Alright, mantis did this in his qftb-x park, Danse Macabre.

So I need to know how he made the paths overlap the rapids like that, since there's only one row of it.
  • Kumba%s's Photo
Only a guess but maybe he did build the slop and use the beast to sink it then he used that rapids?
  • mantis%s's Photo
Phatage explainid it to me oncw...something to do wiht pausing? You build the rapids and then when you go to stack you have to pause at the right time or somethign...

Yeah it's all to do witht he pasuing. Wait till romorrow and i'll explain i better.
  • Evil WME%s's Photo
the reason why it works is that rct doesn't notice a path is missing from the other path (so to speak)
    "
*in this particular example, have the paths built normally, and don't put the rapids in just yet
    *then start special build mode
*build the diagonal path where the rapids goes afterwards
*stack scenery (i think that's what it's called..)
    *end special build mode
    *delete the raised path
    *add the rapids

    so basically, what Kumba 'said.'

I don't get what you're saying, WME. Once you delete the paths, it won't look like the path is going onto the rapids. If you want to explain it to me, my AIM sn is tracidEdge065.

    Thanks again.

I'm still not sure how to do this...

You don't even need any hacking device at all ?!

Tracid - for once i'm not wankered and i'll have a go at explaining it once i've tried it in LL again. You can't do it how WME said because you can't build the rapids there once the path is there, because the land is in the way.

Or you could just ask Phatage, who explained it to me in the first place.

Or you could just leave it without the paths leading into the stairs cos most people don't notice those things anyway.

    -------

    Okies here it is:

    1. Build the path on the two levels on either side of where you want the steps.
    2. Build path onto the middle square from either side and sink it (obviously not at same time).
    3. Now you have the path leading onto that middle square at the two levels.
    4. End special build.
    5. Build rapids in line with the path but several height marks higher.
5a. Do this so that the steps are vertically in line with where you want them (ready to be set-to-base-height).
    6. Delete the rapids over the square where you want the steps.
    7. Start special build
    8. Build the steps over that square where you want them (several height marks higher)
    9. PAUSE IMMEDIATELY.
    10. If the thing flashes over the next square, try again.
10a. If it flashes over the next square, when you go to set base height the path will disappear too.
    11. Set base height to 4x the level you want it.
    12. End special build.
    13. Restore clearances.

If that's not clear enough i'll take some screenshots too.

Thanks mantis. I'll give it a shot in a little bit and we'll see how it goes.
  • tracidEdge%s's Photo
OK I tried it, but I guess I'm not doing it right.

When I set scenery base height, the paths come back up to the top, and the rapids aren't even as far down as they are supposed to be. I think maybe I'm using the wrong thing.
Because when I tried it, I built the rapids, and paused before it flashed over to the next piece. Then I did "Set Scenery Base Height" in the Execute special build mode list. But it didn't go down four spaces, so I'm thinking I used the wrong feature.
I dunno, any more help would be greatly appreciated.

come on tracid, it isn't that hard to do :p (sorry, couldn't resist)

    build a 2x1 path.
    enable special build mode.
    make it a 2x2 path.
    stack scenery.
    end special build mode.
    remove stacked paths.
    attach your rapids.
  • tracidEdge%s's Photo
Yeah that didn't work either. oh well, fuck it. It's not that important.
  • mantis%s's Photo
I'm under the impression that you can't do it by inserting the rapids after you've done the paths, because the land is in the way!

You have to use the land modification settings in conjunction with set base height - that's the whole point of set base height. You work out what height mark you want it at, multiply that number by 4 and set that in the 'land modifications' menu. Then you set base height and the object moves to that height mark.

Remember to end special build mode after you've done the paths, otherwise they are affected by the set base height too (and during special build mode only build the rapids over the square where the steps will be, because anything you build will affect the squares you build over, including anything underneath or on top of whatever it is you're building).

You just need to get more familiar with how the beast works, I think. If you still can't work it out, you could send it to someone and they can do it for you.
  • tracidEdge%s's Photo
oh ok. I think I wasn't ending special build mode after I made the paths. I'll try it again later.

Didn't realize the description I gave was already given... I should probably read before I post next time.
