Sox looked together tonight. Arroyo pitched wonderfully (to trade him would be a travesty), and Schilling got a save and hit 93 or 94 on the radar gun (hooray!).
Granted, it was the D-Rays, but still.
Also, Manny hit another homer.
Manny Ramirez may very well be my favorite person in the whole world. -

Yeah well that was our worst starter. And your guys really only had the one good inning. NCan't believe they've fought back to get into first place. But they beat the Rangers, so that helps us.
Hey Ed... nice game. Angels 5 - A's 2.
Now you're getting Harden & Zito so we'll see who ends up taking the series.
You win this round. Now for the rubber match. -

With Zito on the mound, I think we've got a good shot. Do you know why they call it a rubber match? I've been wondering that. -

Wow. Tonight's A's-Texas game had a phenomenal ending. The A's were up 11-10 in the bottom of the ninth with a runner on third, two outs, and Soriano batting. Kendall (the A's catcher) had already had to block one pitch in the dirt when another one got away from him. The runner from third took off for home and Kendall dove headfirst to block his slide with his glove (and bare hand) and tag him out at the plate. Game over. Nice. -

I saw that. I was like, HELL YEAH. That was a ballsy play on Kendall's part. Varitek-esque, I'd say. -

Resident Angels fans (not that you have anything to do with the following but still):
This whole "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" thing is pissing me off. I see the Yankees playing LAA on ESPN's line thing and I'm thinking, "Dodgers? The hell?" Seriously. So dumb. It's like if the Red Sox moved to Providence, but still called themselves the Boston Red Sox, this whole Anaheim/LA thing. -

Here ya go:
The whole LA Angels thing annoys me too. And so does the fact that ESPN still has the Giants listed as SFO in all their boxscores and this is, what, 95 games into the season now?! You'd think somebody would eventually fix that. -

You're pissed? It's the Angels fans who are the most upset. This "LA Angels of Anaheim" crap is absolutely ridiculous, and true Angels fans will still call the team the Anaheim Angels (or California Angels for the older fans). So I'm with ya... Arte Moreno's done a lot of great things, but this move was pretty stupid.Resident Angels fans (not that you have anything to do with the following but still):

Hey, did anyone see that unbelievable play in the Pittsburg game? Batter hits it up the middle, Pirates SS drives and catches the ball, then in the same fluid motion FLICKS THE BALL WITH HIS GLOVE to the 2B who immediately rifles it to first for a most unusual but most amazing 6-4-3 single put-out.
Go to www.mlb.com before tomorrow's video highlights are put up and watch the recap thingy. That is one of the most amazing plays I've ever seem... particularly because the ball never stopped. It was all one gorgeous motion.
Wow!
Also, take a wild guess (without looking) at what ROGER CLEMENS' road ERA is...?
0.31
That's unheard of. That means if you're playing against Clemens and you're at home (meaning he's away), it'll take you 30 innings to score just one run against him. Geez. -

Sortof reminds me of this play from last year:
(April 15th)
Oh and check "Scutaro's Spinning Play" from August 27th too, which is even more impressive I think -

Last night was probably the single best night for Web Gems we've had in a long time.
Vizquel and the other guy on the Giants did almost the same thing, that 6-4-3 putout thing. It was amazing. -

Whoa, Scutaro's got great hands! And yeah, I remember those plays... but watching them again is still amazing.Sortof reminds me of this play from last year:

On the subject of the A's....
Stupid! Athletics! Why! Won't! You! Lose???
Altho I'm enjoying the Angels owning the Yankees so far this season. -

I'd say the same about the Angels, but I can't complain about a sweep of the Yankees. Especially since we just passed them in the wild card race. You guys can win tomorrow, but after that, how about you lose some games for us okay? -
Jellybones Offline
On behalf of Red Sox Nation, I'd like to thank the Angels--be they from Los Angeles, Anaheim, California, Disneyland, wherever it is--for kicking the Yankees' lilly asses and allowing us to open up a lead.
also, Orlando Cabrera is STILL the man. We should've never got rid of him. Great guy, that OC. -

After sweeping a four game series in Texas, the A's will end the day tied for the lead in the wildcard race (whether the Yanks win or not). The Angels have quietly lost 6 games over the A's in the division over the past month. With two months to go, the division is definately up for grabs. I'd almost rather the A's win the wild card though because that means two things: 1] Either the Yankees or Red Sox won't go to the playoffs and 2] We would probably face the Chi Sox who we've beaten 7 out of 9 games this season.

Hey, good for him. He's got a no-trade clause in his contract, it's his right to stick by it. It's just a shame this trade was announced before he approved it because now he's in an awkward situation.
