This is what always happens in a competition like this. There will always be controversy, disagreements, etc, etc... There's no way a judge can objectively score something in RCT. It's going to be based on their personal preferences. This isn't the real Olympics you know... -

Well, given that the ALL athletes feel they ALL worked their asses off... there's no way to please everyone is there? There can only be 3 medal winners. That doesn't mean those who didn't win a medal didn't work their asses off. There were a lot of nice entries that didn't win. But there can only be 3 medal winners. So someone's gonna lose. And someone's always gonna be unhappy. That's the nature of a competition.
If you don't realize that before you even begin work on your entry, then you shouldn't enter in the first place.
And Iris, do you seriously think it's the judges responsibility to hunt all over the web looking for objects, when the athlete could have simply exported the objects that were part of THEIR entry? Come on now... really? Now I KNOW you thought that through before you typed it, right? It's the (volunteer) judges responsibility to hunt down hundreds of objects, many of which may no longer be available for download anywhere?? That's what you're saying, right? Right...
I guess it's always gonna be the judges' faults, then.
We've tried to be amicable toward all the athletes and do the best with the mess we were handed, but (and forgive me if this offends you) this is just beginning to sound like a bunch of children on the playground who didn't get their way.
Thanks to those who have been supportive and provided constructive criticism. -

He never said "just" ride6.there were alot of other people that worked their asses off for this competition. ride6 was not the only.
And I agree with Coasterforce.
I think the rule is dumb actually. If the judges are so trustworthy, why can't they see the name? They aren't supposed to be biased anyways. Oh, well. It is done with.
I wish you lots of luck with the competition next year. -

My hat goes off to MidwestboyinLA, who stepped in at the last minute to actually salvage the contest, judge entries, and make last minute decisions. Without him, the whole thing would've fallen apart. I personally spent several hours on my entries and, at this point, I'm just glad they were released as originally intended...
If anything, this all can be used as learning lesson for the next RCT Olympics.....if that will ever happen... -

Holy shit there was more than one?!I couldn't open either of the RCT1 parks. One of them is that I didn't have access to the scenario. Sorry guys, I had to install RCT1 just for this so I didn't have access to anything other than a clean install. The other one I got an error saying the file contained invalid data. Don't know if a trainer was used or not, don't care. If I can't open a park for any reason, I can't judge it.

And it is not the judges fault if they couldnt open a file. Come on people, get real!! You think that they should take all their free time to go HUNTING for objects when the creator should have check the export object thingy?? That is just not reality.
You all need to get off you high fucking horses. Your parkmakers are good (I admit) but there are a great deal of other excellant parkmakers out there dont come here.
Okay. I could have responded in an immature way just like yourself, but I choose to take the more moral response. It's not the judges fault they couldn't open a file. Agreed, but ride6 said somewhere (I donno here or somewhere else) that he checked this box. It just just disqualified because his name was revealed. If you're gonna respond to someone's post and bitch about New Element, then you need to respond to what they said, and I never mentioend the custom objects. That's a whole different matter in itself. But even that, to go hunting for objects, it takes time, but I hate to say it, but I think it's the least the judges can do after all of the time the CREATORS spent making their park.
I find it funny how you mention judges with taking their free time. Judges and creators both have free time, and they both have lives. So if the creators are taking hours upon hours of their free time, why can't the judges spend an hour or two hunting down objects? At least make the effort. If a judge were to come out honestly and say, "You know what, I was missing this object, and I looked for it, but couldn't find it." If a judge were to say that, I would be perfectly satisfied. But for them to go out and say basically, "We're not hunting down for any objects, period." That's just ridiculous, in my opinion. After all the time parkmakers spend, they can't hunt down for an object or two? Chances are they have more time on their hands than the parkmakers do. Whether that be true or not, the creators deserve more than a reply ESSENTIALLY saying, "We won't make ANY effort whatsoever to ensure your park works." And I know, it's not easy, but it's what you do after the parkmakers spend hours of their lives into it.
We need to get off our fucking horses? Are you serious? New Element members in general aren't afraid to voice our opinion, and many people hate us just for that. Well why do you even want feedback then? And if you're gonna insult New Element, at least intelligently back up your reasoning rather than just throwing it out there and responding to someone's post in an irrelevant way.
But believe me, I have the highest respect for the judges and MWBILA, but I was just frustrated, that's all. But hey, congrats to the winners and hope we can learn from what happened. -

