My four years in England is almost up and I found out I'll be stationed in Germany.... Ramstein AB to be exact. I move there in September, right before Oktoberfest. Fuck yeah.
For those in Germany that don't know, Ramstein is near Kaiserslautern.
Now what I wanted was some advice on the area. What to do. What are the good theme parks. Etc. -

Are the ones I've heard of.

Dammit, someone must have deleted my post or something, I swear I already said this in here.
Anyways, Europa Park was probably the best theme park I've been to. A very good combination of fun coasters and extensive theming. Kind of like Epcot crossed with some place with unusual (but good) coasters. Actually, a lot of it is very similar to Disneyland. -

yeah those are the best parks.- Europa Park
- Holiday Park
- Movie World Germany
Are the ones I've heard of.
though you forgot the Heide.
together with your list those are the 4 best parks in gemany, but don't expect too much from those parks. -

yeah, europa park is a poor disney copy. it's quite a big park with a lot of things where nothing really gets the wow-factor out of you. i'm not really into this park.
holiday park is a place where you must go, because of egf, which is an absolutely amazing ride. truly. also their freefall tower is intense as hell. i don't know why. it's just intense and makes me fucking nervous. every first time on it when visiting the park.
heide park, a bit far from where i live so i've only been there twice. it's okay, i guess. apparently they have the tallest gyro drop, worldwide, i believe. it's quite fun, but modern, meaning, uh, soft.
you should keep an eye on "phantasialand". they have a very nice minetrain called "colorado adventure" and are building a bm ground invert, nemesis-style, for season 2006, called "black mamba". i'm very much interested in it.
also, germany is, netherlands also, the leading country when it comes to fairgrounds. we have all kinds of flashy flatrides that you will see nowhere else in the world. you might know those which are too old for traveling because they are sold to either american or russian parks, where the technical inspections are low. in germany they are with the strictest worldwide. -

Yeah, Phantasialand is worth a visit, I've only been once, but I really enjoyed it there. Mystery Castle is quite a ride.
I had no idea they were building a nemesis style invert though. I have to see that. -

and it sucks. most boring woody i've ever been on.colossos, biggest wooden coaster in the world!!!
heide park goes for the records only. biggest wooden coaster, highest gyro drop, that sort of shit. they even planned a coaster higher than millenium force once, but it was prohibited by the local nature conservancy because it's hill would be seen from all over the region. ah well. -

Magnus listed the best 4 parks.
Heide Park
Europa Park
Movie Park Germany
Holiday Park
but Phantasialand is also good.
Nice athmosphere and a B&M Inverter for 2006
@Posix: Der Heide Park wollte auch nen Aqua Trax bauen. Haben die auch net gemacht. Die schlafen voll ein. Und ich geb dir Recht, Colossos ist wirklich kein toller Coaster (vom fahren her)
Also a good new ride is Torre del Mar at the Hansa Park.

So...we talked about the "big" parks, so I can tell you something about the "secrets":
1. Tripsdrill
This is a different park. It's only a family park with two familiy-coasters, but it's very unique. You want get thrilled like in other parks but it is a nice park.
2. Hansa Park
Right next to the sea, in the whole park you smell the sea-air. The most important coaster is Nessie and old Schwarkopf-Loopingcoaster. This year opens Torre del Mar, a really big wave-swinger.
3. Skyline Park
Umm....here's the prototype of the X-Coaster, a looping-coaster without Shoulder resitants, but it's only the prototype, look at the pictures on rcdb.com and you'll see what I mean. But there's is also a sky-shot and it's for free.
4. Fort Fun / Panorama Park
Both parks look similar, both parks are in the mountains. They've a really nice landscape, but are rather small.
In Fort Fun will open two new rides this year, one of them is a world premier (Eagle's Flight) and the Panorama Park has a very unique waterride.
If you want to hear more about the smaler park, let me know it.

colossos is really the most boring woody i know. even wild wild west (movie park germany)- that ride got a new name i think - is better.
colossos isn't really high and somewhat boring. it was fun the first time i rode it, cause it was very foggy that morning and you could see maybe 10 meters or even less.
the first airtimehills is pretty ok, but then it really gets boring as hell.
expedition geforce seems to be the only good coaster in germany up to date. -

In german I would say: Fehler....Riesenfehler!expedition geforce seems to be the only good coaster in germany up to date.
It's true that Expedition GeForce (EGF) is a very good coaster, but it's not the only one in Germany:
Nessie: As I said before, the oldest Loopingcoaster in Germany
Klotticoaster: A strange name, but a great ride
Gesengte Sau: The same thing as the coaster above
Colorado Adventure: Best family coaster in Germany
Eurosat: A very good indoor coaster
Winjas (Fear & Force) Two big spinning-coaster with special effects
Also I would mention Colossos and Silver Star they aren't perfekt, but still good rides. -

I only know Europa-Park and Holiday Park, and out of these two, I like Europa a lot more. The only things that makes HP worth to visit is the log flume and Expedition GeForce. It's a very good mega(or hyper?)coaster with an awesome first drop. I'd suggest to go front row to get the best out of the ride.
Europapark, however, is a very nice, fully-themed park with a lot of cool rides. The areas are themed to countries of Europe, and they created a beautiful atmosphere. The coasters are decent, nothing too big with the exception of Silverstar. They have a fantastic themed watercoaster called "Poseidon", an inside coaster named EuroSAT, a wonderful small bobsledcoaster and Euro-Mir, a coaster with rotating gondolas. SilverStar is a B&M-hyper, I like it a lot but have nothing to compare it with.
The main attraction in the park is the theming, though. Greece, Switzerland and Scandinavia are just stunning.

Actually, did you hear about the AF C-130 that crashed in Albania Thursday night? That plane actually belonged to my flight here in Mildenhall where I'm stationed and it's one of the Talon II's I worked on. I even flew on this aircraft before. All nine crew members that died are people I knew. It's been a hard couple of days at my work. Here's the article from cbs news:Don't crash any planes
http://www.google.co...s...y?id=632556
Here is the only pic I could find of the plane:
And CNN's story:

Back to the original topic..... I knew some about the four main parks there. I looked these up at rcdb.com but I'm not sure where they are located. Anyone know how far each is from Kaiserslautern and what major cities are near?
I have been to Germany twice before, briefly over night. I'm very much looking forward to moving over there in a few months. I've enjoyed England a lot, but the cost of living and exchange rate kills me. -

I like Phantasialand the best...not for the rides, but I really dug the atmosphere. Expedition G Force is insane on the first drop if you ride in the back......nearly ejector airtime...crazy shit.
The Euro Mir is a trippy coaster, and may have the longest lift hill (in terms of how LONG it takes to get to the top of it), the mirrored "buildings" are bizarre (in a good way).
Have fun over there. My sister in law lives in Nurnberg, and I usually get over there once a year.
Great country.
