*plots to get mantis, kevin and nate to go to UM to counter USC/Cork getting  Fatha'* :w00t:

Good luck with that, mantis lives in Britain lol.

Over on this side of the pond, I have conditional offers from -

Bath University (ABB - A in biology)
    Loughborough University (BBB)
University of the West of England, Bristol (CCC)
University of Wales, Institute Cardiff (BB)
    London South Bank University (DD)
    London Metropolitan University (DD)

I have replied to UCAS, and Bath is my firm choice, with Loughborough as my insurance.

    I hope I get at least 3 B's...

    SIGH! micool SIGH!!!

I'm enrolled at the University of Amsterdam, not that it really matters that much here in Holland. Generally, every college here is up to whatever standards you all have for your colleges. Funny thing is, all of you talk about colleges, and then totally seem to forget what you want to specialize in. Though i've heard the studies abroad are much broader themselves. I'm studying something like that myself, at the moment, which goes by the name of 'Béta-Gamma Bachelor.' It kind of sucks really, but i sort of do everything, in a really short timespan. And being the chaotic, lazy person that i am... well you get where i'm getting at :D. Actually though, the purpose (for me atleast, even though we're supposed to have chosen BGB because of a broad, overall interest in science, blabla bullshit) of the study is to actually find out what i want to do, as i chose a specialization (which most students chose the first year) in the second year. After another half year of getting about every subject from sociology to physics, then i'll finally get to what i'm going to chose. Which right now, i think, will be mathematics, to then go on with the master 'stochastics and financial mathematics.' Or i might chose econometrics, or something totally different entirely. (I even play around with the idea, still, to fuck Béta-Gamma all together and do architecture, which isn't at the UvA, but in Delft (or Eindhoven/Twente) which is a technical university. I really have a problem chosing and that's why i set my choice back a year. (without losing one) But really, what are you guys specializing in? (seems to me, like a much more suitable topic for discussion.)

My plans are to major in Mechanical Engineering and minor in Civil Engineering. I'll get my Bachelors in those, then I'll go on to Grad School to get my Masters of Science in Building Technology. Then I'll go on to get my Ph.D.

I'm actually thinking about doing a semester at Cambridge sometime during my school term, probably my junior year, since MIT seems to have a strong connection with that school (as well as a few others)

i'm only a soph, but i'm looking at some schools in florida.

    Massachusetts Institute of Technology
    University of Illinois
    Illinois Institute of Technology
    University of Missouri

Im definately going to MIT. Campus Preview Weekend was the best. I dont see myself going anywhere else.
    Go Beavers!

    You got into MIT??? I f***ing hate you!!!!! :@ :@ :@ :@ :@ :@ :@

    Congrats
  • Junya Boy%s's Photo
    Thank you! :yup:
did you apply there Cork? or is it one of those "you didn't apply, you just wanted to go there but never did the application." type of ordeals?

I was actually surprised i got in, but thank heavens. I just got back from visiting on sunday evening, after four days of exploring campus life, and i must say, its the best experience i have ever had. i love it there. though the classes are a bit rigorous, i can hang with it.

I got rejected three years ago. :'(

Is there a Cambridge University in the U.S. or am I missing something...?
  • Junya Boy%s's Photo
    ah. sorry man.

it would of been one hell of an experience.

there is always grad school though.....

@REspawn, i dont think there is one in the U.S., but there is study abroad where you can go overseas and stuff for school, and the Cambridge in England has a connection with MIT which is located in Cambridge, MA which is in the area called the New England area of the U.S.

Don't get your hopes up on UM steve. Its a privet school, and not a state school so its harder to get in. Unless your really smart and rich then you'll get in, or ....meh I dubt your an amazing football player :p

Well I'm only a junior but I am likely going to a two year college. After that I will apply to, UCLA (Go Bruins!!!), Embry Riddle, Arizona State, Williams, Georgia Tech, Lewis & Clark, and various other ones. I am not sure those are schools I will definetly apply to. I still have to make sure they meet some of my requirements for technology such as unmonitored and uncapped internet access in the room. Also it must be near an airport of reasonable size so I can go plane spotting. Pretty much I am very open to other college options and I will figure it all out when I need to.

college is way too much fun to be only 2 years long. i honestly hope you re-think that decision.
  • skyvanman%s's Photo
I know, it is a two year college that is sort of like a community college in that you can then transfer after two years (though it only offers 2 years) the college that I am talking about is Landmark college in vermont. It is for people who have ADHD which I have an extreme case of (though it doesn't usually show on forums)
  • RCTyrant%s's Photo
University of Missouri at Rolla for Mechanical Engineering.

Already racking up the scholarship money, and since its a state school, a lot cheaper too. Great education though, one of the top engineering schools in the midwest, and a 98% job placement rate :yup:

You fare better than Kumba...

I should ban you for that.... :p

So I went to a college fair yesterday and here are the primary schools I'm looking at:

    Emerson College (Boston, MA)
    Boston University (Boston, MA)
University of Maine at Farmington (Farmington, ME)
    University of Vermont (Burlington, VT)
    Lyndon State College (Sherburne, VT)
Middlebury College (Middlebury, VT) (not like I'll ever get into this place but its good to dream)

For the schools outside of Boston, my top priority is proximity to ski areas. Farmington is 35 mins from Sugarloaf and an hour from Sunday River. UVM is 45 minutes from Stowe, Sugarbush, Mad River Glen, and Smugglers Notch. Lyndon is just down the road from the Burke and about 45 mins from Jay Peak (and the Canadian border). I have my priorities all screwed up but oh well.
