To make sure to have something to offer the more casual gamer, Microsoft has also decided to offer the Core Edition Xbox 360 that will retail for $299, which is £209.99 in the UK and €299.99 throughout the rest of Europe. This more streamlined version will include the Xbox 360 console, a wired controller, the default “chill” (white) faceplate and a standard AV cable. Clearly, the Core Edition is designed for the more casual gamer who doesn’t care about high-definition gaming or just doesn’t yet have an HDTV to take advantage of.

- Xbox 360 console. As with the premium edition, three powerful core processors pump out 720p/1080i output, 16x9 cinematic aspect ratio, anti-aliasing for smooth textures, full surround sound and DVD playback right out of the box.
- Xbox 360 Controller. This wired controller features an extended nine-foot cable and a comfortable, enhanced ergonomic design.
- Xbox 360 Faceplate. Like no other console before, the Xbox 360 console allows customization and a removable Faceplate that comes in stylish “chill” (white), which can be swapped out with other custom Faceplates to reflect gamers’ personalities or decor.
- Xbox 360 Standard AV Cable. This connects gamers to the world of Xbox 360, delivering great next-generation graphics and games using standard-definition connections.

I'll be getting the Premium Edition. It's well worth the extra one-hundred dollars and is a steal. The Core Edition plus the peripherals and such would set you back into over $500.00. So, what do you guys think of the price(s) and if you're interested, what package will you get?

Hooray for over-priced, two-version (same shitty games) consoles!!

It's a smart move to release two different "versions" of the system right from the get-go.
Although I'm not sure I'll be willing to shell out $300, let alone $400. I wish there was some more middle ground, as in, the core system with wired controller but also with Live for around $325, but oh well.

I'm definately going to have to wait for a price drop. Somewhere around the $200 range is a bit more do-able on my end.
• RMM%s's Photo
Thats too... your a moron if ya buy the $299 one. But then again... $400 dollar system + $60 game + $40 warrenty + $50 dollar controller + tax. Thats fukin $589.88 for just the basics.

Just one game too...

how exciting, drew.
i might get the revolution; only because a new smash brothers might be released.
• inVersed%s's Photo
Meh, quite expensive but I am going to have to get this... I I am really impressed by how some of these games are looking so far such as condemned, quake IV, prey, and NBA Live 06... the prices are quite ridiculous. Does the basic come with Xbox live or do i need to buy all the adapters and shit seperately?

I've read that you have XBOX Live right out of the box, but only a Silver Subscription plan... It doesn't allow you to play on-line though, unlike a Gold Subscription plan.
• Titan%s's Photo
However, if you already have a subscription, it will become a Gold subscription. (YAY ME!)

But really, 400 bucks is a lot of dough... Now I'm actually thinking about keeping my Xbox. All I do is play Halo 2 and maybe 1 or 2 other games on it anyway...

And I thought both come with Live Silver... The $400 one just comes with all the cables and stuff, the other one comes just like the original xbox, but with the ability to play 360 games. :p

revelotion and playstation 3 for me.

FUCK xbox!
• Tech Artist%s's Photo
I'm going to get the Core packege. It would be easier to save myself $100 now and get the aminites over time. Plus, a wireless controller I won't need because I already have one(Nyko Airflo wireless Xbox controller).
Will Xbox 360 be backwards compatiable with Xbox 1 controllers like mine?
• tyandor%s's Photo
sheesh if you need that harddrive it costs $100!?!?!?!?? For that money I can buy a 160 GB one for my PC!!!!
added to my list of reasons why I hate Microsoft.
• Atlus%s's Photo
I think personally games consoles and their games are overpriced...if you buy a console that expensive, it's gonna cost you a load more over time anyway, having to shell out £40 per game is very expensive...
• Raven-SDI%s's Photo

revelotion and playstation 3 for me.

FUCK xbox!

Hello.

^^^Amen to that brother.

How is that overpriced?? That system is more powerful than alot of computers on the market today for a fraction of the price.
Not to mention consoles (as a recent trend) have been sold for a slight loss which is why games are so expensive.

So they're really quite inexpensive. Besides, PS3 will probably cost $450+

I don't think that argument's really justified...can Xbox do Photoshop? Can Xbox do web design? Can Xbox run Microsoft Office? A computer does alot more than a videogames console, and that's a fact, and you're comparison in terms of price to a computer is therefore flawed...

Furthermore, what games will XBox really be great for? Halo 3?

The reason Sony's been dominating the console wars is because they've got the deals with all the video game marketers, and their games rock. Nintendo's been falling behind a bit for the same reason... a lot of games you can get on the Playstation you can't get on Nintendo. Plus Nintendo still sort of caters to the kiddie crowd, I think. Not that they don't have games for adults, but perception, ya know?

Anyway, if I had to choose, I'd go PS 3 or Revolution anyway.

And yeah, another Super Smash would prolly seal the deal.
• Atlus%s's Photo
If they made a Zelda game for release on the Revolution I guess I'd have no choice but to buy one...
• artist%s's Photo
reason for me to choose revelotion and ps3

revelotion
zelda
mario
metroid prime 3
smash bros
mario kart
new mario party game

ps3
killzone 2
metal gear solid 4
new grand theft auto
FINAL FANTASY (best games ever)

see both them consoles have so much better games than the xbox, not saying that those games will be on those consoles but its very likely they will be. what xbox has is halo and imo metroid prime kicks the fuck out of halo anyways. so there.
• RMM%s's Photo
Well the PS3 will cost at least $400 alone. So add a $100 hard drive and its already way more. The Xbox 360 is cheaper so I dont understand what your waiting for the ps3 for.