As for ride6 being DQ'ed because his name was on the entry, it was one of the rules for the entry to be anonymous. I'm not the one that DQ'ed him, I scored his entry as I did with all the others that I could open. I think that I can be fair and impartial whether I know who created the entry or not. Whether any of the other judges can do that or not, I have no idea, nor will I speculate any further on that.... The fact that his entry was disqualified because it had his name in it, after all of that work, I'm sorry, but that's just wrong. You could have always ignored it, and judged objectively. Or give him some recognition of some sort.
I also disagree with a lot of the judging. I just don't get how, for the unthemed coasters for example, Titan's coaster, which put forth the most effort with landscaping, etc. lost to a completely bare coaster that apparently was designed in 2 minutes it looks?
Maybe I'm overreacting. But I just am quite frustrated with this, even though I myself wasn't involved in it. Many thanks to MW Boy in LA, etc. for getting this thing finished though.
Can't answer for the other judges about how they scored the tracks. Personally, I scored Titan's entry as the highest RCT2 coaster. I have no idea why I liked the two RCT3 tracks better. So I scored Ridge Runner third. And yes, the two RCT3 coasters needed some work to make them even better.
CF, believe me when I say I can understand your frustration about this fiasco. All the judges felt exactly the same thing about this too. I know that I asked, in early March, when we could begin judging the entries. OJ's response was that he had 20+ files to download, rename and then upload on only dialup. I can understand the issues with downloading and uploading, but the rest of it shouldn't have been a problem. As far as I can tell, most of the entries were in well before the deadlines. I have no idea why he didn't begin posting them when he received them.
Whether the Olympic Committee, which really needs to be formed NOW, decides to ban OJ is totally up to them. I agree that his organization on this was lacking. But, like a lot of you here, he is just a kid. He doesn't have complete control over everything in his life. Yes, he made some bad decisions during this, but I can forgive him for this particular transgression. If anything, this "Olympic Commitee" should ban OJ from the Olympics. I mean come on. He made the damn thing and can't even finish it. Even if the inevitable comes up, he should have a back-up plan. He needs to apologize to all of the athletes for his shit organization.
And yes, MidwestBoyinLA did a lot of work to get this finished. He put his own projects on hold to get this done so that it would be taken seriously.
chapel_, that would mean that you would be limited to only those objects that are available in that bench. It could include quite a bit of stuff that some of you wouldn't dare load on your PC. Is that what you would actually want? I don't think that someone's creativity should be limited to what someone else thinks should be included in a particular creation.
And yes, I think that I could be more organized than OJ was. I wouldn't mind being the coordinator for the next one. But at this point in time, I don't know if I would have the time to do it properly. My job looks like I will be making a lot of business trips around this time next year which would restrict my ability to do it right. -

I have to disagree with you on this CF. The entries should have been presented in a manner that would allow the judges to open the park, in this case, ready to be judged. For all I know, I could have been hunting down 100 objects. But it could have been just the one I was missing too. I have no idea. You're more than welcome to try to do that over a weekend when you have other obligations to attend to as well as peruse the 69 other files that the judges had to review during a short time frame.I find it funny how you mention judges with taking their free time. Judges and creators both have free time, and they both have lives. So if the creators are taking hours upon hours of their free time, why can't the judges spend an hour or two hunting down objects? I did try to open the two parks that were 'missing' objects after I opened everything else. Unfortunately, none of the other parks had either of the two objects I knew were missing. As it is, by opening all of these park files, I 'downloaded' about 2000 objects that weren't already in my objdata folder. Half of these I probably have absolutely no use for. I may actually want about 2/3 of the other half. And yes, all of the files were park files, including the unthemed coaster entries. I think that needs to change for the next Olympics. -

Bullshit. Thats like turning in a exam to your professor without your name on it and expecting the professor to figure out who's it is. I'm getting tired of everyone here blaming the judges for this. The athletes had just as much responsibility as the judges. And how someone could spend countless hours making their entries and then turn it in without objects is beyond me, but certainly a big enough mistake to constitute a D/Q imo...So if the creators are taking hours upon hours of their free time, why can't the judges spend an hour or two hunting down objects?

