How is that overpriced?? That system is more powerful than alot of computers on the market today for a fraction of the price.
Not to mention consoles (as a recent trend) have been sold for a slight loss which  is why games are so expensive.

So they're really quite inexpensive. Besides, PS3 will probably cost $450+

I don't think that argument's really justified...can Xbox do Photoshop? Can Xbox do web design? Can Xbox run Microsoft Office? A computer does alot more than a videogames console, and that's a fact, and you're comparison in terms of price to a computer is therefore flawed...

    No, you're wrong.
These systems aren't priced on their software capabilities, they're priced according to their hardware. If you go out and buy the latest ATI or nVidia video cards, you'll be shelling out $400, $500+... The hardware that is coming with XBox360 and PS3 are superior to what you would find on the market today for computers. The price to buy these systems seems only fair to me...

^there's truth in both actually. An XBOX really can't do the things what a computer is meant for. XBOX, PS3 and Revolutions are game machines and that's it, whatever will tell you it remains a games computer. Lot of people said that PC Games would die because of console and this claim started around that the first PS appeared. However you can't make games without a PC and game developers are most likely PC Gamers.
Back to the point: the reason that you can sell consoles relatively cheap is because of the following: one system, fixed hardware, mass production. There's nothing much customisable hardware-wise + it isn't upgradeable in the future.
If you buy a computer than you pay more, but you also get more.

I'll be getting an Xbox 360.

To start with, the specs of the consoles.

Ok, yes, PS3 does have better specs but since when has that really been an issue? Xbox has better specs that both ps3 and gamecube, yet you can hardly notice a difference between the 3 graphically (in that if a game is released on all consoles, for example Soul Calibur 2, the graphics etc. are almost identical) The only thing that I have really noticed a change in was loading times which were marginally better on Xbox. Anyway, what I'm saying is that I doubt there will be any noticable difference in graphics or performance despite PS3 being more powerful etc than Xbox, considering both consoles are going to be immensly powerful either way. Probably even less difference than there was between X, ps2 and GC. I think the screens Chris posted were evidence of that with the PS2 and 360 graphics both looking astounding.

Games wise. Halo 3 is reason alone to buy an Xbox 360 in my book. Halo 2 continues to be the best multiplayer game I have ever played whilst Halo 1 has the best single player I have ever played (probably joint with GTA San Andreas which I have on Xbox) On that note, PS3 does have Rockstar on their side which means a new GTA game (does it? Is there any news of this in the works? I know they are working on that Cowboy game for GC or something) But if the past is anything to go by, the game should be released on the 360 a few months afterwards. Obviously, still an advantage for PS3 owners. One blatant advantage of PS2 was the final fantasy series...however, Square have signed a deal with Xbox 360 meaning FF XI and more titles will be on the 360. I guess that the games will also be on PS2, but who knows, they may make exclusive games for each console depending on it's strength (ie. Crystal Chronicles was on GC due to the GBA link capabilities. Square may take more advantage of Xbox's online advantage, because (and there is little arguement here) Xbox Live is the best for online console play) That leads me to an advantage of the 360...online. Yes, PS3, like PS2 will have online capabilities, but Xbox has proved the king of online play and I can easily see that continuing to 360.

At the end of the day, it's a matter of personal taste. To me PS2 doesn't have such an amazing line up of games as others say. Final Fantasy X and X-2 (which was apparently a disapointment) GTA (which I have on Xbox) and Pro Evolution Soccer 5 (which I also have on Xbox) are the only ones that really really appeal to me. That doesn't go to say that there aren't other PS2 games I would go out and buy if I had a PS2. Xbox to me has a much better line up of games. I also have a gamecube which has a few gems (Zelda anyone?), but no way near the amount that appeal to me as Xbox. It also needs to be kept in mind that the PS2 has been out longer than the Xbox.

Anyway, I am 99% sure I will be purchasing an Xbox 360, but probably not on it's release as I will be at Uni in great amounts of debt. Probably when there's the first price drop or the release of an amazing game that I can't do without.

Can't be bothered to proof read, sorry for errors.

Why is it sad? Computers aren't used primarily for games, gaming consoles are. It only makes sense that consoles are more popular for gaming.

because computers will always have better hardware than consoles. consoles are only great for the first year they come out then they are outdated.
