RCT Discussion / RCT on Linux?

I'm considering using GNU/Linux in the future. I don't suppose RCT will work on it?

(I have checked the requirements, but I'm hoping they may have left out Linux since so much more people use Windows)

Nope it won't work on Linux. I tried to run it using WINE (which can run some Windows programs) but it didn't work. I havent tried it using the new Knoppix, I tried using 3.6, the newest one is 3.8 (I have two CD-Rom drives so I can use a live cd and have a seperate cd in my other drive at the same time). It would be very hard to install RCT or RCT2 on Linux anyways because of how it does everything and though WINE is good, it is not a replacement for Windows. Linux is Linux and it has its own upsides and its own downsides. It can't play RCT unless you want to run something that lets you run two OS's at the same time with one operating in a window of another, but I am not sure that would even make it work and it would still require you to buy Windows. I have decided to use Windows for everyday use, Linux for fun sometimes and for performing system maintenance when Windows have dll problems in the core dll's. It is a pretty big change from Windows to Linux because there are very many differences, my friend is a System Administrator and he tried to switch to Linux but still had to keep a Windows box so he could do work on the servers and do other Windows only tasks. If I were you I would try Linux by downloading a LiveCD distribution and trying it out. My favorites are Knoppix (by far), and I also use Damn Small Linux (a compressed version of Knoppix), and Ubuntu.

Thanks for the feedback. I've ordered a LiveCD from Ubuntu awhile ago, just waiting for it to arrive.
I'll have to see what I can figure out as to playing RCT while also using Linux somehow.

So, I've been doing some digging, and have found that if you have your computers original display drivers, or can successfully download the open source versions, it IS possible to run RCT2 on Linux. I've been trying to get it to work, but I lost my display drivers in a partitioning accident, and therefore can't run it (yet). You will have to use the Wine emulator with a plugin called PlayOnLinux, which allows you to install and run RCT2 (Sorry LL fans). Again, I haven't gotten it working yet, but it is theoretically possible and highly likely that it will work on anyone else's system, and they have on their development website RCT2 as an officially supported game.