Two things: The Judges should NOT have to hunt down objects. Honestly, if you worked that hard and didn't export your objects, that's pretty dumb. It's Entry Submission 101. Everyone around here ought to know that.
HOWEVER, if the judges can't open it because an entry is unexported, can't they just ask the person to resubmit? Chances are that it's not just a ploy to buy time.
I realize that most of this was OJ's fault for fucking everything off. So don't yelling too seriously. But at the same time, giving lame excuses (not all of them were, but some did come out badly) doesn't help anyone's cause, let alone yours. -

as for being dq'd because of revealing your name...didn't that happen in H2H3? If it was a rule, it was a rule...sorry Ride6. I also don't expect people to hunt down the scenery objects so don't object to that causing dq either. It can be next to impossible to find a missing scenery object. My only problem was in how the LL entries were apparantly treated and the fact that I think RCT3 seemed to have too much of an influence on the judges. To me the RCT3 entries were vastly overrated. -

Ohh, okay then. I appreciate your honesty and effort. As long as you made the effort, well, what can you do. Like I said, I have only the highest respect for the judges and everyone involved.
Thanks for clearing that up. -

Well, I guess I got lucky for not putting my name on Discovery Cove...
It's a habit... I always do it. That's why El Cabiero was d/qed I guess.
But I can only fault myself for not seeing that rule. I just didn't realize it. But I think the judges did the best they could to get things squared away. I personally don't see the need for a judge to hunt down objects, although maybe mention exporting in the rules next time...
But as far as I can tell, the judges did the best they could to work this out.
My only suggestion would be next time separate out RCT 1,2,3. There's too much of a bias... I don't care how impartial a judge may be. They all have a different unique look. -

Well well where to begin.
First of all to Ron Starr, who has stayed pretty much respectable through all this. I think you made a lot of mistakes judging, and I don't think you should have been asked frankly (due to your lack of LL expertise), but that's neither here nor there...I can't blame you for accepting since you did their site a service by doing so.
Now...to the matters at hand.
The anonymity rule. First of all, nobody said that ride6 was the only one who worked his ass off, so whoever implied that I said that should just shut up to begin with. It is worth noting that ride6's park was easily one of the best (imo easily THE best) and without a doubt would have warrented a medal, being the most complete and well-rounded entry of any round in the entire "Olympics", but that's not even the point I'm trying to make. You people need to stop being all high and mighty with your 'rules are rules' bullshit. The thing is...if ride6's name was in the filename, then send it back and tell him to change it. Would that have really been so hard to do? With all the time and energy he spent on this, especially in the midst of Head2Head, probably the most time consuming event New Element has to offer, you guys couldn't take a few courteous steps to make sure his work wasn't in vain? Again, nobody said that the other contestants didn't work their asses off as well, which is makes my point for me. They all did, and they all should have been given an equal opportunity to place medals, since they all put forth the proper effort.
Now for Toon's latest point about H2H3 being anonymous, and having the makers of two separate parks being eliminated, there is a very big difference in my opinion. H2H is a publically voted, and debated poll where names and influence have a huge part to do with how things are voted. Now, I know you may be saying the Olympics aren't much different. The difference is, if someone sends me a park with the name in the file, I send it back and tell them to finish it. It's common fucking courtesy. The only times that parks were submitted were on some pretty obscure areas of the park to have names, on a banner sign and on the actual park tag (which I never look at). Whoever recieved ride6's park should have immediately talked to him and warned him...made him resend a truly anonymous version. Not vindicitively hand it off to the judges anyway knowing full well that it was going to be disqualified. Whether rules are rules, or whatever corny 'toughguy' cliche you throw my way or not, that's just simply called being an asshole or not.
Next for the custom objects problem. Never did I say that the judges should go around and hunt down these obscure objects all over the net. That'd be completely unreasonable, and I assure you that I have not been unreasonable during my entire multi-post rant here on this topic. All I was saying was, how much effort does it take to do what Corkscrewed suggested? (I thought it was pretty obvious that what Corkscrewed said was already a blatantly obvious option, but I guess not). If the person who recieved the park couldn't open it, what stopped them from responding to the e-mail, and informing the parkmaker? Like I've stressed throughout this whole course of events, the parkmakers are the ones who have spent agonizing hours working on this shit, so a little time and effort the other way would be nice. I really don't know why MidwestBoyInLA didn't understand that's what I meant...it's kinda right in the open. You think I've made it this far, owning the best (call me arrogant) RCT site out there, and running dozens of highly complicated, creative contests, without JUDGING EVERYONE OF THEM? My God. You know how many times I've gotten the "unable to open the park" error? And I assure you that with running this site added onto my personal life, there is no way you could have been any busier then I am, yet I still make it a point to always make sure that the person gets the park in correctly. After all, a courteous e-mail takes what, all of 10 seconds?
The funny thing is...I don't see how we look like children who didn't get our way. We won the most medals of any site. It's not like we're complaining after a loss, which would make us look like spoiled losers. We were the biggest winners of the entire contest (congrats to RCT2.com who also did nicely). So if the WINNERS of the contest are calling for a foul, maybe it's time you shut the hell up and listen. -

