LOS ANGELES -- Vladimir Guerrero was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a partial dislocation of his left shoulder.
X-rays taken at Anaheim Memorial Hospital and an exam by team doctor Lewis Yocum confirmed the initial diagnosis. Guerrero sustained the injury while sliding headfirst into home in Friday's 9-0 win over the Dodgers.
Guerrero's arm was placed in a sling to immobilize it, and he will have an MRI next week, either Monday or Tuesday, to assess the severity of the injury. Yocum said he wants the area to calm down before proceeding with the test, but added the two-week window while Guerrero is on the DL should provide clarity to the issue.
"The shoulder did not come out of the socket, but because of the inherent risk of this, we decided not to take any chances," Yocum said of placing the 2004 American League MVP on the DL.
Guerrero had a similar injury about five years ago while playing in Montreal, which Yocum said gives him greater concern. But he is unable to determine a course of treatment, including the possibility of surgery and length of down time, without the MRI.
The Angels called up outfielder Curtis Pride from Triple-A Salt Lake and moved right-handed reliever Bret Prinz from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL to make room on the 40-man roster for Pride.
Guerrero was waved home by third-base coach Ron Roenicke on Steve Finley's two-out double Friday, but as the Dodgers executed a perfect relay, he tried to avoid the tag of catcher Jason Phillips and jammed his left hand and shoulder into home plate.
Yocum said the injury had already subsided as Guerrero was being attended to in the trainer's room of the visitors' clubhouse at Dodger Stadium, but even a partial dislocation can produce further injury to the surrounding area.
"It is less traumatic than a full dislocation is to the soft tissue," Yocum said. "Any time there is an injury like this there is some concern, but that is why we're being cautious."

Thank god Bobby Crosby and Nick Swisher are almost back. Now if we could get our closer, setup man, and ace back too we'd be in real good shape. It's starting to look like things may be coming together for the A's. Dan Johnson continues to tear up AAA pitching like he's done for the past 2 years and will probably be called up to play 1B soon. Which is a good thing because Scott Hatteburg's defense has apparently gone the way of the dodo. Not that it was great to begin with. The big guns on the team are finally starting to hit like they're supposed to. Well, most of them anyway. Kendall still hasn't looked too good. But Bobby Kielty is finally hitting which is a pleasant surprise. Most A's fans had written off that Kielty-Lilly trade last year when Ted Lilly was in the All-Star game and Bobby Kielty was hiding on the A's bench somewhere. It looks like their fortunes have been reversed, for a time.
There's some speculation that an Oakland-Kansas City trade may be in the works because a top A's prospect was just promoted from high A to AAA for a series in Omaha. Apparently the folks in KC like to evaluate prospects up close before they trade for them. Or it may just be a coincidence as the A's are exeriencing injuries all up and down their farm system. There's been speculation about Mike Sweeny coming to the A's since opening day. Could it be coming true? That would certainly be a big step out of low payroll territory.
As for the Angels, I feel sorry for Vlad. He's a ballplayer, he should be out there playing. I certainly don't feel sorry for the Angels though. If you lose Bartolo Colon and Scott Shields too then you'll be close to experiencing the bad luck the A's have experienced so far. It'll be interesting to see where these teams sit in the standings in a month. Things are a changin'.
Oh and the injury bug has hit me too. I twisted my ankle, it swelled up like a grapefruit, and now I'm hopping around on one leg. Damn unlucky. It'll be a while before I can play basketball again which really sucks because it's nice and sunny outside. Well, it should be sunny for awhile at least. -

http://sports.espn.g...tory?id=2075744• Livan Hernandez threw 150 pitches Friday, the most for any major-league pitcher since Sept. 29, 2000, when the Reds' Ron Villone threw 150 pitches in a complete-game win at St. Louis. The previous high in a game this year was 136 pitches by Carlos Zambrano (May 8.).
150 PITCHES?!?!?!

So what do you all think of the White Sox/Twins race? The Sox sure look strong right now but they sure have a history of poor second halves. The Twins are more consistent but will it be enough?
And that 150 pitches is amazing. Not only from the Livan's perspective but also that the manager would leave him in that long. I've seen managers pull pitchers after only 80 pitches to get the closer in 9th. -

theyre both looking really good, the white sox more so than the twins. as much as id like to see the white sox make the playoffs, cuz im a huge fan of buerhle, i really dont think theyre gonna make it to the end of the season. theyre game right now is pitching, theyre gonna get worked. the twins on the other side have made the playoffs consistantly, and their roster hasnt changed too much since last season, theyre a sure bet for the al central. and sorry for the white sox but the al wild card is gonna be from the east this year again. So what do you all think of the White Sox/Twins race?

meanwhile, the Yankees are the strongest team in the league...
...because they're holding up everyone else. -

everybody in the al east is amazing, except the drays, they suck balls. as much as it pains me to admit it, im pretty sure that the yanks will win the east again, and the orioles will get the wild card this year.
SOX IN '06
EDIT: TRONTO SUCKS AS WELL -

Toronto didn't look all that 'amazing' dropping 3 of 4 to Oakland. Especially that 12-4 game. -

Well, the Astros are continuing to play like shit.
They did win last night though. Funny because Clemens didn't pitch a great game and we finally score some runs for him. -

haha yea, i cant believe the astros actually won. its such a rarity nowadays. too bad for clemens that he never gets run support. -

Any interesting interleague series coming up? I know the Twins play the Dodgers later this week in a rematch of the '65 World Series. First time the teams have met in a meaningful game since then. -
