I think Good Charlotte, Avril Lavigne and Aguilera-ballads are my least favourite things. And Ronan Keating. And Barry Manilow. -

Yes yes, and you call Snow Patrol "sleepy-time music". And yet, you do love the Radiohead don't you?Keane lulls me to sleep. fucking boring.
And also...there's very little wrong with emo music when it's done properly. -

lol, green day twice. not a big fan i'm assuming.
but yeah, i swear, if i have to hear fucking boulevard of broken dreams one more time, i'm gonna pop my own eardrums with a ball-point pen.
i haven't even heard that dude ryan cabrera's music, but really, i don't have to. he's associated with ashlee simpson and he fucking styles his hair. you know what i'm talking about. fucking ryan cabrera. -

you mean 7 times...
I love the new greenday song. but having not heard much Greenday before... eh...
My taste in music seems to be the opposite to Stargazers
as for Ryan Cabrera. As the cd was produced by my fave artist i was expecting something better... 1 or 2 tracks pass. but barely -

I can't stand Bright Eyes, if only because of Conor Oberst's incredibly annoying voice. It's hard to get past that to listen to the lyrics. -

here's one I'll probably take heat for:
The Faint
really. disco is not cool nor was is it ever cool. cut it out.
it also occurred to me today that these guys don't sound all that much different than late-90s new wave-influenced alt-rock band Orgy. remember Orgy? they wore makeup and sucked miserably. The Faint is like them except more electronicy and has indie cred to back them up. pisses me off to no end.
also, the new Trail of Dead album. because it sucks a lot. what the fuck guys. their last album was fucking amazing. way to blow it. -

This topic depresses me. It depresses me because it's the same kind of intolerance going on here that is killing hundreds of people all over the world every day. Sure it seems innocent ernough to pick on "emo fags" or "corporate rock whores" or "gangsta rappers", but once you start asserting your own beliefs, and your own preferences as en excuse to belittle other people and their beliefs/likes/dislikes it goes way beyond radio music. You establish a pattern of behavior and then you start saying things like this (or at least thinking them, which may not be as bad in the Live TV era where image is all that matters, but is just as bad in reality). You stop thinking as other people as equals but as something to hate. You emphasize the differences and use them as excuses to hate.
Like the current popularity of critisizing Ashlee Simpson because she can't sing. What a fucking joke that is. If anything she should be critisized for buying into a bankrupt popular culture which says that image is everything. So what if she doesn't have a good singing voice? Some of my favorite musical artists of all time don't sing very well. But they have heart and they express themselves and that is beautiful. Someone needs to take Ashlee Simpson aside and tell her that it doesn't matter how many CDs she sells or how many endorsements she gets. That if she loves singing she shouldn't give a god damn what anyone else thinks of her voice and she sure as hell shouldn't be allowing a songwriting team and producer make her records for her. Ashlee Simpson the musician exists because we immortalize youth and image as a culture. That's what you should critisize, not the poor misguided child who eagerly laps up all the crap our culture shoves at her. That's been annoying me for awhile.
Yeah I can't stand a lot of what passes for music nowadays but it's not the (so called) artists I hate. It's the culture that produced them. Emo and rap and country and rock and whatever else - they're different sides of the same coin. All of them reflect the culture that produced them. What I hate is that the musical expression, the experimentation, the joy of producing music that was there in the past and in the best artists of today - all of that is rare in popular music and instead what you find is a lot of producers and promoters and "hip young music video directors" and managers etc. making products to line their pockets while all the real artists get pushed to the background and the popular artists are brought up living a lie in a world where people are increasingly intolerant of each other. -

I couldn't stop laughing about how much everyone hates Green Day.
But PenguinBob... putting Nirvana on your hate last? =/ -

It's the artist's choice to join that culture. The artists are the ones making the music, if they don't want to participate in the culture, then they can do their own thing without giving a fuck about what the culture wants (a la Modest Mouse) or just say fuck it and stay independent and turn down the major label's multimilliondollar deals ( a la Bright Eyes). This topic depresses me. Face the facts, Kurt Cobain was a blubering idiot.I couldn't stop laughing about how much everyone hates Green Day.
But PenguinBob... putting Nirvana on your hate last? =/
I have to agree with all you said ED, it might seem hypocritical, but whatever. It really is sad what passes as music nowadays, and all the real, from the heart, music produced because you love music stuff is all underground and will remain that way because of the god awful media and music business has skewed views. I guess when I say I hate all these bands, well I hate them because 1.) they suck and 2.) they get [undeserving] attention, mainly for stuff aside from their music, and therefore everybody knows them and are whores to them. -

Ed, I think perhaps you are taking this 'hate' slightly too literally.
Jelly - Disco kicks ass. -

Well, the reason why I don't understand hate towards Keane is because they don't prescribe to any sort of image at all - they're quite literally well brought up lads who are just playing music. Sure, as JB pointed out, you can dislike the music - but hate? Why?
I don't really hate any music, apart from 50 Cent who makes money out of being shot and drawling on about some nightclub. I mean, I don't really identify with a few genres - including R&B and a lot of rap, but it's stupid to turn that into hate or dislike. I mean, only last night I was in Bristol's most popular R&B night at the academy. The majority of the hate here comes from a lack of understanding - I mean, out of the bands listed in everyone's hate columns, how many have you guys actually listened to full albums of? Or seen in concert? So how can you possibly make a judgement to such an extreme? So perhaps Ed does have a point after all.
And yes I have listened to Arthur's music, one of my mates had a tape when we were roadtripping around unis, and I made a balanced judgement. For the record.
