razor! That is one kickass phone! :yup: My friend just picked one up, and it's the sweetest phone I've ever seen. The camera and the screen on it is amazing, too.

I never lose service on my cingular. It held up on a 5 hour stretch of empty west texas driving without losing service.

It just depends on what state you're in really, if you look at their 'service coverage map' or w/e, it looks like someone spilt paint on the map, its so random where they do and dont offer the service.

Ooh! Story time! Well, sort of. This just something on a related note.
Anyway. I went away last week to Cape Cod, just outside Hyannis, and brought my phone along for emergencies and shit because otherwise I couldn't care less. But so, I went outside of my house there, and no service on my phone (I'm on Verizon). But my friend follows me, and he gets a signal (he's on Cingular). Same situation happened on the Rail Trail bike route, only I got service and he didn't.
So! I figure it like this. Verizon gets good service when you're in the middle of nowhere, Cingular doesn't, and vice versa.

Of course, this was just one time and I don't know about phones anyway.
The razor phone though, looks pretty fucking badass, J.

I can't see a goddamn thing on that map.
After a little investigating, though, I found a PDF of a coverage map on the Cingular map. Sure enough, there's a tiny little corner of Massachusetts next to the Rhode Island border without coverage...you can only see it at 800% magnification, however. This little pocket is slightly west of my town, it appears. There are numerous other tiny little dots of no service, as well. Seems like nothing except that those little dots may well include your home.

EDIT: I can't tell if I'd get service with Nextel because the town name is over my house. Dammit. T-Mobile has by far the best coverage map, but also the most ridiculous coverage. It goes from "Great" to "None" in the span of 2 miles. What the hell.

My mum has a razr.. I'm not a huge fan of them, but I generally don't like Motorolas. Their interface is very annoying to use, and extremely slow (especially when you try to open your "my pictures," folder if you have a few files in there.. Takes forever. On the v525 (I think?), it took my friends about 1 minute to open the folder, with about 100 photos in there. My mum's razr, it still takes like 10 seconds to open her pics folder, with just about 10 pics in it..

The razr has a very strange and annoying keypad. It looks good, but doesn't work so well. I suppose you'd get used to it, but would still make the odd mistake. It's not a nice keypad. Also, although they are VERY thin, they are extremely broad, and don't sit quite right in a pocket. They're more suited to being carried in a woman's bag, or a suit jacket's pocket.. They're just too square and flat to be comfortably carried in a jean pocket. The front screen is useless too.

Also, the razr doesn't even have that good specs. I'd go for something with a megapixel camera, and MP3 player.

If you've had a motorola before and like it, you'll prolly like the razr. If not, you probably won't. Motorola has a very annoying menu system.
Go for a Samsung instead. They are much nicer to use.

The e720, e730 are both good (if they're out in the states).
I have a z500 (not availabale in america i think), and it's great. My last phone was a Samsung too (e310), and I'd never buy a moto in future... I'd honestly look for a Sammy ever time.

I agree with Blitz and Jelly. Don't get near Cingular...

My plan ends in December and I'll be jumping ship to either Verizon or Nextel, most likely Nextel. Nextel is not much better, but it's the only way for me to get my parents to upgrade my absolute piece of shit Nokia brick phone. Yes, I have the old school kind. :@ I throw it against brick walls and it still works...

Anyways, I had AT&T until they merged with Cingular. Believe it or not, my reception got about 7x worse. I've had bad experiences with Cingular in the past as my mom constantly had to deal with reception problems when she had Cingular a couple of years ago. I can't even open my freaking voicemail. The reception is terrible. Absolutely awful. Whenever a friend of mine calls me, I get "hi", and from there on in, it's totally static. It doesn't matter where you are, Cingular is consistently crappy. Even if I have all 5 bars, I lose calls all the time. Really, Cingular has been a total nightmare for me. :(

ipark, i use a phone for talking and texting, not for taking pictures (that's what a camera is for!), nor for listening to music (that's what an iPod is for!). i've tried out the keypad on the razr and while i didn't get it right at first i am sure it will come with practise.

thanks for the comments on the phones and service guys.

    my dream phone:

    always has bars. always.
built in mp3player, with huge huge storage.
Lasts for days off fullcharge, if not completely self sustainable.
    an OS. (HAHAHAHA!)
    fast intarwebness. sign'd.
    calender, messaging, picture/movie taking, etc.
    small as a raz0r.

phone of teh future!!1! Look for it in the year 2058!!

You know what's the best phone I ever had, though. The big one I bought from 7-Eleven. Carrier was Tracfone, that prepaid one where you buy the cards. The phone itself, I forget what model it was, but it was fuckin huge. I could hit someone over the head and knock them out with it. It was great for mugging people. And, it got better service than Cingular.

Well, have it your way. I was just pointing out some of its faults, but it seems you're pretty set on it. I would still never buy one because of the clumsy and painfully slow menu system they have. I really think the keypad would be annoying if you were using it all the time too..

And I just like to have everything (camera, mp3..) in one thing I carry about with me anyway, instead of having 3 seperate things you'd have to trawl about.

btw.. why is america so slow at getting new phone models? You're like the last place in the world to get all the new models, and you usually don't even get a lot of them.. What's that about?
  • Jellybones%s's Photo
There is no sensible reason why someone should have to practice using a fucking keypad.
