First of all, Ed, I agree 100% with what you said. It is a very tough thing to do, and in the other 2 versions, it wasn't really done as well as it can be in RCT3.You captured my thoughts exactly. Sometimes people can be so stuck in one perspective that they can't appreciate the beauty of something from another perspective. I never thought the ride itself was amazing...I just thought the effort and timing of effects were superb.
But coasterfrk... People aren't really putting this down, but pointing out a few things that can be improved. I think they enjoyed this as much as you and I did, but are also critiquing it so that any future projects can be completely perfect.
This video demonstrated perfect timing in all aspects. The fireworks mixed in very well with the music, and even at some parts, the coaster layout worked with the music, especially in the Beauty and the Beast part. This was also some amazing video editing in making the various parts of the track work together, and the visual effects on it were great. Some of the scenery lacked in areas, but he did well in compensating with the track and music changes.
I watched the video with surround sound through my headphones that I use to play FPS games, so it was even more enjoyable in that I could hear explosions where they should be relative to where I was sitting. That made the 3D effect much more believable.
JMainAZ did a wonderful job in creating this video, which definitly deserves to be called a masterpiece. -

The perspective was great, the ride itself is what left a lot to be desired. For me anyway.Sometimes people can be so stuck in one perspective that they can't appreciate the beauty of something from another perspective.
And re-reading the rest of the replies, it seems as if everyone might agree with me. No one said anything about the coaster being good, it was just that amazing video that has everyone wowed. Therefore, is it really fair to deem this a great RCT accomplishment? IMO it was a great video, and that is all. Consider if you took the ride out of the movie and looked at it from a regular perspective. Even keeping all the pyrotechnics in, would it really be anything special? It seems to me that the new and unique RCT3 game engine is all that makes this special. That and the timing/music/film skills, which for the most part have absolutly nothing to do with the skills required in RCT. -

Ahhh but its art.
FOr me this thing was incredible. IMO RCT aint all about coasters its about creating something someone can be drawn into. And i dont think ive ever seen anything pull this off as well as that video.... Ok he used skills you wouldnt usually assosiate with RCT but this makes his achivement no less incredible. Especially as it looks like he achived exactly what he set out to do. It probably wouldnt look great in game with no music but thats not the point really. He has managed to produce a true work of art with some amazing ideas. ok the coaster left a little to be desired but nobodys perfect.
Still... wow... that scene with the pirate battle was awesome. -

No it's not just the game engine. I agree the coaster parts weren't really very good, but the way it interacted with the theming in certain parts was fantastic. Like that sea battle. Now that was fun. Especially when the water splashes in front of you right before it accelerates. That was like Pirates of the Carribean right there. And then the whole bit around the volcano and how it built up tension. Actually I didn't think the moviemaking skills were that great. The part where it built up tension towards the end was pretty good, and the coaster rebuilding itself at the end was great storytelling. That got an appreciative laugh out of me. But if you look at the video you can see parts where they dissolved between shots to make it look like a continuous ride, but it actually isn't. So the coaster we saw only exists in the video, not in the game itself. That's a new way of making a coaster, but it makes sense. The video is the end product, not the park. And I think maybe that's why RCT3 hasn't really taken off here at NE, the home of the parkmakers. It's a new way of playing the game. Personally, I'm excited about what RCT3 can do cause I think we're due for a fresh perspective. And since storytelling is where I've been trying to go with my parks anyway, this is right up my alley. -

YESS!!! I noticed that too!!! w00t! My camera eye is improving!Actually I didn't think the moviemaking skills were that great. Anyway, Butter, you're spot on on the coaster. It's flat out horrible. The dark ride parts are pretty cool. The coaster part would kill you worse than a stand-up, floorless, wooden Togo coaster made in America and maintained by Six Flags. Still, I appreciate good effort, and I'm a huge Fantasmic fan, so I overall enjoyed it. -

But the bad coaster made all the difference for me, as it prevented me from enjoying the video. I found nothing remotely interesting about the ride, except the fantastic idea, which was all he really had going for him.
Clearly no one else has had this problem appreciating it though, so whatever.
I would have to agree with you, Gutterflower, about RCT not being all about rides. I have built many things completely unrelated to coasters myself, most of which have never seen the light of day. This idea however, was a coaster. A coaster presented in a way different than we are used to, but still a coaster.
I see what you are saying though. -

I understand where the negative views are coming from, but I guess my motives behind posting this wasn't just to show you what this guy made, but what is possible with this game. I mean if something that amateurish can look good imagine what an experienced parkmaker around here can do. Look at the title of this thread POTENTIAL OF RCT3!. I mean this ride could just be the tip of the iceburg, if you get what I'm saying. -