Iris, I don't think the anonimity rule was necessarily fair, but apparently it was a rule. If it was stated, then the parkmakers have to suck up their dq's. Hell, given how this whole contest has played out, I wouldn't doubt that half the parkmakers had no idea it was ever a rule in which case I'm with you. That said, when I was reading through the rules for the various contests, I was shocked at how utterly stupid many of them were. 6 scenery groups? so 1 tree, 1 garden, one tt block, one roof...you get the picture. But if the same 6 objects were all in the misc tab you're dq'd. 16 wall types or whatever that stupid rule was? That should have set off the alarm bells that this contest had no identity right there. To those who tried to save the credibility of this thing, you probably feel like you wasted your time right now, but good effort at least. I think it's time to just put this idea to bed and get on with everything. To those who didn't place or were dq'd let's quit complaining and release those parks so we can all take a look at them. -

the only one that had access to the EMAILS is Hawk. He retrived the files from the EMAILS and changed the names so the judges wouldnt know whos they were. The judges had no way of knowing except for those who broke the rule, who to email and suggest they resend their entry. And besides it would have taken the judges even longer if they did have the information to email. They would have been waiting for responses. The Judges again only had about 72 hours to judge ALL the entries. This whole thing was taking to long and people were publicly saying how frustrated they were. It needed to be done as soon as possible. I didnt see any of you stepping up and offering help. Your own judge didnt even judge. So please just stop. We have all learned from this. It was a HUGE mess when MidwestboyinLA and Hawk took it over. Everyone did the best they could. IF there is a next one I am sure things will be totally different. All suggestions at the offical forums will be taken, I am sure, into consideration. -

So let me get this straight, Ride6 got Dqed for having his name in the file name? What kind of fucking, messed up, bullshit is that? The least you could have done is sent it back telling him to change it or better yet, change it yourselves. That would have taken 2 to 5 seconds or the email would have been a minute max. It seems like Ride6 got screwed over Imo. This is the kind of problem that could make a contest fail.
Now, I'm not sure where this object thing comes in but you could have done the same thing as the anonymity issue. It would have taking the same amount of time and wouldn't have been hard at all.
For next year, before you even announce a thing, actully plan this out as Corkscrewed suggusted. The disorginization(Most of that was OJ's fault) is what caused all this confusion and problems, like what happend with Ride6, to come about. If you can't be orginized and plan out contests such as this, then you shouldn't run it.
I do applaud Hawk and MidwestBoyInLA for finishing this. -

Yeah, or send them into Design, Runner Up (if any are that big), etc.
That's always the good way to look at it.
