It's just the end of the 04-05 season for the moment. Unless management and the players come to some sort of agreement, there may not be an 05-06 season start. Until the NHL limits the number of teams to a reasonable, and manageable, number, their going to have problems with money. With the players willing to take a 24% pay cut, at least for this season, there should have been a start to the season. But the owners wanted more, like a salary cap. I agree with the owners that a salary cap is necessary, not just in hockey, but in all professional sports.

Since I'm not a hockey fan, this is no great loss to me. But to those of you that are fans, I can understand the sense of loss you may be feeling. But if you really notice, there's not much of an uproar regarding the loss of the season.

On ESPN they had a poll of wether or not people cared if the NHL season was cancelled.

After 8,000 votes it was 32% Yes, 68% No.

That's cuz the NHL has really lost marketing in the US over the past decade or so. Ever since they brought Gary Bennet in, it's gone downhill.

So it's a double whammy... the owners have been largely responsible for getting into this rut and they're also responsible for the general public not caring.
